  • This is a larger 3d printed pattern with more detail than my original smaller casting. This casting was also done in petrobond rather than green sand which I have mostly used so far.

Great job! I like when there is minimal cleanup on the pieces

Thank you so much. I agree with you having less clean up is definitely a good thing.

Really good job, I didn’t think of the air holes dropping sand either, maybe a final blow out? But good job all round

I have also thought of using bondo with some of my projects.

Looks great, nice work! Agree that looks like some loose sand dropped from your vent holes, did you blow off the cope before you closed the mold?
I think you could eliminate needing to mill the cope side altogether if you gate into the edge of the pattern in the drag and lose the vents. It'll fill without them.
That's how I'd do it, but then I do not have a milling machine so gating through the cope would be a much bigger cleanup job for me. With a mill maybe your setup is easier than having to clean up where an edge gate gets cut off... But you were already dremelling the edges in this video to clean up some flash so...
Well there are many ways to skin a cat of course, and everyone has an opinion, lol. If it ain't broke don't try to fix it. Casting looks great!

Thank you! I agree with you on what you wrote, and there was another comment encouraging me to do the air vents differently also. I also, agree that there are many ways to skin a cat but I am sure some methods are better/more efficient than others. I will be posting another video soon so I will try your suggestion along with some other suggestions that were left on my other videos. I have not been casting until this year so any comments improving my castings I appreciate.
