Halo 4 got mixed reactions from folks who finished Bungie's series with Halo: Reach. But it always held a special place in the Halo pantheon for me because of the new ground it covered. It's good to see someone else appreciates it for the same reason.
I think it was timing. Had 343i waited another year or 2 to release it and let Halo Reach settle. Might have not received such mix reviews. That's my 2 cents on it.

The TyRant even just a year would have been fine, 343 had trouble actually finalizing the game and developing the actual sandbox so waiting until XBone would have been a godsend for halo 4

Halo 2 had sprinting. Bungie cut it during development, but with modding, you can reactivate it. There's an Easter egg when you sprint with dual SMGs too.

Randehmarsh Games I cant agree about the story I think chief talks too much. I thought it was a treat to hear him talk and give one liner but now he just carries out conversations during battle. And I wish the whole story wasn’t just some love story

The biggest problem with the Halo 4 story is a lot of deep lore shit happened that they never really explained in the game. Like the UNSC command structure, where this new spartan program came from, why are the elites assholes now. Spartan ops stuff only added to the confusion. Not mentioning the minor, weird ass narrative choices, like how the captain of the UNSC infinity sends the fucking MASTER CHIEF away, and they follow up with this weird ass Locke vs Chief dynamic in Halo 5 that just isn’t appealing to even think about.
As a true gamer halo 4’s campaign actually had me immersed fully I didn’t care about what was hidden or exploring the story was so much interesting and filling that I wanted it to continue the same way but halo 5 sigh halo 5 halo 5.... oh how disappointing you are

I've played Halo far longer than I've played Call of Duty. The only new additions to Halo (as far as movement goes) that I don't like are ground pounding and charging.
I'm not looking to argue, but when I played through halo 4 I almost never used sprint and didnt really feel the need to use it. I think the game would have been fine without it

But after my initial expectations had been wrecked, I made some good memories with friends and took it for what it was, and I can really look back at Halo 4 quite fondly. Well, Chief did at least say that they were more "Fanatical" than last time he fought, but still, even then probably would have had more exposition in the campaign.
I wanna say it was either an art book or a strategy guide where they were referred to as the Storm Covenant? But don't quote me on that. As for other mentions (not by name, but implying they're different to Covenant we know). Chief: "I thought we had a truce with the Covenant". Cortana: "A lot can happen in four years". Cortana: "The good news is these Covenant aren't outfitted like standard military. It's possible we just came across a rogue salvage ship.... Or we might have stumbled into an entire Covenant fleet". Chief: "Maybe they haven't recognised us". Cortana: "That's one possibility". & as stated further up in the thread; Chief: "These Covenant seem more fanatical than the ones we've fought before"..
Honestly it wasn't quite as good as the others but i don't think it was bad. Except the multiplayer. That was kind of an unbalanced mess. The campaign was good though. And it was a good start that could have led to something good. I certainly don't think halo 4 is bad. But Halo 5 definitely is and that's really sad. But it looks so far like they have learned their lessons for Infinite so i hope that goes better.

The beginning of Halo 4 is great and the story is really interesting all the way through. Its just the further in you get the more of a tedious slog the gameplay becomes. The promethians as enemies are less fun to fight than other halo enemies. At least that's how I felt when playing through it.
When you get done with the campaign, you need to play the Spartan Ops. It is an extension of the story and you will need the context for Halo 5. Love your videos!
He can just watch the cutscenes. Weirdly, playing spartan ops doesn’t actually show the relavent cutscene before each mission. You have to manually watch them. What is even the point then!?
tiddy fuk tha police it works as a “firefight” like mission. Say you are board and want to shoot some aliens, but don’t want to start a story campaign, you can pick from one of the 40 or so missions and jump right in. It’s something you can pickup and do casually for a while...like opening up solitaire and playing a game to pass time.
Wondering why you're still fighting the Covenant. When the Arbiter returned to base and made his report, the Covenant split into two groups and now fighting each other. The first group are those who still follow the Prophet's beliefs (even though they're all dead) and will still be your enemies no matter what. The second group are those who follow the Arbiter and rebel against the Covenant ( you don't meet them until Halo 5 and are your allies in the war).
Also, it's not far fetched to assume that not every Elite would instantly stop believing in the Forerunners' divinity and would try to find answers in their faith (like in Christianism when the Pope was contested or new interpretations of the Bible's texts were formulated). And like Truth says in Halo 3, "Your people never believed... in the promise of the Sacred Rings." The Elites still look pretty religious though, don't they?
HartianX she didn’t directly say it was a splinter faction, but she consistently refers to them as the covenant throughout the game so even if she did, it doesn’t really matter

The difference Dee Bee Geek, you invest in the whole lore, some people didn't and also the chance was something they didn't like. I for one loved this one and also Halo 5 and I played every one of them. You get what is going on because you watched those videos about the Fore-runner.
The issue with the story in Halo 4 was that it required you to have read some of the books to understand what was going on. Also the art doesn't feel halo, halo wars 2 fixed it though

There are a few things 343 did do right in halo 4. Loved the SAW, loved the Rail Gun, Warthog was great, nice views, the tall forerunner monoliths are always impressive and the skull like marine uniforms were a decent mixup.

For me as a veteran from Halo Saga, I really love see new people open minded for the new work, people who really knows to validate the old and the new, but as well is pretty hard for me see somebody new giving a good opinion tam those who saw born this saga, pretty cool video

I really like Halo 4. Halo 5 has great gameplay but its writing just felt soulless and phoned in as if story and gameplay heavily practiced social distancing before it was popular.
I'm pretty sure I remember reading something about how Halo 5 underwent the same development hell that Destiny did causing at least 5 years worth of work being lost and then having to try and put it back together in time for launch.

One thing that you have to know about the Covenant in this game is that they are a splinter group that made of members of the Covenant who still have a grudge against humanity. And while there are elites in the Remnant, most of the elites are still allied with humanity and are loyal to the Arbiter
Halo 4 has one of the best Halo campaigns, there’s no ridiculous amount of backtracking or recycling of levels like in the original trilogy and it doubles down on what made the Halo CE campaign special, Chief and Cortana in a strange land.

No they are Tier 1 not 0, the Precursor were questionably Tier 0. I say questionably because there is so little information about them, but they are the seeders of life so they could have achieved Tier 0.

I really respect how you've gone through this games, have arrived at Halo 4 and can appreciate it's differences. I think the music, art style and narrative, whilst being very different, is beautiful - not to mention Cortana booty. Best thing I can advise, enjoy what you want about this games and don't worry about expectations for the games that the community have given you.

Honestly it’s so nice and refreshing to see. Like watching this series has been really great to be honest. The fact that you’re enjoying everything Halo and can set aside petty differences like sprint vs no sprint. Every Halo has felt like Halo to me, even 5 for all of its shortcomings and missteps. The franchise has had its ups and downs and there’ll be plenty more. But it’ll forever remain my favourite franchise.
Though i am not a fan of this game, it brings so much nostalgia! Its kind of sad that this was the first game i ever played because when i got the xbox 360 for the first time it came with it for free. Love your reactions to the halo franchise! theres like 30+ halo novels btw. I recommend reading the forerunner trilogy (Cryptum, Primordium, and Silentium) for background on the Didact. Also the Halo 3 terminals talked about the Didact and the Librarian. I think the biggest issue 343 has is relying on books and comics to fill in some of the plot gaps. Btw , The covenant in this are a splinter faction of the covenant called the "Storm Covenant". Theyre more fanatical and they still believe in the Prophets' ideals despite them being all killed in Halo 2 and 3.
These past three days I've watched you play through Reach, ODST and the original trilogy and it sounds odd to say but I'm so damn proud of you man. You came in fresh not knowing anything and truly became one of us. I enjoyed your commentary and general wonder in everything you experienced and like you, I like sprint and loved Halo 4 as much as the Bungie era.
I like Halo 4, it gets waaayyyy more hate than it truly deserves. My only real problems with it were the sound design (not soundtrack), and new Forerunner art. Some complain about the levels being linear but you don't notice that much imo. But the hate this game got on release was unreal.
The sound design does sound a bit weird... Like Dee says, it's crisp, much more than it is soothing. Approximately everything else about the campaign except the sound design and level linearility, I love.
@@spiguy my problem with it is the new Covenant sounds. Elites sound more like brutes (and look way too stocky) and the grunts cute chatter is gone and replaced with weird ass chirping. And on some levels like "Forerunner" its too sci to beep boop for me than Halo's usual orchestral music

Rewatching this today on Halo 4's 10th anniversary. Takes me back to the hype and excitement of when the game first launched. The graphics, the gameplay, THE RETURN OF THE CHIEF! So many good times. I'm so glad Dee enjoyed Halo 4 too.

Most underrated Halo game. The direction 343 took with 4 was killed by toxic fanboys, and the hard left they made after this game nearly killed Halo. 5 was garbage, and that saddens me. The multiplayer wasn’t bad with 5 though, but wasn’t Halo’ish to me at all. 4’s. Multiplayer after a few updates was the smoothest to date. Some of the best maps in the series. This is my second favorite halo game. 2-4-3-1-5

The biggest problem with the Halo 4 story is a lot of deep lore shit happened that they never really explained in the game.
Like the UNSC command structure, where this new spartan program came from, why are the elites assholes now. Spartan ops stuff only added to the confusion. Not mentioning the minor, weird ass narrative choices, like how the captain of the UNSC infinity sends the fucking MASTER CHIEF away, and they follow up with this weird ass Locke vs Chief dynamic in Halo 5 that just isn’t appealing to even think about.
As a true gamer halo 4’s campaign actually had me immersed fully I didn’t care about what was hidden or exploring the story was so much interesting and filling that I wanted it to continue the same way but halo 5 sigh halo 5 halo 5.... oh how disappointing you are

I've played Halo far longer than I've played Call of Duty. The only new additions to Halo (as far as movement goes) that I don't like are ground pounding and charging.
I'm not looking to argue, but when I played through halo 4 I almost never used sprint and didnt really feel the need to use it. I think the game would have been fine without it

@Chip_Kipperly I mean don't get me wrong, as someone who started out with Combat Evolved, Halo 4 was definitely disappointing originally. But after my initial expectations had been wrecked, I made some good memories with friends and took it for what it was, and I can really look back at Halo 4 quite fondly. I really wish I could say the same about Halo 5's story though. Regardless, it just gets me really excited to just see some positivity towards the 343 era games

Honestly it wasn't quite as good as the others but i don't think it was bad. Except the multiplayer. That was kind of an unbalanced mess. The campaign was good though. And it was a good start that could have led to something good. I certainly don't think halo 4 is bad. But Halo 5 definitely is and that's really sad. But it looks so far like they have learned their lessons for Infinite so i hope that goes better.

The beginning of Halo 4 is great and the story is really interesting all the way through. Its just the further in you get the more of a tedious slog the gameplay becomes. The promethians as enemies are less fun to fight than other halo enemies. At least that's how I felt when playing through it.

When you get done with the campaign, you need to play the Spartan Ops. It is an extension of the story and you will need the context for Halo 5. Love your videos!
He can just watch the cutscenes. Weirdly, playing spartan ops doesn’t actually show the relavent cutscene before each mission. You have to manually watch them. What is even the point then!?

Say you are board and want to shoot some aliens, but don’t want to start a story campaign, you can pick from one of the 40 or so missions and jump right in. It’s something you can pickup and do casually for a while...like opening up solitaire and playing a game to pass time.
I hope he listens and watches all the promotional stuff for halo 5. To feel the disappointment most halo fans felt when it came out.

Wondering why you're still fighting the Covenant. When the Arbiter returned to base and made his report, the Covenant split into two groups and now fighting each other.
The first group are those who still follow the Prophet's beliefs (even though they're all dead) and will still be your enemies no matter what. The second group are those who follow the Arbiter and rebel against the Covenant ( you don't meet them until Halo 5 and are your allies in the war).
Too bad the games neglected to tell us this until that had to give huge exposition dumps in Halo 5
They don't still follow the Prophet's beliefs and they aren't all dead, but they still see the Forerunners as Gods.
Also, it's not far fetched to assume that not every Elite would instantly stop believing in the Forerunners' divinity and would try to find answers in their faith (like in Christianism when the Pope was contested or new interpretations of the Bible's texts were formulated). And like Truth says in Halo 3, "Your people never believed... in the promise of the Sacred Rings." The Elites still look pretty religious though, don't they?

The issue with the story in Halo 4 was that it required you to have read some of the books to understand what was going on. Also the art doesn't feel halo, halo wars 2 fixed it though

There are a few things 343 did do right in halo 4. Loved the SAW, loved the Rail Gun, Warthog was great, nice views, the tall forerunner monoliths are always impressive and the skull like marine uniforms were a decent mixup.
Hey Dee, before you go into Halo 5, be sure to check out an audio series made officially by 343, called "Halo: Hunt the Truth" It's got some great story and it gives you another perspective on this awesome universe.
For me as a veteran from Halo Saga, I really love see new people open minded for the new work, people who really knows to validate the old and the new, but as well is pretty hard for me see somebody new giving a good opinion tam those who saw born this saga, pretty cool video

It's so nice to see someone new to the series that doesn't trash the other Halo games. I personally, love them all! I just love Halo! - Of course I have my favourites though.
I really like Halo 4. Halo 5 has great gameplay but its writing just felt soulless and phoned in as if story and gameplay heavily practiced social distancing before it was popular.
I'm pretty sure I remember reading something about how Halo 5 underwent the same development hell that Destiny did causing at least 5 years worth of work being lost and then having to try and put it back together in time for launch.
It’s a cycle. People hated Halo: Reach and now they love it all of the sudden. Honestly halo 4 are like opposite game’s.

One thing that you have to know about the Covenant in this game is that they are a splinter group that made of members of the Covenant who still have a grudge against humanity. And while there are elites in the Remnant, most of the elites are still allied with humanity and are loyal to the Arbiter
Halo 4 has one of the best Halo campaigns, there’s no ridiculous amount of backtracking or recycling of levels like in the original trilogy and it doubles down on what made the Halo CE campaign special, Chief and Cortana in a strange land.

it's amazing to relive the experiences I had when first playing Halo back in 2005, thank you for not playing Halo when it came out, your videos make me feel good
I really respect how you've gone through this games, have arrived at Halo 4 and can appreciate it's differences. I think the music, art style and narrative, whilst being very different, is beautiful - not to mention Cortana booty. Best thing I can advise, enjoy what you want about this games and don't worry about expectations for the games that the community have given you.
Halo: The Fall of Reach is one of my favorite books. Honestly if you love Halo and Master Chief, it's a must read for context.

Honestly it’s so nice and refreshing to see. Like watching this series has been really great to be honest. The fact that you’re enjoying everything Halo and can set aside petty differences like sprint vs no sprint. Every Halo has felt like Halo to me, even 5 for all of its shortcomings and missteps. The franchise has had its ups and downs and there’ll be plenty more. But it’ll forever remain my favourite franchise.

theres like 30+ halo novels btw. I recommend reading the forerunner trilogy (Cryptum, Primordium, and Silentium) for background on the Didact. Also the Halo 3 terminals talked about the Didact and the Librarian. I think the biggest issue 343 has is relying on books and comics to fill in some of the plot gaps. Btw , The covenant in this are a splinter faction of the covenant called the "Storm Covenant". Theyre more fanatical and they still believe in the Prophets' ideals despite them being all killed in Halo 2 and 3.

These past three days I've watched you play through Reach, ODST and the original trilogy and it sounds odd to say but I'm so damn proud of you man. You came in fresh not knowing anything and truly became one of us. I enjoyed your commentary and general wonder in everything you experienced and like you, I like sprint and loved Halo 4 as much as the Bungie era.
I like Halo 4, it gets waaayyyy more hate than it truly deserves. My only real problems with it were the sound design (not soundtrack), and new Forerunner art. Some complain about the levels being linear but you don't notice that much imo. But the hate this game got on release was unreal.
The sound design does sound a bit weird... Like Dee says, it's crisp, much more than it is soothing. Approximately everything else about the campaign except the sound design and level linearility, I love.
@@spiguy my problem with it is the new Covenant sounds. Elites sound more like brutes (and look way too stocky) and the grunts cute chatter is gone and replaced with weird ass chirping. And on some levels like "Forerunner" its too sci to beep boop for me than Halo's usual orchestral music

Rewatching this today on Halo 4's 10th anniversary. Takes me back to the hype and excitement of when the game first launched. The graphics, the gameplay, THE RETURN OF THE CHIEF! So many good times. I'm so glad Dee enjoyed Halo 4 too.

Most underrated Halo game. The direction 343 took with 4 was killed by toxic fanboys, and the hard left they made after this game nearly killed Halo. 5 was garbage, and that saddens me. The multiplayer wasn’t bad with 5 though, but wasn’t Halo’ish to me at all. 4’s. Multiplayer after a few updates was the smoothest to date. Some of the best maps in the series.
