I actually had one of my friends play this scenario with me along to guide him when he started playing Civ VI and had about 20 hours in the game. It helped him really learn the basics of the combat system and concepts like flanking bonuses and siege weapons because there were lots of units to play with continuously at the same tech level instead of little bits of combat spread across hours where units could be vastly different depending on technology. I really love the scenarios because they can really focus in on one mechanic or idea even if they feel too simple to people with lots of hours in the main game.
***slight spoiler comment below*** One of the achievements mentioned involves getting 200 score, the "top" rank. I played this scenario blind and didn't realise, to get this score, you needed to win the scenario AND settle 11 to 12 cities whilst doing it. I did not settle enough so if you want all 4, remember to get those settlers out!
@@UrsaRyan I hope you do it on camera. This is achievement since it came out has gotten even harder since some patches have changed combat (especially XP gain in October 2020). I've been stuck and I think your abilities and attempts will add some additional insight into how we can complete it in 2023. Loved the video!
This challenge is hard even on lower difficulties. From what I understand you have to produce something like 14 settlers to get over the score threshold of the achievement. Good luck Urs!
Kinda amusing when you took Egypt and said ‘Sorry Cleopatra’ - because Cleopatra wouldn’t be Queen if it weren’t for Alexander’s conquest! She’s a descendent of Alexander’s general, Ptolemy, who took over control of Egypt after Alexander’s death!
As someone who got all the achievements for Civ 6, hearing you start this challenge like "just win, conquer everything, get highest score? We should be fine" made me chuckle.
@@UrsaRyan Awesome, can't wait to see it :) This is probably the best scenario because it's relaxing on lower difficulties while still teaching practical domination skills, and on higher difficulties it starts feeling almost impossible, then is finally super rewarding to successfully get the achievements on. The others are worth playing too, so I hope you check them out!
£404 - The meeting of Diogenes of Sinope and Alexander the Great is one of the most discussed anecdotes from philosophical history. Many versions of it exist in the annals of the University of Sankore. The most popular relate it as evidence of Diogenes' disregard for authority, wealth, and decorum.
Scenarios are really nice, they have different mechanics than the regular game, I have all the scenario achievements except hardest possible rank in Alexander scenario and the online/multiplayer ones. My favourites are Gifts of the Nile and Vikings scenario
If you're looking for completionism, you can get the multiplayer achievements by just doing a local hotseat session by yourself. I'm pretty sure I recall that for the scenarios, you can still set hotseat to one human player and the rest AI, so it works pretty smoothly. Gifts of the Nile was cool but from what I gathered from forum posts, the devs did some rebalance stuff which affected the scenario making the effective playstyle pretty one-dimensional. Vikings was fun, I'm a real big fan of this Alexander one for actually teaching domination gameplay fundamentals, and I enjoyed Path to Nirvana as well.
As one of the people who have been hounding you to do this particular scenario, thank you so much! Im so excited to watch you take this one on. I have failed about 7 times lmao
Did Hoplites not get bonus 10 strength from being adjacent to another hoplite ? Gorgo being one of my favourites it always bothered me that hoplites didnt get movement bonus from generals
6:52 Can't see if anyone else commented on this, but it says "while Alexander is within one tile", and in your case he was 2 tiles away. Edit: Ok, you realized this a while later.
@@UrsaRyan Trying to remember who did the Aus one on their channel (actual scenario, not the Emu war mod) Lass at work thought I was joking about the infamous war when I made reference to it on a call the other week. The was lost for words when I pinged the Wiki article.
By the way, Doesn't hoplite gain +10 combat strength by adjacent to another hoplite in this game mode? I feel like it should have made a lot of difference if it does.
They're good here, but don't make a big difference. They're nice to have around but can't keep up with the Hetairoi and Alexander who really need to sprint across the map mowing down everything. It also helps that you're pumping out tons of them over the course of the war, so even if the two Hoplites perform better in a couple of battles, the Hetairoi are always going to be doing the heavy lifting.
I'm working on this scenario now. Def the hardest I've attempted. Probably given it about 15, full run, tries thus far all pretty bad. How should I go about producing settlers vs units? I got 10 settlers, settled (with one 1 turn away) and 7 cities left to conquer as my best result so far. Def struggling with the cities to the far east on the map. Will give it a go again soon.
As someone who's played most of the Civ V scenarios on Deity this definitely looks on par with that game's challenging Fall of Rome and Scramble for Africa achievements. Is this Civ VI's hardest deity scenario, or are there even harder ones?
Only the cities you found are useful for building stuff. The conquered cities should probably only do encampment projects for some gold. The conquered city states (not persian) can also build stuff. Still, building units that will never get to the front line is pointless, it is better just to buy some close to the walking army.
Honestly, I'm totally on-board of seeing all of the scenarios played
Some of them are reslly boring thou. Like the Viking ones.
Poland's scenario is pure chaos. SO MANY invaders at the same time! I really want to see that one.

"Sorry Cleopatra" But Cleopatra was Ptolemaic. She only ruled Egypt bc of Alexander's conquests because she was descended from one of his generals.

This is such a difficult scenario. You're doing great, but its so easy to just trip on one city and the whole campaign comes crashing down.
