I'm with you. I've been on Maschine for about 9 years. And searching for sounds is so freaking fast that doing the same in a linear environment is much slower, but I DO mix and master in either Bitwig Studio or Studio One 3. But Maschine is always my first stop.
I know the feeling. I used FL Studio for several years, on and off with the AKAI MPK49. Never sold a beat, not once. Switched to Maschine a couple of years ago, and it’s one of the best decisions I’ve made in my career. It helped me improved myself as a producer and a TH-cam creative. In my first year of using itC I’ve sold my first beat ever and it has changed my life. I love it.
Like I was saying to Owen Chaim in the comments, it’s so interesting how people are more creative with one program versus another. Definitely some hidden psychology behind it. Glad to hear it’s going well for you!
I had a similar story. I’m a boom bap junky so naturally I started with MPC. Something wasn’t clicking it just felt too hard to get certain things done so I then moved to logic, using my MPC as a controller and ditching mpc software… still didn’t feel natural. Then I saw a few rhythm roulettes featuring some of my favorite producers - 9th wonder, Ski Beats, and Havoc, and noticed they all used Maschine. Matter fact even El P from run the jewels had one. Gave it a try and everything just clicked. From day one the sounds were better, building a beat was more intuitive and chopping was easier too… haven’t looked back. Love them enough to forgive them for charging me 1400 USD for the Maschine plus which is really only a half standalone unit as you need to plug it in the wall smh.
I like both I've been using logic forever and know how to use it fairly well. Still learning Maschine, but I wish Maschine worked better with Logic instead of all the workarounds.
I use the Maschine software with my studio, mk3, and plus. I love it. Just wish I could switch within the software for waveform linear fashion. Like other DAWs
Hey there, i realy would like to have the posibility to global record my live performance/arrangement like in ableton! So every parameter change could be recognised🥰
I started out with using the Maschine MK 1 as well as the Maschine software. I currently use Maschine inside of Logic for pretty much every beat and song that I produce. I plan on sticking with my Maschine for a very long time!
I wish Native Instruments listened to the forum for users request. The community has been asking for a better, efficient, piano roll for example, Fruity Loops, Studio One have killer music theory piano roll. We have been asking it for years and every single time I keep checking for an update, they have new hardware but lack in the software department. Also automation feature needs more love, also I wish they would have a qwerty feature to allow you to play with your fingers on the keyboard. Also it would be amazing if they allowed you to create your own shortcuts for a killer workflow. Maybe one day the would improve the software update for Maschine 3.0 :\
It's high time NI just made maschine a full daw. Even a simple featured one would be fine. All that i need is to be able to switch to a linear time-line at a certain point. The ideas view is great, but once you have your foundation done working in a traditional linear daw view becomes super helpful to fine tune arrangements and drops. And trying to work with maschine and a daw is always a huge pain. I've bought all the 4 major daws and Reaper looking for good integration. They all kinda work, but not really. Problem is more in the fact that you are trying to use a sequencer within a sequencer....not to mention screen views. It's a INSPIRATION KILLER
I respect that you're recognizing what works for you and that into more focus. I got into Maschine a while later, when the MK2 was released. I can't imagine trying to write, mix and stem out production music cues. Rather than having direct access to what I'm trying to do, Maschine forces extra layers of thinking, planning and access to do what I'd simply click/drag in a DAW. That absolutely kills my process. The things that come immediately to mind are timestretching/pitchshifting/sample editing on the timeline. That's not all I do, but they are extremely important functions for my workflow. I agree Maschine allows ideas to be cemented quite quickly. But I can't flesh it out until it's in Cubase. I use Maschine VST more like a rompler than anything else. The sound design is great. But using the controller with the VST, is terrible. I've tried several tutorials and haven't found one that actually works. The closest is one by Jef Gibbons. I'm not sure he actually noticed it, but his method results in all the midi messgaes to be sent twice. You can actually hear the phasing depending on the pad settings. Oh man, and for stems? I don't even know. For your library tracks, did you have to do broadcast stems like 15/30/60sec alts?
That was very well articulated and I can understand where you’re coming from. The library I’m in did not require the broadcast stems but I can imagine it might be a little more difficult to do in Maschine depending on the track. It always fascinates me to hear how workflow varies from person to person and why they prefer DAW x over DAW y. Someone could definitely write a book on the psychology of it lol
Maschine is the way to go to get the ideas down fast. i’m a DJ so I like hands-on but not hands-on a mouse. I just got komplete 14 collectors too. I feel like that’s literally all you need.
awesome video! question how do you mix your tracks from maschine? and why not mix inside Maschine? you think it sounds better when you mix like let say Logic Pro?
im stuck in the Maschine /native instruments echo system , I love it but it lacks in other ways I also do mix and master in Logic Pro and record vocals , but I don't mix much in logic that I already didn't mix in Maschine before I exported them as stems just mostly panning and automation , all Maschine really needs now in my opinion is the Ability to record latency free vocals , smoother automation curves, and more than 2 aux channels and these are features ive heard people have been asking for many many many years .
I'm still rocking the original Machine! 😂 I am looking to buy the new MK3 soon. Machine is just amazing to work on and I feel I move and create much faster. I think it's because I don't get too caught up with the massive amounts of options in a regular DAW moving along a generic timeline. With Machine you just start banging fast!
Good move. The Maschine platform introduces minimal “friction” in the creative process and with recent updates now allows the complete process including mastering to be done. Obviously, there is still scope for improvement: Note editing on the controller remains clunky compared to an MPC, because there is no touch screen. Same goes for plug-in control where the 8 knob interface isn’t exactly user friendly. Audio recording and arranging is messy, although with clips it’s improved massively. Automation isn’t as straightforward as in ableton but again with the arrival of clips it can be done once quite easily.
About to buy into the NI ecosystem (keyboard, Maschine Mikro, Komplete 14) and I'm a Logic user. Stumped on the MK3 keyboards not having Maschine software integration. Would you go for a used MK2 to keep software versatility?
I honestly think that is the best method for me, combining both Maschine and Logic in my arsenal. Even if I start my tracks in Maschine and then open Maschine inside of Logic to bring more out of it.
@@MarkYeeDaMajor please guide me on how to do that. I’ve had the maschine mikro back in the day or years ago I should say and I could never figure out how to make a template so it can start that way every time!
I find launchpad pro nicer for melodies with more pads available at onece...but cant figure out an easy way to make sure I am playing in the same key as maachine... launchpad key only seems to be written down on the manual but not ahowing up on PC anywhere in logic
Yes that is annoying for sure. If you wanted to use Maschine inside of your DAW (for MIDI tracks) it’s best to just setup a project template in your DAW by opening Maschine as a 16 channel multi-output instrument. Otherwise if you wanted to export a finished track for mixing etc. I would just export all the individual stems at once from Maschine and then drag and drop into your DAW
Mk3 seems like an especially worthy buy atm...and we're nearly in 2023 now! I just paid £320 for mine in the UK in mint condition, barely used. The software alone is probably worth half that? NI black friday sales couldn't have come at a better time for me either- for expansions and other software. Doesn't seem like a hardware revision is anywhere near on the horizon and the mk3 not getting long in the tooth if it's basically shares so much with the newer +. Sure, it's not the +. But it's not far off it for my home based desktop needs, for about a third of the cost. Plus maschine 2 daw integration will be great if I desire to take a creation further. I'm always hooked to a desktop daw anyway. Are you guys still feeling inspired from the hands on workflow from the Mk3/ +/maschine2 universe, or is there a next big thing that you have your eyes on to replace it? Or are you using a daw, or perhaps a different live performing capable machine as first port of call for laying down your musical ideas/ creations?
Welcome!! And yes 100% I’m still loving it and feeling inspired by it. The videos that Native Instruments has put out on their channel recently have pushed me to learn how to use it even better. Check them out if you haven’t yet
I was gonna say jokingly, in 3 months you’ll find that they’re both even better when used together… but I just realized this video is 3 months old. So let us know… you working with both of them now or did I miss the mark? I say all of that… because I’m projecting based on what happened with me. Lol.
Aahhh haha yessir you called it. I actually had used it like that before but do recognize now that the two together are 🔑. I just find that when I use Maschine to program my drums inside of Logic, I always end up adding some nice flair to the track that I wouldn’t have if I didn’t open up Maschine
Maschine is still pain to finalize the song. Sketching is fast, fun and all. But to make a coherent song of of it is a hell. Same problem with Push though. The 2 workflows live versus linear are still too far from one another.
@@ColdSteppinKeys If you sketch a song say in machine and then you need to finalize the parts on its place do the correct automations see whats going on there like in say Pro tools or Repear and the like, do the mastering, not even that, just plain time corrections a arrangement then you hit a wall.
