    My 4 yr old sons new favorite thing is diy videos and he's always loved Halloween so I can't wait to show him this. We haven't been able to finish it because I've been so sick but I go Wednesday to get a procedure done I've been waiting months for. Praying I get results and can be on my road to better health. I've spent the last year sick more days than not. It's been very hard but I'm getting thru it!

    How long does it take to clean up all the white Styrofoam shavings? I imagine it's the kind of thing that never fully goes away.

    • @IsaacAlexanderDIY
      @IsaacAlexanderDIY  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The cleanup wasn’t difficult, just tedious. It helps when you’re working in an environment where you have tarp or physical barrier that creates a “pool” for all the shavings. To make it easier, I used a shop vac with a wide attachment to pick up the smaller pieces which greatly aided in the cleanup process. The larger pieces were reused for several other Halloween projects that will drop in the coming weeks.

    WOW Another outstanding project. You really are an artist and a craftsman. I've learned a lot from you. I do have a silly question-in your carving, did you ever reach the interior foam blocks? I wonder if a hollow cube would work-just make each of the six faces and stick them together or use a larger cardboard box as the center to stick the foam blocks to. If it worked you could get away with fewer blocks, one would just have to be careful in the carving. Or, deliberately carve the features deep so it did go through and light the interior. If it was planned ahead the interior could be painted before the faces were assembled and would only need a little touch-up.
    You just gave me a great idea-I'm going to make a hollow box of the 2" foam sheets and use Great Stuff to build out the pumpkin since I don't have blocks available to me.

    • @IsaacAlexanderDIY
      @IsaacAlexanderDIY  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Diane, this is actually an amazing idea that you have given me. Originally, I did not hollow out the center because it would’ve been too much carving and so much mess. But making a box from 1 inch or 2 inch insulation foam board would be perfect to save blocks and allow one to have a hollow interior ! I might actually do this next year, so thank you for this.

It happens, i still have built many things of yours, and my lighted pvc Christmas yard drew people with cameras, i did 6 sizes and 5 of each size, and lots of different whole and multiple colors. Did you ever consider putting LED strips in the eyes, nose, and mouth and covering them with shaped frosted plexiglass to distribute the light? You could carve out a groove inside the perimeter of those cavities for the LEDs to be nestled in and hidden from immediate view as well as to avoid hotspots from where you see the light from the LEDs concentrated and a hole in the foam to wire them through instead of using the spotlight.

    • @IsaacAlexanderDIY

      Oooo i like this idea a lot!

    • @lightseraphim6816
      @lightseraphim6816 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@IsaacAlexanderDIY A few ideas I had were flickering amber LED strips/ropes to emulate the flames or the color changing ones for more variety (the one with the remote control, make sure you don't hide the IR receiver). And possibly paint the carved cavities with reflective paint to maximize the light output since black would dull some of that illumination. If you do this, I would be really excited to see this.

      Another idea you might like...I use solar flicker lights I got from Family Dollar. I use them in my lanterns to save on batteries. And they're just as bright. Put them anywhere where there is sunlight to charge up during the day. I replaced the stock batteries with ones built for solar lights from Menards. Higher capacity so they last awhile through the night. Because I only use them one month out of the year, they last awhile.

      Unfortunately that’s the case with a lot of tractor supply stores. That’s why the only way to go about it is to talk directly to management.
      Some store managers are very strict and send them back while others are more than happy to get rid of them because they’re taking up space. Try Facebook marketplace as well, that’s where I get mine

      @@IsaacAlexanderDIY thanks. I checked marketplace today, but will keep an eye open. Have a friend who's son has friends that work at Tractor Supply. She's going to see if he has any pull. Thanks

    Were you picking Styrofoam off yourself for the next month after?

      Though it can be quite messy, the cleanup wasn’t that difficult, just tedious

    I’m finding it impossible to get any styrofoam blocks.

      Unfortunately a lot of people are as well. It’s usually best to get them in the winter time or even the year before. The foam blocks I got were found in February after looking on Facebook marketplace every week

    Isaac can you please mail me the extra foam blocks 😭 I'll pay for them or come get them. I can't find the blocks at all for this project and I want to get this done

      Because of the size of each Styrofoam block, it would never be cost-effective to mail them. Not to mention you would need over 50 of them for this size 😕 in fact, when I pick up these blocks, I can only pick up 18 at a time in my pick up truck. They’re just so bulky

      If you got yourself out of the house and did something productive with your life you might understand that your little tantrum is directed at the wrong person.
      Maybe direct it to the top 10% who create the most pollution on the planet, and not my jack-o’-lantern shavings. Education is important and so is being responsible with the environment. These 52 blocks were going to end up in a landfill, and yet now they’ll be part of my Halloween collection for years to come until I give it to another family one day so that they can continue the tradition..
