Your attitude when things go south is an inspiration. Imagine if everyone was this positive about a break down. Gosh. Well done. Awesome content as always. Documenting the good and the bad with a great outlook.
Sorry about the breakdown, I hope you have a hassle free New Year. Keep putting out great content. Always look forward to seeing your videos. Have a great day.
It is never fun to have a breakdown but at least you have great people working with you to help fix it. Surprising that ASV has such a vulnerable connection.
Every piece of equipment has vulnerable pieces if you hit them just right. You can't shield everything from every direction. Doing dirt work you could go a million hours and never break that fitting but do forestry work and a branch will find a way.
Nice that you, Willie and Josh work so well together. You all could just work together but you are definitely a team! Not only that but you can all laugh about the whole incident. Well done on all levels.
Sorry to hear of your mishap. My friends in the landscaping business who own ASV 135s tell me they have significant undercarriage problems and blame them on the Yanmar buyout. As one says, “It’s no longer American made.” Thank God, he says, he also has a Cat with a Fecon mulcher. Never a problem with that. ASV owes you a free repair. If they had been designed better, Willie wouldn’t be using otherwise valuable time messing around fixing the thing. May you, Josh, Willie and your families have a healthy and Happy New Year. Continued good fortune and may God continue to smile on you. Three more deserving people I cannot think of.
You could have cussed and hollered when the line broke but you stopped, assessed the situation and started removing bolts and got the broken line out. You are commended for keeping your cool and getting the job done. Blessings to you all....
Like everyone else I’m really sorry that you had this problem but I do appreciate you showing us how you carried out repairs . Considering you must have been pretty hacked off it was very good of you . I wish you every success for 2023 and plenty of profit .
Very Very impressive! Iv looked at other channels with these machines that don't show half of this equipments capabilities. If your serious about buying this unit watch Upstate Brush Brush Control period!!
Hi Jon, that's bad luck with your breakdown and it's always the hardest to get to. With the terrain you are working I guess this is a common hazard. If I know you Jon, you will be up and running in no time. Keep them coming love em.
Sorry about the broken hose. It was interesting that you guys know how this machine is put together. To watch a video of 3 people “ Going ,Huh , Now What ? “ is not worth watching. Can’t wait to see part 2. Be well and be safe going into 2023 !
Great work. I love your videos. I own 2 gyro tracks, a 25xp and a 13 and an ASV120. Needless to say I've spent many days in the mud working on getting one or another operational. Machines in this line of work will break. The operation is forestry mulching and anything called forestry eats machines. Thanks for the great videos and sharing your knowledge.
Its alway the smallest jobs that create the most hassle, you would have thought that the designers would have made access to all working parts easy to get to, obviously they have never spoken to an operator or a mechanic. Let's hope that's that 2023 is so much better for you, a Happy New Year to everyone at Upstate and their families and friends.
Wow John, you were quite the trailblazer today. Attack those trees with no mercy. Sorry they fought back, but it could have been worse. Thank you for sharing!
Been there. Had a skid plate come loose and a stick got in which took off the opposite end of that line. Lucky the near farmer had a portable hose crimper and was able to put a new end on without pulling the track and drivemotor to get the hose out.
John, I feel your pain on the breakdown. I thought things like that only happened to me in my shop. Oh well, it's off to Cline company for a new hose. Hope you can build and install some type of protector pan in case that happens again. Hang in there and chin up for it could be much worse. Give thanks for Willy and Josh. They are a great help.
Happy New Year John and family and all the Upstate Brush Control team (it's 12.32am on 1 January 2023 here). May your troubles be less than this 'little' incident. What a beauty though.
Nice looking little project there, looks great little breakdown end of year what more could you ask for.yea right.2023 will be a great year.made it through 2020,2021,2022.just keep doing what your doing and carry on.great video.on till the next.kudos 😎😎😎👍👍👍🌲🌲🌲🪵🪵🪵
Good job !! Thank you for sharing your experience, and for taking the time to make these videos! We are thinking of buying equipment like yours, to work here in Chile, but we have some doubts. Can you tell us about the fuel consumption per hour? Any idea about the useful life in hours of the undercarriage?
Heck of a machine. Love the videos. I’ve had the same thing happen to me working machine in the woods but mine was a rock when it happened. Work at part was having to work in the oil slick but wasn’t to bad. I do favor working on our ASV rt120 over other brands. Much more open for access and love the higher ground clearance so u can crawl under without a jack.
Sorry to see the equipment failure but it was interesting to watch the two of you repairing it. Was that the log we saw front and center earlier that was mulched all the way. Oil is bad enough to have to change before climbing in your trucks but ivy..oof. Thanks for another year of great videos.
Glad to see these videos before I bought an ASV. On paper they look good but engineering like this has me questioning my choices. May stick with a dozer for clearing land
Breakdowns are unfortunate, but it’s nothing the Upstate pit crew can’t handle! I hope all of y’all had a Merry Christmas and I hope y’all have a Happy New Year! Take care and I’ll see you on the next one. Upstate Brush Control will ride again!!!
Being a relatively new to heavy duty mechanics but not being a mechanic I’ve noticed they print these crazy bevels kits on but realistically for what catches the eye but don’t really do a good job of protecting these integral drive lines i mean weather it John cat or kubota or asv I’m surprised they don’t put a steel spring on it or something on these lines to give them a little more dented deterrence I know caterpillar had fixed drive line plates that holds the lines in place and hides the ends of the fittings but this is a common occurance it seems s there trying to think of ways to deter it but don’t have a proper soloution
I have a demo showing up on a job next Tuesday....same rig as yours. I'm not too impressed with the debris that build up in the pump box... how do you clean it? Assuming with a pressure washer but looks like will need done often. This is why I'm considering a 150-2
@Upstate Brush Control went good, better than expected, however we know we will need the 150... also looking at some other brands. Wish we had a unit like that 2 years ago, would have saved alot of time.
How do Josh and Willy like their Rocky boot? I remember in a video a while back you said they were trying them. I love mine, I've been wearing Rocky's for at least 30 years.
You guys do some amazing work! I recently bought a 2022 ASV RT 75HD getting into mulching. Im noticing I have to tighten the tracks almost daily if not the track jumps when I back up. Curious do you guys tighen the track daily?
I’m curious, what made you choose the ASV over others like Cat or Deere. I don’t mean any disrespect, yours is obviously a great machine, I’m just trying to learn more about them all. Thanks for the videos.
ASV are more or less made for Mulching primarily, plus they have the highest HP of them all. As far as I know ASV, Cat, and believe it or not, Kubota are the top 3 for this kind of job. Things like hydraulic coolers and such that are standard on ASV forestry machines are a 5k+ add on for machines like John Deere and they usually sit on top of the cab. Bad thing about ASV is if it breaks down you have to find a way to get it to them because they don’t have service crews that will come out. This is coming from someone who lives in Oklahoma. Idk about other states as far as service goes.
@@CrookedlegGregI seriously do not understand it. It defies anything remotely resembling logic, reason, common sense or the slightest regard for other people. There is a dog in my neighborhood (on the other side from me thank goodness) that has been barking more or less continuously for about the past four years! You'd think that either the stupid friggin' dog would eventually realize that barking isn't accomplishing anything or that the owner would notice and stop it, but I guess coherent thoughts just completely elude them both.
The year is on its back. Prosperity to all. Thanks for all the sharing !!! Would it be cost effective to do the rough work with a dick mulcher. Finishing with a drum. Especially on longer/in distance work. With heavier trees? And yes. I realise equipment costs money. But my take is that the time gained will be advantageous in the long run?
Well John, good job on the mulching as usual, but don't get too down about the break down, because 💩 happens and we both know it happens at wrong time and place and I think we can both blame the architect/engineers who designed this flaw to begin with,
Hope you re engineer the covers around those hoses and fittings you know it will happen again Obviously it's a weak spot that should be exposed to anything Certainly a damper on a good days work

Dude I went to the local spot in Houston to price this unit they quoted me $149,000 without the mulcher then another 50 grand for the mulcher. WTF? So my plan B is to go by a Kioti 7320 with the closed cab, crank up the hydraulic pressure and let it rip. It's not necessary to have a zero turn capacity, and I can do other things with the tractor. What they are trying to change me in Houston is insane as far as I am concerned. The Kioti has skid mount attachments. I my view I can do the same thing for half the price that ASV is charging.

That's a tough one to figure out, I'm no engineer.
ANY time you say “this is gonna be a quick fast little job” something is about to ruin your day and possibly the rest of your week.
For sure!

If you have the slack they can cut the broke fitting off and crimp a new one on. I’ve made my share of hydraulic hoses
Takeuchi. Built like a tank!
I’m surprised to see big pieces like that left behind from a drum mulcher. Looks like a disc mulcher job.
Sorry for your equipment breaking down
From watching its no surprise this happened 😂👍👍
John I am surprised this does not happen more. It looks like A bad place for A hydraulic line.
How do Josh and Willy like their Rocky boot? I remember in a video a while back you said they were trying them. I love mine, I've been wearing Rocky's for at least 30 years.
I'll have to ask them.
question, are these fitted with metric or imperial fasteners, I would have thought metric if they want to sell these machines worldwide.
Looks like those bolts have sae grade markings on the head so I’m assuming not metric.
Great videos where do you purchase your equipment Thankyou Dan
We purchase from our ASV dealer out of Waxhaw, NC. Our mulcher heads come from Fecon.

Whats your take between the 120 and 135?
Making a path through the woods on the way to grandma’s house 🤷🏻♂️
Bad news, it broke. Good news, you guys have mechanical sense. Still aggravating but what you gonna do? Part of it.
I wouldn't want a house anywhere near those incessantly barking dogs or the kind of people who have dogs that never freaking shut the hell up.
It really makes you wonder about people who own dogs and just let them bark all day long

I so want to love ASV’s. But the undercarriages have such a weak set up for mulching!
It never fails…what looks like a relatively easy work day….bam turns into two days of aggravation!! The perils of business!
I dont like the looks of that under carriage! Alot easier to just put a track back on!!
Should have had him dig a trench, so ya could have walked under it to work on it😅
I suggested we dig a pit and pull the machine over it. Jon wasn’t thrilled at the idea!
For a new machine it has too many problems
That was painful to watch.
