  • An aerial view of Geauga Lake on February 6, 2016 shot by 2 Phantom 3 Advanced. Geauga Lake was an amusement park near Cleveland Ohio which was closed abruptly. Most of the area visited this park regularly and it was a part of Cleveland. This is a tribute to all the memories that this park helped create.
A special thank you to Marc Yeager who came along on the shoot with me and allowed me to use some of his video.

There's something so creepy yet awesome about an abandoned amusement park! Seeing the footers still there from the steel coasters, the wooden coaster with nature taking over... just so fascinating!!! I'd give anything to go explore in there!

I also spent many summers of my childhood here. This was the place my dad and I would always go together, the two of us. The park closed a month after I moved from Ohio to California, and I didn't find out until just recently. My father passed away in 2009 and I always wanted to go back to the park to see our old stomping ground, so this brought up so much emotion, and also so many fond memories. Thank you for sharing.

Thank you for posting this, I always loved riding the Big Dipper. Every summer my mom's company would have their company picnic there and would spend all day riding rides at least twice. What I don't understand is why Cedar Fair doesn't put their old rides here when they make room for newer ones, they could capitalize on having two parks. Their main park would still be called Cedar Point and then this one could be called Olde Cedar Point with the older rides like the Wildcat or Diaster Transport and other rides that no longer exist for the sake of the biggest coasters. I love roller coasters but I still love some of my old simple rides too and I am only 36. They should realize what they have in the property they have

This was a 19th century park. It was around for quite a while. There's always a bit of charm to old, run down areas. Maybe I hold nostalgia for things I didn't personally experience, or maybe I'm just nuts.

In the summer of 2007 I visited Geauga Lake with my family for the first time. I was 12 (the last time I had been there was when the park was Six Flags: Worlds of Adventure around 2002). We spent the whole day there, enjoying the water park, and in the evening I remember crossing the long bridge all the way across the lake. We watched the sun setting through the trees and over the water. I was having so much fun riding all of the roller coasters, I remember not wanting to leave. I saw Shamu's Happy Harbor playground and I never got a chance to go on it before it was time to go home. I came back the next summer to only a water park, not totally realizing what had happened. I didn't understand why the roller coasters and rides I loved so much had just closed in one year. My absolute favorite thing was the big bridge that floated over the water, and it was gone. About a year ago I found this article and it explained what happened to the amusement park from my childhood. This really tugs at some heartstrings!www.cleveland.com/akron/index.ssf/2015/09/drone_video_shows_last_coaster_geauga_lake.html

I worked here from 97-2006, I had the opportunity to meet so many awesome people and witnessed the park change from Geauga Lake to Six Flags to Cedar Fair. My summers were a total joy working here, even though it could get very busy, we always had fun. It's sad that this is gone. It offered jobs for kids, something that is becoming harder to find. Seeing what has become of the park is extremely sad, but it can't take away the great memories that I made. It can't take away the memories that our visitors have. In a small way it will live on in our memories for a long time.
My only hope is that they gave the Rotor to Rotorman, although I know they couldn't find parts to repair it near the end.

Beautiful video btw. The music goes well with the abandoned footage as it depicts a great loss and sadness to what was once a celebrated place. Cedar Fair pretty much ripped it's rides and attractions from the landscape. Such a merciless act done to the community.

My uncle George ran a wheel there back in the 40s, 50, and later. When we got up there from Akron he would let us pick up dimes that might have fallen on the floor. I loved the fun house (not really its name) but it had a huge barrel thing on its side that we tried to walk through, a large circular ride that you had to try to stay on and not slide off as it spun around, and a wooden slide that used burlap bags to ride down on. For 20 cents we could stay as long as we wanted. What memories that place had! Thanks for this visit down memory lane.

I never got to go here, but would see TV commercials for it all the time. As a kid growing up in WV, our annual pilgrimage was to Kennywood. I know how I'd feel if they tore that down for no good reason: like a piece of my childhood had been ripped away from me. My mom took my son here one summer when he was small, so he carries its memories, & mourns its loss. Must've been a grand place when the Big Dipper was new!

So sad.. we had summer passes every year as a kid I can remember the few times that my parents took me to see world and I would just be staring across the lake looking at all the people having fun on the roller coasters

I rarely comment on videos, but this is some beautiful work. Kudos to you for getting it and giving it that eerie but captivating feeling.

I used to visit every summer in the early to mid 90's. I rode my first roller coaster there (Raging Wolf Bobs). I've since moved on to Cedar Point but I definitely have a lot of memories of this place. :(

Hard for me to watch. I worked there for four summers in the late 70's/early 80's. I still have some amazing memories and even stay in touch with some friends from back in the day. It was a relatively small park by today's standards but boy did we have some fun.

wow this just made me so sad... I loved going to that park. both my girls had their first roller coaster ride on the Big Dipper. glad to see that is the last remaining ride left. They have really torn down all the buildings compared to a video i saw from a few years back. Thanks for the video, the music fit it perfectly.

My two visits to this park were in 1989 for the 4th of July week, and the second and final was in 1996 to have a family reunion. Our visit then was for nearly just an hour.

Oh Wow!! That was cool and kinda creepy at the same time! I was struck at how the world was just going by the ruins of GL when you did the wide shot! Thanks for shooting and thanks for posting...I was there as a kid too!

Great video. My family had season passes every year. At the very beginning that little building to the right of the main entrance is where you would go have your picture taken for your season passes. This is really sad.

It's now a water park with the Geuaga park name.

+Kyle Campbell The water park portion of Geauga Lake " Wildwater Kingdom" opened there two years before the main park was closed. Cedar Fair owns it now, and it's still an (off season) active park.

+pokechatter Yeah I know that just telling the person who asked the question. Most people don't know a waterpark exist and even less people know about it being on the Sea World side.

Hey Marc. Great footage, Thanks for sharing. Like the others, I spent my summers there and Sea World. I remember walking there thru the woods almost every day. I was actually one of the first to ride the X Flight on media day.
