This Vltimas album is just a whole lot of fun. Doesn’t overstay it’s welcome, gets straight to the point and is so solid. So refreshing to hear David Vincent just killing it after the last few Morbid Angel albums being so disappointing.

I would love a series in this channel that dives into the themes of the lyrics of albums, from the intellectualism to the emotional depth. A big reason I listen to metal is for its intelligence, not because I like gore or believe in the devil and think he's cool. I'm sure there's a lot of metal heads who want a different approach to metal reviews..something to think about

Kind of bummed with no Devin review. Death metal takes priority on this channel and would love to see an equal coverage of all the sub genres. I know they all get covered, but it seems the reviews seem death metal loaded lately. I still love this channel and will watch every review, and I always learn a lot from these reviews.
Devy is miles ahead on the "what do you want us to review in March" poll over on the Patreon page. I guess the fact that it's not that 'metal' of an album is why they aren't actually reviewing it? I would still love to see a Blayne/Gowan tag team Empath review anyway.
i vote for Devin being completely overrated at this point.

Excellent review Sam, but I feel like “Everlasting” and “Diabolus Est Sanguis” are the stand out tracks you feel are missing and IMO “Monolilith” is probably the low point. Dave’s vox are as mean they’ve ever been. Metal album of the year for sure, now take it on the road sell some shirts and record another one next year \m/!!!!!

enjoying this album...kinda see what Sam says about the bass...but the production is growing on me, as it allows the other elements to shine through...and those other elements are excellent...
Definitely the album to beat this year at the time of its release in March 2019.

I listened on a big stereo and thought Dave's bass standed out alot compared to most DM records. Especially with Runes higher riffing.

I have to agree with you on the album as a whole... Great extreme metal album for sure ..one riff that speaks to me is Monolith ... Vincent vocals are the best I have heard in a long time ...and yes I was expecting BASS!!! Where the beef??? And it does seem little short I almost say it is today's version of Reign in Blood ... And can't wait to see this band on the road... I say FIVE SKULLS BANGING EACH OTHER .... Prost

I totally love this record. That's exactly my type of guitar playing, vicious, dissonant and super fast. The bass is there, it's just that Vincent kept it super tight and doesn't stray out of his lane. That's the mark to beat this year imo.

I'm not crazy about DV vocals, just are updated Domination, I dislike his inability of change or bring back the older sound.
A little trivia, Rune actually recorded the bass on this album because David’s hand was bitten by a rattlesnake just prior to the studio sessions. Got this info from David Vincent himself via Instagram.
Vltimas, dream theatre and white chapel best releases of 2019 so far... obscured infinity, misery index, noisem and ossuarium are in the mix too. Sick year so far for sure

Sorry, but this Album doesnt come near touching Nader Sadek's In the Flesh and Malefic, which feature Steve Tucker with Flo and Rune. The fact that its not mentioned is bizarre too

I agree. I think this is an excellent album. My issue is that I saw them play at Mystic Festival Poland. David Vincent is one of the most boring frontmen I have ever seen. They were specifically one of the bands I went to see play, and he couldn't have been more distant. Frankly his demeanour was absent at best.
As a fellow Canadian, I still adore Flo and Cryptopsy.
This album is amazing and one of my AOTY so far. Everyone check it out.

This record is way, way, way better than Kingdoms Disdained. First track impressed me as much as Immortal Rites when I heard it for the first time somewhere in 1990.
