Mr Hooper was a really intense one. I was 8 at the time and not much into Sesame Street by then, yet for some reason I watched it with my mum (in a re-airing, I think - Mum had mentioned he wasn't on any more and probably found out why and about the episode). We were both in tears. I hadn't yet experienced a close death and it was moving and devastating.
Phil Hartman’s death was definitely the most shocking to me. Especially since he didn’t pass from natural causes. He was murdered by his mentally ill wife. News Radio’s writers never recovered as the show’s humor tanked in the fifth season.
John Ritter's death was heartbreakingly sad, everyone always speaks fondly of him. I'm glad "8 Simple Rules" gave both the actors and characters a chance to say goodbye to John and Paul, removing the laugh track and allowing them to express their emotions.
I remember this death especially. I watched this show but liked his acting in general. At the time 8 Simple Rules was one of ABC's top shows. He had been known for decades of course so his death was a shock.
I wasn't familiar with the show, so Bad Santa was his "swansong" for me. Such fabulous comic timing - and all those amazing awkward and discomfited expressions. It's always an Xmas re-watch in my house.

It was an unprecedented and brave decision by the folks at Sesame Street, it was one of the most memorable moments in the show’s history.
What made it stand out was that the adults were actually crying because of how much they missed Mr. Hooper. It just goes to show that adults can cry just like kids can.
@@nevaehhamilton3493From what I read about the behind the scenes of the episode, the actors really were crying, and managed to do the whole thing in one take.
I know 8 Simple Rules is the obvious choice because of the role he played, but the way Scurbs handled Ritter's death was also really well done. JD saying goodbye to his dad and Dr Cox helping with his brother, not gonna lie it's one of the episodes that chokes me up a little.
What made Corey Monteith's passing so much more heartbreaking was that the actress who played his character's girlfriend was his real-life girlfriend So you know filming that episode of "Glee" where Fin had died had to have been especially hard on her, even more so than the rest of the cast
I would like to give a shoutout to Stanley Kamel who portrayed Dr Kroger in Monk. (Monks Therapist) He had a heart attack before the beginning of season 7. His character suffered the same fate too, and was brought up. He'll be missed as well.
Ever since Adam West passed away, I believe that’s when Family Guy started to go downhill. He was the Hero that everyone wanted to see in any unexpected scene. Nobody Messes With Adam We..!
Mayor West and Angela were killed off because Adam West and Carrie Fisher died in real life. It made sense to kill off Mayor West because he was an animated personification of Adam West, meaning no one could replace him when he died
As a Gen X kid, Mr Hooper still hurts. Also, in the ‘80s my mom watched a soap opera called Another World and a popular character named Wallingford died when the actor playing him passed.
yeah we watched Days of our Lives and it was never the same when the actor that played Stefano DiMera passed away in real life. he was iconic as the town villain for over 30 years on that show
What about Jock Ewing from Dallas? Jim Davis died in 1981 and the writers needed to come up with a storyline for Jock’s absence from the show and ended up making an episode to remember Jim Davis
And his portrait was seen in nearly every episode after his passing. Huge omission when you factor in that similar had to be done for J.R. decades later.
When Christopher Reeve died, I was so sad. I loved Smallville and I was very happy he returned to be on it and was looking forward to him being on it more. He was supposed to be on it more than just the two times he appeared. I know he was going to have at least one scene or episode with Annette O’Toole. Smallville is my favorite show ever and I’m so happy he was on it. It also really hit me because I grew up with Christopher Reeve as my Superman as a kid. I had a poster of him as Superman on my wall and him passing away really hit me. It felt like Superman died to me and Smallville was very classy in how his death was handled. R.I.P.
Here is another one I'll go ahead and mention. Joan Rivers. At the time of her death, she had actually become the voice of Francine Frensky's grandmother Bubbe on Arthur, having guest starred to portray her on two separate occasions in 2008 and 2012 respectively. Joan died in 2014, and her death wasn't acknowledged officially until the show's final season in 2022, when Bubbe passed away herself.
Freddie Prinze of Chico and the Man, Redd Foxx of The Royal Family, Zara Cully of The Jeffersons and George Segal of The Goldbergs also died during production of those shows.
Also after Phil Hartman death His characters on the Simpsons Lionel Hutz and Troy McClure while they didn't "die" the characters have been officially retired 😔

At least they didn't put Hershel Greene from The Walking Dead on this list, Because as we all know Hershel's death happened long before Scott Wilson's real life death back in 2018.
@@talesyuki Well now that I think about it, Scott Wilson's last live action role was Hershel before he past a way in real life even though the character was already dead. So I guess on some level it does count.

Ever since I've started watching Family Guy since 2011, Adam West became one of my favorite characters along with Angela. When Carrie Fisher died, my heart just shattered and when Adam West also passed less than a year after her, I just started bawling 😭😭 my eyes out in my room. I love how they paid tribute to the late Batman and Star Wars icons in both episodes of the show. They may be gone but their memories they have given me and many other fans will never ever be forgotten. RIP West and Fisher
I remember when Redd Foxx played a character named Al Royal in the sitcom The Royal Family. During filming, he suffered a heart attack and died. Unlike his famous character, Fred G. Sanford, he wasn't faking it. They did a tribute episode for his character. Shortly after that, the show was canceled.
Bob Saget Died just a few days before My Birthday, I was so Heartbroken I cried like I was in an R-Rated Halloween Horror Movie! I Love Bob Saget, I wanted Him to be My TV Dad on Nickelodeon! R.I.P.😭❤️📺🎶👍🏻
Speaking of NCIS, Gibb's dad, Ralph Waite, playing the senior Gibbs, was a very well established character with some genuinely emotional episodes. Unfortunately, his real-life passing led to his character dying of a stroke. They had a send-off episode for him, with Gibbs passing the torch (Gibbs' store) to his dedicated fellow employee. Edit: Autocorrect changed Waite to White.
Yes. Originally James Garner, friend and mentor to Mark Harmon, was cast as Jackson Gibbs. But he suffered a stroke before production started on “Heartland,” and the role then went to Waite. I think Waite fit the character better.
John Ritter's Paul Hennessy's death of a heart attack was sad because both John and Paul were so sweet and their death (both real and fictionious) was so hard to accept at first.
I know at least two other shows who had this happen: "My Name Is Kat" with Leslie Jordan's passing, and "Power Rangers: Once and Always" with Thuy Trang.
It's Call Me Kat but they didn't kill off his character, they just gave him a rather send off like he went somewhere and leave the bakery behind or smth like that
Jon-Erik Hexum from "Cover Up" was killed on set in 1984. I heard about it before an episode aired with some new guy saying Mac isn't coming back. It was a major shock back then.
John Ritter will also be remembered as Junior's dad in the Problem Child franchise and as the voice of Clifford in the PBS Kids show, Clifford the big red dog.
@@KevyNovaI thought South Park's treatment of Chef and Isaac Hayes was despicable. They were going to do an episode about Scientology. Hayes is a Scientology, so spoke out about it, but the creators fired him and then killed off Chef in humiliating ways. Isaac Hayes was sick and died soon after, yet the show mocked him, rather than thanked for his contribution, simply for standing up to them.
John Ritter's death affected another show as well. Mr. Ritter was also JD's Dad on #Scrubs. In Season 4, Episode 6 titled "My Cake" they paid tribute to JD's Dad Sam. Later in the series, JD's son is named Sam after Ritter's character.
Diana Hyland as "Joan" in the "Eight is Enough" series died from breast cancer during the 1st season so "Tom Bradford" (Dick Van Patten) became a widower, and in the 2nd season "Abby" (Betty Buckley), "Tommy"'s teacher, entered the series as Tom's new love interest (BTW: at the time Diana Hyland was engaged to rising star John Travolta)

How could you leave out the most beloved character from one of the most popular Western series of all-time, Hoss Cartwright on Bonanza (1959-73)? Dan Blocker died unexpectedly after complications from surgery shortly before season 14 was to begin filming, causing production on the season premier to be delayed as the episode had to be re-written, as it's plot was centered around Hoss. His off-screen death is acknowledged in the season premier by the character's little brother Joe (played by Michael Landon, who wrote and directed the episode.) Without its most popular character, ratings took a nose dive and that 14th season would prove to be Bonanza's last.

In my Barbie Basics stories, I made a character named Milena, who is Tie dye Barbie from 1998 and she's an actress and Country music star. Milena tells Barbie and her sisters about her acting trajectory, specially in her time on Glee. Milena always dreamt of being in a musical and she went to the reality show, The Glee Project to be a constestant and she became a finalist and appeared in the show as Lani Johnson, an austistic girl with a good ability to sing and help but the writters didn't do a good job because she was portrayed as a sad and depressed girl and she sung country songs to calm herself down. Milena had few friends and many rivalries on Glee. Milena's friends were Lindsay Pierce, Matthew Morrison and Naya Rivera, who Milena met in her childhood at Toys R Us and acted together in the Bernie Mac show. Milena was jealous about Cory Monteith but when he died, Milena didn't sung If I die young because that song drove Naya Rivera into tears due to Cory's death. Milena wasn't happy on Glee that she left the show in the middle of Season 6, especifically the episode "Transitioning". Milena didn't appear in the final episodes because Beatrice (Milena's mom and I can be movie star Barbie of 2010), couldn't stand the suffering Milena was having and she quit the show forever. But, Milena was still Naya Rivera's friend until the day she died at Lake Piru. Milena saw her corpse and she was really sad that her best acting friend was gone forever. Barbie decided to help Milena but she was in a big depression for not saving Naya at time, until Matthew Morrison as well as Naya Rivera's family helped Milena to value life and be strong and Barbie and her friends helped Milena as well. Now Milena has new friends, specially Halle Bailey, from Chloe X Halle.
One thing I really appreciated and valued on s2 of 8 Simple Rules was showing the process of grief ongoing as they navigate this new world without Paul/John

watching the episode where Mrs. Wolowitz died actually broke my heart. I didn't realize how much I liked her until she was gone.
Especially with what Sheldon says to Howard after he tells everyone the news, which was incredibly hard hitting: “When my father died, I didn’t have any friends to help me through it. You do.”
@@baxteranimations71They were never going to show her face anyway.
Rip Christopher reeve, lee young. My childhood superheroes!
Another one that is memorable to me is Dr. Kroger on Monk when Stanley Kamel died.
“Big Bird, when-when people die, they don’t come back.”
“Ever…?”
(Cue me bursting into tears)
John Ritter's death was very heartbreaking, I watched him on old episodes of Three's Company with my dad when I was younger
I remember Selma from "Night Court"
Adam West Died in June of 2017, Which is The same Month and Year My Grandpa Ed Sullivan Died, I miss Them both so much! R.I.P.😭❤️📺🎶👍🏻
I know his real name was Will Lee, but he will always be Mr Hooper to all of us😢
It’s not the fact Phil Hartman died it’s the way he died that makes it so hard.
Yep it's sad knowing the circumstances behind his death
Josh Ryan Evans from Passions, and his character Timmy also fall into this category.
Exactly who I was looking for!
@@explosionite4 Me too.
Ms. Krabappel's death has been mentioned on The Simpsons several times. She has even appeared as a ghost and appeared in heaven in a few episodes.
Glad someone else said this before me.
Fred Andrews Riverdale (2017-2023) Luke Perry was my Icon with Beverly Hills 90210 enjoyed that to death Riverdale on the other hand was his resurgence regardless of the shows quality I've seen every episode plus his son Jack "Jungle Boy" Perry is my favorite wrestler In AEW
John Ritter's death was seriously heartbreaking, it reminded me how much I miss my mother 😢
People dying from cancer, it’s sad, heartbreaking.
3 from Lung Cancer
1 from Stomach Cancer
1 from Urethral Cancer
2 from Cancer (Unspecified)
1 from Throat Cancer
1 from Leukemia (Bone Marrow Cancer)
Cancer is a bitch indeed. RIP to you all.
My brother, though not famous, died of kidney cancer.
I miss him.
At least they didn't put Hershel Greene from The Walking Dead on this list, Because as we all know Hershel's death happened long before Scott Wilson's real life death back in 2018.
Yeah because it doesn't count.
I mean... Why would they? What a weird, weird comment that was, mr Dragon
@@talesyuki Well now that I think about it, Scott Wilson's last live action role was Hershel before he past a way in real life even though the character was already dead. So I guess on some level it does count.
@@infernocon2334 sorry, I should've said my question was to OP. 😂
But anyway, how would it count? 🤔 Hershek wasn't killed because the actor died, which is the subject of the list. 😅 So confused why he was even mentioned in the comment section at all honestly
R.I.P.😭❤️📺🎶👍🏻
correct me if i’m wrong but I think the Cole from Ninjago either got written off or killed because Kriby Morrow tragically passed
Casting Ralph Waite as Jethro's father was fantastic, as was casting Robert Wagner as Tony's.
Yes. Originally James Garner, friend and mentor to Mark Harmon, was cast as Jackson Gibbs. But he suffered a stroke before production started on “Heartland,” and the role then went to Waite. I think Waite fit the character better.
He also had a recurring role on Bones as Booth's grandfather at the same time.
I’m a 2000s born 90210 fan, and I sometimes forget Luke Perry’s gone 😢
💔
So many, such talent, unfathomable loss😢
John Ritter's Paul Hennessy's death of a heart attack was sad because both John and Paul were so sweet and their death (both real and fictionious) was so hard to accept at first.
You forgot about Josh Ryan Evans as Timmy from NBC’s Passions!
A couple more I'd like to add are Joan Bradford (Diana Hyland) on Eight is Enough, and Albert "Pops" Soloman (George Segal) on The Goldbergs.
I know at least two other shows who had this happen:
"My Name Is Kat" with Leslie Jordan's passing, and "Power Rangers: Once and Always" with Thuy Trang.
It's Call Me Kat but they didn't kill off his character, they just gave him a rather send off like he went somewhere and leave the bakery behind or smth like that
Jack Soo's death and the cup coffee salute that the Barney Miller cast did in his honor.
Hartman's death was hard for the show, they tried to.continue but he was one of the best part of it.
Phil Hartman death still hurts. It sad way ending for so many reasons. Simpsons characters n countless others
I’m so happy that Mr Hooper is added. It made an impact on me about death as a child and it made me see that it’s part of life.
John Ritter's passing was so heartbreaking, 8 Simple Rules cast mourning his loss. Definitely a tearjerker.
I can't believe Chef wasn't here 😭
Chef was killed before Isaac Hayes died.
chef died because the actor left
I'll just comment this again.....for the fans who could relate:
Timmy Turner: "TV's Adam West!"
Catman : "Where?!" "Cracks me up everytime"
They also honored Ritters passing on Scrubs as he played JD's father.
RIP to all of them 🙏
OMG you mention Mr. Hooper 😢😢 his death was hard on gen x, thank you for not leaving him out ✌🏼
Diana Hyland as "Joan" in the "Eight is Enough" series died from breast cancer during the 1st season so "Tom Bradford" (Dick Van Patten) became a widower, and in the 2nd season "Abby" (Betty Buckley), "Tommy"'s teacher, entered the series as Tom's new love interest (BTW: at the time Diana Hyland was engaged to rising star John Travolta)
rising? wasn't he already pretty darn famous when she passed away, man it must suck for John Travolta to lose two of the loves of his life and a son
@@iHeartsNostalgiaPit Guess Diana Hyland passed away during the shootings of "Saturday Night Fever" (Travolta had already been acting in the "Welcome back, Kotter!" series)
All these individuals have given the world a great gift, they will never be forgotten God rest their souls always love.
Correction: Carrie Fisher died of a heart attack, not a stroke. Her mother, Debbie Reynolds, died of a stroke.
why did i decide to watch this, i’m literally crying over half these people who died before i was even born 😭💔
george segal was on the Goldbergs when he passed away. season 9 premiere paid tribute to him
How could you leave out the most beloved character from one of the most popular Western series of all-time, Hoss Cartwright on Bonanza (1959-73)? Dan Blocker died unexpectedly after complications from surgery shortly before season 14 was to begin filming, causing production on the season premier to be delayed as the episode had to be re-written, as it's plot was centered around Hoss. His off-screen death is acknowledged in the season premier by the character's little brother Joe (played by Michael Landon, who wrote and directed the episode.) Without its most popular character, ratings took a nose dive and that 14th season would prove to be Bonanza's last.
I missed mayor west and howard's mom the most. The toast for the
Latter was so touching!😢😢😢😢😢😢
I love the toast scene as well.
Rest in peace to the actors. I was wondering where Adam West was😭
Eveytime I hear or see Peter's speech to Angela it kills me and just remembering that Adam West is no longer here 😢
Especially "Havens gained an Angel" I just start crying
Lists like these make me cry 😢
I’ll never forget John Ritter,
Kristoff St.John,and
Adam West’s deaths hit me the most.
Am I the only one who is missing George Segal aka pops in The Goldbergs in this list?
J.R. was killed off after Larry Hagman left us.
14:19 If Disney ever made a live action version of The Incredibles, I think I've found the perfect Edna Mode!
the Luke Perry tribute is the best episode Riverdale put out in their crazy ass series. My mom who was a 90210 fan cried
One thing I really appreciated and valued on s2 of 8 Simple Rules was showing the process of grief ongoing as they navigate this new world without Paul/John
