    Thank you! You just gave me the courage to make the veil for my grandson's bride! She picked out a veil with pearl embellishment all over it. It was $500! We found the fabric for $10/yard and saved $450! Thank you so much! I followed your tutorial, and the veil is beautiful! WOW!

    Thank you for this video. You’ve saved my bacon. I could not find a veil pattern anywhere.
    My daughter asked if she could wear my veil ‘something old’ of 35yrs ago as a veil for her wedding. Feeling pretty chuffed to share a special connection with her.
    Once I unpicked the veil & blusher from the comb & aligned it to your pattern. The rest was easy

    Hi there… I’ve been sewing since I was 8 yrs old. Now with 50+ since sewing professionally. I lost track of how many veils that I’ve made. They are one of the most expensive thing on a brides list. Realistic when they are heavily embellished, hand sewn beads, crystals, etc. you get it, but sometimes they are really simple, one layer & rather scrimpy sewn to a comb not even w/ a crown/ head pc. I’ll watch the video again in case I missed it but always make sure that if you add lace trim, appliqués, beads etc., that when you attach it to (usually) a comb or a head pc that it is “not” on the wrong side when the comb is placed into the hair. Fyi you probably will only do this once…. Lol, because it’s a real pain in the hiney to take it apart & correct it. Great video!! ❤

    I'm making a funeral veil. For my husband. He would have been pleased about this because we always made clothing and accessories together... I've picked some very sheer black tulle and a brown comb for my brown hair with the black tulle covering and sewing it to the veil off centre so it can be inserted into a low bun and left to hang over the face or taken back over the bun/removed later.

    Hello Chelsea, I am making a cathedral length veil for my Granddaughters wedding the end of April.I hope you can answer a couple of questions for me.I am using the same size comb that you used in this video, I am putting one row of small beads around the edge . I’ve never done anything like this before but I am finding your video very helpful. I am hand sewing the beads onto the veil. Would you still recommend me stitching around the veil first before adding the beads? The beads are tiny and in a sequence of five. The other question is, do you think I would need a bigger comb? The veil is one piece, does not have a blusher.( I hope that was the right word!) would I do the beads before gathering the top as per your instructions? Thank you for your video! Judy

    Hi Chelsea, thank you for the video! I'm making my own veil for my wedding and I found this video very helpful :) I only have one question though, if the tulle is slightly elastic in one direction only, in which direction do you recommend cutting the fabric? Is it better to have the elasticity going down or to the sides? Thanks!

    • @sewwithchelsea
      @sewwithchelsea  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi,
      For veil it doesn’t really matter if it has stretch or not. Since you’re not putting a body into it it’s never going to be stretched in use.
      That being said keep in mind that if you have stretch in the length of anything it may “hang out”. Or stretch after it’s cut just by pulling itself longer due to its own weight.
      If you would like your veil longer than the fabric is wide, that will automatically dictate which way to cut as you will have to cut it lengthwise in the fabric.
      If the fabric is wide enough to do either direction I would look and see if it drapes nicer one way or the other.
      Happy sewing!

    Love this video, can you provide the trim setting? TY

    • @sewwithchelsea
      @sewwithchelsea  ปีที่แล้ว

      I use a very small stitch, number two on my machine. And make sure your tension isn’t too tight. If it’s too tight it can cinch up your tulle and then it doesn’t lay flat. 😀

    Thanks for this tutorial! Have you ever made any veils with a scalloped edge and lace leaves?

    • @sewwithchelsea
      @sewwithchelsea  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I’ve done many different types of lace scallops. I often use an invisible thread in my bobbin and a regular thread in my needle to sew on lace trim or appliqué. You most often don’t notice a needle thread on the lace and it will sew much better than using invisible thread in both.
      I typically cut the edge straight. Add whatever embellishment I’m wanting to add. And then if I need to adjust the edge of the veil to match the scallop I do it after.😊

  • @kimgeisthardt6596
    @kimgeisthardt6596 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    What do you set your stitch length and tension set at. When I stitch my edge the tule gathers and it’s not a nice flat edge like yours.

    • @sewwithchelsea
      @sewwithchelsea  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Use a medium stitch length, I use 3 on my machine. Try loosening your tension. I also find holding my thread when I start sewing helps it not bunch. Even if you start again in the middle of stitching the edge. The first jerk of the thread when you start stitching can cause smooth stitches to bunch just because the tulle is such soft fabric.

    • @sewwithchelsea
      @sewwithchelsea  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You can design a veil any way you like. The nice thing about tulle is that it doesn’t fray so you do not need to hem it ever. I’ve made a few emails with no hem and Swarovski crystals sprinkled all over it. Those were beautiful veils.
      Trust your instinct. What do you think is a nice combination of decorative details?!?

    How about a 2 tiered veil? Would u just add both tiers to the same comb?

    • @sewwithchelsea
      @sewwithchelsea  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, both layers would be attached to the same comb. I always cut it in one piece though. measure and cut the tulle the length of both layers. Round the corners and sew a gathering stitch straight across your tulle right where your two layers meet. Gather it together and attach the comb right at that stitch line. Be sure your shorter top lay will be on top when the comb is stuck down into the hair ;)

  • @xxsecretdreamerzxx

    Are you stitching it folded so it's 2 layers thick or you unfolded it?

    • @sewwithchelsea
      @sewwithchelsea  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Folded so that it is two layers. For a tutu you need so many layers it’s less cutting if you cut double wide and fold them in half. I also like it better because the raw cut edge of tulle can be scratchy. Sometimes little ends will poke through and be rough on your waist.

      Hi Meg! Typically, I use the full width of the tulle, most are about 137 cm. If the edges are not even you can definitely trim it down a bit. I also get doublewide tulle if I want a fuller veil which is typically about 240 cm wide. I use double-wide tulle for cathedral-length veils. I find that regular width just looks like a thin strip down the back if it is a long veil. 😊
