Man, you broke this down exactly like I played it by ear 60 tears ago on my Silvertone acoustic! Haven't played anything in decades now, but this brought me back to my youth sitting on my porch in Georgia . Thanks for the memories! ❤🎉😅
When I was about 11 years old my buddy and I were playing all the Jim Reed songs on our electric guitars and I even had an A harmonica that I played at the same time . We nailed every song Jimmy recorded. I played a Harmony guitar and my buddy played a Fender Telecaster.
Amen, jimmy reed... my favorite... thank you so much for this analysis... great lesson... JR, has some great guitar overdub parts... very cool thx again...
I think you have pretty much nailed it. I don't think it was overdubs as some suggest. It was 3 guitars and probably one or two microphones recorded mono so that everything bleeds into each other (drums, bass and vocals, too) so that it impossible to which guitar player is playing which part. Keith Richards writes in his biography about the early Stones studying Jimmy Reed's style, and he admits he could not figure some of it out.
Because I saw him several times and he was stoned several times to the point that Mama Reed had to sit beside him on stage and make sure he didn't fall out of his chair.@@MsElaineLewis
An interesting thing I heard about this song is that the title is a mistake - the engineer misheard Jimmy Reed. If you listen to the lyrics, you can hear he actually sings ‘Baby why you wanna let go’ - which was the intended title.
There's actually a version of this song on TH-cam with him discussing the title with someone in the studio. At one point Jimmy Reed says "If you want to make it short, say 'Why Let Go'." (I paraphrased as I remember him saying it.)
OMG! I'm so glad you said that! Because this has been bothering me for a long time! I clearly hear "Baby why you wanna let go" and I'm like, Huh? What am I supposed to sing here? Thank you so much for the long overdue clarification!
Uh, in case you are new to this channel, I do leave it up to you to take what I've shown you to figure out the rest of the song - it should be fairly easy with what I have here. If you have a specific question, please ask in a civilized/intelligent way and perhaps I can help you out. What is your motive? Do you want to learn the song, or complain? There's a big difference.
Old School Blues Guitar There is lots of rude people in this world man you should not even take this person serious.I loved your lesson and it is very kind of you to put these videos out for people to learn.
Hey im cal reason hundreds of thousands of followers from england i think this guys way off man so are many .always 2 or 3 guys behind jimmy best find a boogy more like classic lightning hopkins just crank your amp jimmy is always out of synch makes it great this is boring .jimmy only needed to remember where his booze was. I can do them all promis but jimmys is most wacky but great not like this yawn . I play on rear telcaster pickup my amps got a slit 120 dollar blackstar superb but cant nail jimmy perfect .ps i never sell my blues with a personal image and i rose from immense poverty to where i am ok people .
What a jerk. From a published player for 30+ years, the meanness in your comment is evidently why you didn't get anything out of the video...he just showed you a ton of good stuff. The greatest players all have no ego. Strange there are no videos on your page.

Hey Mr. Wizard, I’m 12 years old and I play a Fender Tele too.....I love the BLUES!!! I love Elvis’s version of Baby, What Do You Want Me To Do.
Mr. Wizard Then you woke up and smell the Coffee.😂🤣😂
Wow. You're a very good teacher! Very carefully done, very explicit. Good job!
Ain’t that loving me baby one of my favourites
Mine too. And "Shame Shame".
My favorite Jimmy Reed track. He always sounds so effortless. Great lesson, very clear. Love that hammered e turnaround
This is the best yet. Thank you very very much. You are an awesome teacher.
Much obliged for the lesson, man. A full breakdown of a groovy tune from the great Jimmy Reed!
Thanks for the top notch video. I'm going to play this at my next open mic. Best regards.
Brilliant work man, I think this is spot on. Thanks for putting in the time.
Very cool. Love Jimmy
I like that you mentioned the Bill Doggett tune. That always caught my ear on the Blue Velvet soundtrack, and this reminds me of it.
It’s the great Eddie Taylor playing all the cool guitar parts, behind Jimmy...
I'm TOTALLY jealous of the classic photo collage you have in view. Fantastic!!
They are actually LP/CD album covers.

"Keef" does say in his autobio that for theB chord he plays a single note, so the teacher's observation is quite astute.
the vee jay chess method was some reverb on drum mikes and the bleed of all the mikes for overtones
Thanks. I'm trying to learn this song.
This is a terrific lesson, thank you very much for taking the time to help us all improve? Just subscribed 👍
Thank You Very Much! Easy To Follow You Did A Really Fine Job With This Tutorial, Maybe The Easiest Explanation For Such A Hard Song To Learn🎸
Great lesson man, thank you
Effin love Jimmy
Brilliant, thanks for sharing.
Great lesson, thanks a lot from Grenoble, France :0)
So, the first note, the open 6th E string, comes just before the down beat? And 2nd note, the 5th string, is 1 (down beat)?
A great breakdown of a Jimmy Reed classic.
Quality sir thanks
Joe Pass guitar! I dig Joe Pass music...
Part 1: 0:00- 8:55
Thanks!
Awesome 🤩💃👏...
Jimmy was probably so stoned he didn't know what we was doing himself
Why would you make a disrespectful, gratuitous remark like that when you actually have no idea what you're talking about!
Because I saw him several times and he was stoned several times to the point that Mama Reed had to sit beside him on stage and make sure he didn't fall out of his chair.@@MsElaineLewis
So cool lesson merci beaucoup
What gutair are you playing?

listen man, get a guitar lesson before you start trying to teach guitar and then come back
This is a mean-spirited, fucked up comment. It's not the fault of the lesson if you can't get anything out of it.
