Perfect doesn't happen very often. Sit'in on the porch with a cold glass of tea, watch'in the sun set while my kids grow up play'in in the yard and remembering my own childhood while I listen to Jamey sing this wonderful song...well...that's as perfect as it gets in this simple man's life
I was there that nite and it was hands down the best live performance I have ever heard. Finally some real country music writers and singers! Back to the roots of country
Jamey hit the nail on the head with this song. You could put Jamey and Eric in a room and i would listen for days! I wish his pre-album show in nashville a couple of weeks ago would have went on longer.
This is coming from a guy who prefers alternative rock...This song talks to me a lot more than any other song I've heard. It reminds me so much of my grandparents whom are now up visiting the man in the sky, both who grew up in the depression and grandpa who fought in hell in WWII.
The people who dislike this song dont have any souls!!! This is one of the best songs in a lifetime!!! This is one of my favroite songs!!! Its a great song!!!!
Couldn't agree with you more MSGTapp. It's great to here some real country music. I also love how ashton shepard sounds for the women country singers. She sounds country.
This song is awesome and so real and if you can't feel it,than you're simply just not human.Go out and get his entire album"That Lonsome Song",it's worth all the money!
if you're listening to this, well this might be a familiar story, I grew up with my father drinking more and more as the years went by, it seemed like the drunker he got the louder the music got, and shorter his fuse was. he was a truck driver only home on sundays and I remember being woke up every sunday to O'l hank jr. Conway, George Jones, etc blaring on the radio.. I'd walk out & there my old man is rolling him one, 8am in the morning and already cracked open his first beer.. He'd having me helping him clean up his old knifes and guns and he'd pick parts of those o'l songs and explain how they relate to life, and how if he could go back and do it all over again,, he'd say "if I only knew then what I know now".. and by the mid afternoon he'd be playing even sadder George Jones songs, and he'd be ripe enough for us to know to leave him alone. because this man could burst into flames in a drop of a dime..He loved my mom more than life but not more than whiskey. well needless to say him and mom devoursed after 25 years. mom went on to live a stress free happy life and dad never got over her... Anyways I say all this because hearing this song reminds me of my old man, an im sitting her pondering old memories, the combination of a broken heart, a short fuse, a shit load of whisky, and a couple bad choices.. he is still sitting in that prison today. I sure do miss him. I talk to him now and then, he always says, " well I ain't doing great, but I guess I'm getting by" and I told him, he is living proof that the The High Cost Of Living Aint Nothing Like The Cost Of Living High.
Amen my friend. A trucker for 32 now went the drinking myself but I pulled the nose up on it and am doing great. Ols school trucking is hard hard on us. Leaving your family all the time but doing what we had to. Peace my friend
i love how he adds the story to the song , it fits perfect...He could have easily recorded this song like this..such as johnny paycheck and David Allan done on several songs. Real country music.
Tim McGraw may all have fans and people who like his kind of music, and that's FINE. To each his own. The problem is that this music is represented to the "masses" as the FACE of country music. When I think of country music, I think of Waylon, Hank, Willie, Cash, Coe, Paycheck, and guys like Jamey. Not saying your music isn't valid. It's just saying most true old school country music fans don't like it, and don't want to call it COUNTRY. Label it as POP COUNTRY and we're cool.
dob, its that eric is doing that for the fans as well, i went to a songwriters showcase 2 months ago with.... josh turner, bucky covington, kelly pickler, and joe nichols. and joe just sat there, and bucky was enjoying the show from the other artists, and joe stood out bigtime. looked as if he was forced to be there. he sang well, but had no interaction with the other singers. BY THE WAY, IF YOU HAVEN'T SEEN ERIC IN CONCERT, U MUST.... WAY DIFF. THAN THIS WHERE HE HAS TO BE SEATED.
How do you categorize Taylor Swift as comercialized country. Writing every song on your first album (if im not mistaken) is a great achievement. Now i do agree with you about Jessica Simpson. Im sure she's never written a song in her life.
I'm only 29.. but.. my whole generation and under is filled with dipshits that wear sideways hats and think they are "gangsta's". as sad as it is to say .. maybe a war would have made some appreciate life a little more.. rather than taking pride in hurting others.

Sadly, It Won't happen here in the Northeast. We are stuck with commercialized country like Taylor Swift and, god forbid, Jessica Simpson.
2 people don't see in color
