F-18 #735, 776, 785 and 767 are stationed at Cold Lake Alberta, Canada. In my mind these pilots are the creme de la creme of Canada's military and I am proud to be Canadian.

Great experience by the look of it. I've only ever seen F18's in at PIK once, maybe about 8 years or more ago. I have slides (anybody remember analogue cameras...?), of a pair and a refueller. They took off the following day, but the weather was terrible, and although I managed to see them leave I could'nt take any photos. My lasting memories of the day are the afterburners and the noise. I've never heard anything like it!

Be sure to post the Canadian Lancaster landing and taking off from there should she be taking that route to the UK. I understand she left Hamilton, Ontario on Monday Aug 4th 2014. So keep an eye out and an ear on the radio for her so you can get some good footage

I think the one to which you are referring (Black marking in the center of the v stab) is the OP Lebiceo (sp) Herme with a sword and shield. They were painted on following completion of the deployment and return home. There were no squadron crests present for active deployment (I removed a few of them myself).
    Cheers

I got a kinetic model kit still in box whenever I get around to it being from Ontario I have a soft spot for the cf188 paint scheme I really dig the two tone grey, also it is such a shame that the Boeing deal fell through for super hornets as they would be the next logical step for a stop gap measure maybe get 30-50 super hornets easy to train existing pilots. Anyway ... great video .

A bit less movement on the camera, or just slow the movement down while zoomed in, and us happy viewers wont get too seasick!!
Great footage though, did you see the series "Jetstream"? Its about some guys training to become CF18 Pilots in the Royal Canadian Air Force. Its really good in HD.

pity those werent the avro arrows we could have had ... and it was a Gen 2 fighter interceptor not a gen 5 like these ... and it was their better back in the 50's ... funniest part in 3 days feb 20 2022 it will be 63 years since they were cancelled from production ... and still NO PLANE made matches their designed specification ... and no plane today can say they dont have some part of the arrow design as part of them since it had 15 of the firsts of fighter jets ... and those are STILL in use today ...
    .
for those who dont KNOW ... the arrow was never PROTOTYPED ... the cook-craige method was direct to product and 37 of them were on the floor ... 6 flyable 5 flew ... and the 5 that flew with the P&W j75 were exceeding expectations by 5% while the ps13 Iroquois engine was expected to beat those engines by 15% as well ... that's right a nearly 70 year old design and it was capable of MATCHING the sr71 in speed AND altitude ... added benefit it was armed and the sr71 was not ...
another fact as of March 19th 1959 the sr71 was still a swept wing design and about to be scrapped then they got about 15 avro engineers in and poof it went from swept to delta and actually passed qualifications ... thats right americans the vaunted sr71 was a success because of Canadian Engineers .. NOT american ... look at the old sr71 footage as its being built in the background of the documentary film you will see avro engineers working on the sr71 ... as they had the experience dealing with titanium and high mach aircraft ...
sadly we had a prime minister who decided his pride was more relevant than a countries pride.
    .
kind of like today when ass hat the clown thinks he IS the law ... he will soon find out he is in for a storm of backlash if he keeps kissing american and rich corporate fanny

I think they arm them once they arrive in Europe. During the air campaign over Libya, the Allied Jets had to take off from bases in Europe, bomb targets in Libya then go back to Europe.
Also, I lived in the Philippines for 13 or so years and while there, Filipino F-5 jets were use extensively in strike missions against Islamist terrorist and rebel groups in Mindanao but when they weren't in action, the F-5s were only seen unarmed with fuel tanks only.
They arm the aircraft's weapons just before they go into action. Not all the time.
Note that Canadian jets were involved in combat missions over Libya so they would have had to be armed (otherwise they're just flying targets for Gaddafi SAMs).

    • @alpearson9158
