Thank you Wolfy for your educational interview! We pile burned regularly on our heavily wooded 5.5 acre property. There were strict rules dealing with Sonoma County and our fire department. We took out all dead and diseased trees to allow the coast redwoods and wild hazelnuts to thrive. My husband is an arborist so we did all of the work ourselves. Our property thrived…it looked like a park…the fire department was thrilled! Unfortunately the neighboring properties did little to none to manage our collective forest. We too have difficulty looking beyond overburdened or diseased/dying trees everywhere we go!😆 Thank you Zeke!

This year my nephew purchased two hundred acres in Butte County (Hurles Circle). I'm going to pass this info to him. I live on 6 acres in El Dorado County.

After a November wildfire went through an oak woodland where a lot of French broom had grown, the fire released so much broom seed that the result was many tiny broom plants growing back so thick that those at first appeared to be a green lawn. Apparently French broom seed accumulates on the ground and is viable for so long that burning that ground makes a broom infestation much worse.

How can I learn how to do prescribed burns in the San Diego back country? We have a lot of dead oaks here.

I've recently (over the last 5 years) hand pulled a few acres of yellow star thistle but now a few varieties of tarweed have taken over. I'd love to do a prescribed burn in the area to try and encourage more native grasses but don't know where to start. Rescue, CA El Dorado County,
