    How To make Cleaning Spray: DIY Citrus Cleaning Spray
    Ingredients:
    • Peel from Any Citrus Fruit
    • Distilled Vinegar (also known as Distilled Malt Vinegar)
    • Distilled or Freshly boiled then cooled Water (Optional)
    Making your own homemade cleaning product is a great way to kick off Spring Cleaning 2020. But most commercial cleaning sprays are filled with strong chemicals, harsh fragrances and generally unpleasant ingredients! Natural cleaning products are a great way to start non toxic cleaning - but they’re also often just as effective and incredibly affordable!
    Distilled Vinegar might sound fancy but it’s literally the cheapest vinegar you can find! It’s clear in colour and a little milder than white and spirit vinegars - making it perfect for a citrus cleaning spray that can be used on delicate surfaces. The natural acidity found in vinegar can dissolve away soap scum, the brines left by hard water and even residue glue! It’s also great for getting rid of stains, and cleaning windows and mirrors.
    However do not use this natural cleaner on marble or granite surfaces as the vinegar can etch away at the stone!
    This DIY Citrus Cleaning Spray is completely customisable - so you can find the perfect fragrance for your home! Simply change the citrus fruit, add some fresh herbs and spices or even essential oil! Just remember that some surfaces should not come into contact with oil, so bare that in mind when you make adjustments to this natural cleaning product recipe.

    What about pesticide on fruit Pell?

    • @WholeElise
      @WholeElise  4 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Hi, where possible I try to use organic fruits to avoid pesticides. However don't worry if that's not an option, thoroughly soaking and washing your fruit peels beforehand, along with the acidity of the vinegar should reduce a lot of the pesticides. The cleaning spray is also not being consumed. Thanks for watching 😊

      I'm only guessing here, but if you want to help preserve this naturally, then consider adding some Ascorbic acid (Vitamin C) and Vitamin E. They're frequently used as food preservatives, and this cleaner is made from food products.
      Idk whether to add it after the 4 week sitting period or before.
      Be careful with how much Vitamin E, seeing as how it's an oil base.
      Citric acid may also work well. It too is a naturally occurring acid (found in Citrus fruits, surprise!).
      Citric acid and Ascorbic acid are weak acids (high pH for an acid), so you won't be acidifying your mix much more than it already is.

    • @WholeElise
      @WholeElise  4 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Due to the high acidity content of vinegar it is very unlikely that it will spoil, however oxidation and degradation can occur if it isn't stored correctly. Some vinegars are more prone to this than others but keeping it in a glass jar that is completely sealed, along with refrigerating should help with that. You might also need to check that all the fruit fiber have been strained out. Thanks for watching!

    Contains no surfactants. Won’t dissolve grease and oil. Not all purpose.

    • @WholeElise
      @WholeElise  4 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Hi Frank, that's very true! I refer to it as a multi surface cleaning spray but in my comment I accidentally wrote "all purpose" it's been amended now. With limited supplies available I aimed to make a cleaning spray out of cheap and available ingredients people are likely to have at home. And whilst it's not as heavy duty I hope it'd still be helpful to some 💚

      If you add a few drops of a good dish soap to the mixture, you'll never clean with anything else. I've been using this for years and the few drops of dish detergent makes it all purpose. I even use it to clean my fruits and veggies, rinsing well afterwards. But you don't have to rinse it for non food cleaning.

    • @FrankGutowski-ls8jt
      @FrankGutowski-ls8jt 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Orange Moon
      Well, adding dish soap, which probably contains detergents, not soaps, makes all the difference because detergents are surfactants.
