@Matthew Rice They could, but the thing is, the cows aren't pets. They are working animals. If she's isolated, she's not working. They don't have the time and resources to give certain cows special treatment. I'm not saying farmers don't care about the health of their animals, but as long as the animal is providing the product, and there are ways to keep the animal alive/producing, that's really the primary driver.

Personally, I wouldn't call this a failure, due to the fact that even though it isn't healed, it didn't get worse. That is a wonderfully hopeful sign for this cow. The lack of healing isn't a sign of failure. It just means that it's going to take longer to tend to Cow 89 than the usual. Of course, her issue was a lot worse when you started out, you took off almost the entire sole of her hoof. It really looks like she could make a full recovery with continued treatments and after what I've seen on this channel, I think you're her best hope for saving that foot.

Not a failure, progress. I was a professional horse farrier for 11 years, and still trim my daughter's ponies, and the major thing I learned is that good farriers (like you) are behaviorists, not just hoof trimmers. I did a LOT of corrective trims on horses that had all kinds of problems due to overgrown or poorly managed hooves, and if the animal was no worse four weeks after the first correction, I counted that a win, because it means we've begun to arrest the issue, and can work toward correction. It takes about a year for a horse to grow a full, new, healthy hoof wall. You use exactly the approach I would have taken on a bad horse hoof...remove as much of the bad hoof as possible, make the animal comfortable, disinfect, pack and wrap the wound. Good on ya, mate! Very well done! I love watching your videos.
