Thanks, new to the GoPro world. Have 2 used ones a 5 Black and a 7 Black. Couldn't get the cover off the 7. This trick worked!

Thank you, you are the first to show the lifting away from the camera body. Others just show the turning motion. Lifting is the key, I was able to get a couple of fingernails under the edge, lift and turn.

My GoPro's front lens was stuck on so tight I ended up using plumber's pliers to remove it.
First, I wrapped the lens and much of the GoPro in a thick tube sock, then VERY CAREFULLY twisted the edges of the lens with the pliers while pulling outward and turning counterclockwise. The lens came unstuck in a second with no damage to the original front lens.

I took some 150 grit sandpaper to the card and thinned the edge, made it a lot easier to insert

So I'm just going to throw this out there as a suggestion for anyone having trouble with the thickness of the credit cards as I did. I was only able to bend/chip the bottom of my cards. Maybe I'm just an ape.
Try using some playing cards. You can really easily get one in on each side of the lens cover, and then you can slide another layer of cards over top of that first layer to gradually increase the pressure on the lens. Might take 2-3 layers, but the lens twists off pretty easily once you have enough cards pressuring the lens outward.

I had to do this the first time. That thing would not come off at all. It felt like the seal was stuck in there too good. After the first time it comes off easy.
