  • Let me know which climb you like the most and if your beta looks like mine! I love how climbing is such an individual sport, with so many ways to dace up each boulder 😍
    Another Anna-Explains-in-way-too-much-detail-how-she-climbs-climbs episode! Thinking of making this a series in itself for all my fellow beta-geeks!
    This one is more vloggy, so if you want to skip right into the juice (aka the send vids) I time stamped them:
    3:47 Green Traverse (V6)
    8:11 Not to be Taken Away (V5)
    9:40 Crescent Arete (V2)
    13:23 Brad Pitt (V9) ... fail outtakes haha
    This was before second quarantine measures were set up, when it was okay to travel (and we had to for our broken van!). Weird times we live in.
    Also remember to vote today!

    Great video. Crescent arete and Not to be Taken Away are my two dream boulders in the peak, such cool lines. I've not been to see them cause I don't think I'm strong enough yet, and I bet they are much scarier in person.

      @AnnaHazelnutt  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks :) yes they’re incredible, I’m so glad I got to hop on them! They’re pretty tall, so I’d recommend waiting for a really frictiony day/ strong day with lots of pads and support. Also, not to be taken away has the crux at the beginning, which is nice because if you get through it, you can know you’re more than capable to make it to the top!

    My friend is trying Not To Be Taken Away at the moment (when conditions allow). That first foot is soooo polished! It needs to be a lot cooler me thinks.

      @AnnaHazelnutt  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It really is!! This day was absurdly humid making everything feel just... awful 😂 but maybe tell your friend about the heel hook beta! I thought it was loads easier esp. with that greasy foot!!

    Really enjoyed you talking through those climbs and explaining what was going through your head as you were on the boulder. Also, I'd bet good money that, pound for pound, you're way stronger than all those burly 6ft men!

    Never get sucked into other ppl's beta. I'm 5'10" (with a minus 5 ape index) and all my climbing friends are 6'2" (and plus 10 ape index) and taller. Their beta is utterly useless to me 9 times out of 10. They're like: "Just reach through to that hold" (somewhere in the stratosphere)! Nope! I almost always need a high drop-knee, rock-on or hell-hook to get to that thing way off in the distance somewhere! The burly guys are probably all jealous of your elegant beta as they are all to stiff to lift their legs that high!!! LOL. Develop your own style and just ignore the spray coming from ppl with completely different body types. Whenever I listen to the advice from below I will fall, when I manage to shut it out I send.
    A cool drill for developing and extending your technique is to traverse in the gym but choose the weirdest holds and all kinds of awkward positions then figure it out on the fly how to progress - you must flow and climb quickly - and not step of the wall. This forces you to adapt and be flexible in your approach to problem solving and it makes you strong in ways that you would never achieve with regular redpointing of projects. I have trained many intermediate climbers in this unusual way and their grades jump up 2-3 grades within a couple of weeks. It forces you to be fluid, to free up your feet, ankles, hips and core to rotate and twist, rather than just being focused on hand movements.. It also radically improves en-route problem solving and destroys any kind of rut or routine you may have gotten into which is almost always counter productive - you have to keep your body in a state of reaction to new stimuli to keep progressing. Try it, it's fun too!

    • @GregHartSk8er
      @GregHartSk8er 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      For the drill to work properly you must not think about the moves - just eye holds in strange arrangements (too far, too high, too low, no feet etc.) and just go for it. Throw your self into the moves and just see what happens, fight your way through the first time around the wall (next time will be easier - when it becomes fluid and easy then swop up your hand or feet sequences - cross under and over etc.). If you fall off, so what? Jump straight back on without analysing what happened at all and go again. Climb FAST! The aim is adaptation and arousal of instinctive responses to unusual scenarios. You will gain a VAST array of engrams in an extremely short space of time.

    • @AnnaHazelnutt
      @AnnaHazelnutt  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you so much! This sounds like a frikkin great drill omg! I'll do it next time I have access to a climbing gym. I feel like I've always known not to just follow other people's beta, and used to ALWAYS try to break beta and slither by on my wits (lol), but lately I've found value in getting stronger and pulling hard moves just for the sake of pulling hard moves to train for outdoors... but then when I get outdoors I'm like, OH YEAH it's time to actually just do my thing, we're not training anymore! haha.
      Let's see if I jump a few grades :P (jk)

    You shouldn't really keep a UK registered car overseas for more than a short time. If you live in Spain, the vehicle needs to be registered there. Especially after the end of the Breakshit transition period. Your insurance probably won't be valid.

    • @AnnaHazelnutt
      @AnnaHazelnutt  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Technically this is Ezra's van and he has a UK passport/insurance on it so I think it's fine, but when I decide to convert my own van, I'll def keep this in mind!
