I’ve just done this conversion so a few tips for anyone considering it. The bolts needed to mount the caliper are M14x1.5x40mm. If you use the heat shield you will need to cut a small piece of it so it doesn’t sit between the caliper and adapter bracket. The clearance is also very very tight with 330mm discs so chances are you will get some rubbing if you’re caliper shave been recently refurbished with powder coat.
Just fit a pair of calibers from a Alfa Mito tb/Fiat 500 abarth. A straight fit without any modification or branket/spacers. But only 305 mm and use 305mm disk from gtv v6 with brembo.
I find that cooking oil is great for getting the grime off my hands after working on my bike's oily bits. Any oil will do. I use coconut oil because that's what's in the kitchen. You'll have to clean the washbasin afterwards too just to stay healthy, if you know what I mean.
Hi, first of all thank you for sharing this video. My only doubt is which braided hose brake do I have to buy. My gtv is an 1.8TS 1998 phase2. Thats the only part that I haven´t buy yet and not install the kit, to not have to stop the car twice and redo the oil brake bleed. By the way... also which oil brake did you used. Thank you
I see where the adapter shows to fit GTV/Spider (916) 1.8/2.0 TwinSpark, GTV/Spider (916) 2.0 JTS, GTV/Spider (916) 2.0 V6 TB. Would it not also work on the early 3.0 V6 Spider?
Always great to watch you Neil, but a question, why did you not remove the rust from the wheel hub? Corrosion can cause a wheel to shake under driving. I believe you always should make a smooth surface or am i missing something?
Hi there buddy I'm confused can u plse help me I'm wanting to do this awesome brake upgrade but I want to use the 28 ml disk not the 32 ml Which alfa car model ect disk do I use to do this upgrade
If those 166 calipers are from 3.2 v6 why did you put the distancers on them? Or they are from a 2.5 v6 and you put them to fit on 32mm disc? As it was from a 28mm disc..?
@@ItaliaAutos some come new predrilled like that, you can order from some aftermarket manufacturers by disc size and bolt pattern. It really is not a big deal
Years ago i did a similar conversion , fitting the brembo brakes of a 3.0v6 to a 2.0tb (same brakes ad your ts). Towards the end we had to build a on the spot small alluminium block to attach the abs sensor. You dont seem to have had any issues there... how come?
@@ItaliaAutos would you consider a 1996 an older one? Mine was an after facelift model, with the new sterring wheel snd new front grille. The brake kit came from a scrapped 3.0. Probbaly the difference is linked to the fact that we changed (used donors’ part) the frame where the caliper are bolted on; you used an adapter to fit the calipers on the original frame. Probably thats the key
Hi there Have you converted one for Fiat Punto Evo Multiair Turbo 135 hp ? if so let me know what brembo calipers I can but from ALFA Romeo and match on the punto please ? Thanks Ali
Hello. Great video. How does the master cylinder cope with this modification? I've the mito qv brembos on a 2.5 156 and I'm not happy with the pedal. It's not soft but a bit long and u really need to mash it for power. How did the pedal feel to you after these conversions on standard MCs? Cheers
Do you know of people actually coverting the braking pads to make a calliper fit to a different size brake disk? I've done it to one of my motorcycles. Basically it is a matter of trimming the braking material off the pads where they do not touch the disk surface because this would turn them into restricting stays when the rest of the pad wears off. That might sound like lessening the total surface area but in this case it enabled me to replace a former single calliper assembly with a 4 calliper one. The gain in breaking performance is marked without any negative side-effects like increased fading! The only real downside is that I now alwys have to retool new pads to fit them to the vehicles unique specs before I can put them on.
Was just about to fit these exact brakes (all from a late 156GTA) on my 340hp Fiat Coupe. Great brakes I hear! (Then it all went to dust in a garage fire 2014) I do think that heat shield for the ball joints you removed is a keeper tho..?
Re gloves...I wear mechanics leather ones, not much loss of 'feel' as the leather is thin and they last for ages before wearing through and protect your hands from sharps better than latex. I'm not particularly worried about the grubbiness, more about the alleged carcinogenic properties of all that oil, grease and muck.
@@lindstromcallemedia I had fitted the Brembo grandturismo kit on my ‘98, the main issue is brake clearance, I had straight mutlispoke 17 Alfa wheels and needed 15mm spacers. Gtv wheels have different off set but arch clearance can then be a problem. It’s worth the effort though...

Yep I'm waiting for them to arrive.

That metal shroud isn't a stone guard, it's a heat shield to keep the heat off the rubber boots on the ball joints and to direct some air to the disc.

Hello! If i am right, 330mm disc originally from 159? So, you adapt 166 calipers to the 159 discs?

Where do you get the caliper bracket kit from?
Bit of copper grease on the mating faces of hub and disc, makes it easier for next time, that's what I was taught...good video though..👍
They have an anti rattle pad. They get stuck at the top and bottom on these callipers.
I would have also cleaned the hub before slapping the disc on .
Cos there ain't no anti rattle clip on that 😂😂
Nice video. I have a question how long is caliper pin which is hold break pads or from which car you used yours ? Original not fitting length.
Just ordered 330mm fitting kit
Hi neil. Hreat video. Can this conversion be done without splitting the calipers? If so what disc would i use?
Yes you just have to use the 110 discs.
@@ItaliaAutos sorry. 110 disc?
@paulmurphy4802 sorry meant 310mm discs not 330

What is the torque setting for the bolts holding the two halves of the caliper together?

Made them to fit 330 discs
Usually guys here do 305 or 330 from 159 as they have radial fit and adapters are easier to make. For rotors use 159 rotors and drill them to 5x98.
