North Bengal’s best kept secret 🤫 || Dawaipani || North Bengal -off beat Place

“Dawaipani”, a very new destination in West Bengal, India is very near to Darjeeling town and very far from our hectic city life. The place where one can take the breath on the lap of nature. This village is surrounded by Pine trees and renowned tea estates like Lamahatta Tea estate, Glenburn Tea estate, Takdah Tea estate. Only 135 houses are there in the village. The main attraction of this village is the uninterrupted view of Mt. Kanchenjunga, the clear view of Namchi chardham or Samdruptse Monastery and the Darjeeling town . You will feel like you are somewhere in space when you see the glittering of light of Darjeeling town at night. It’s a fast upcoming travel destination yet a very peaceful place. Situated at a mild height of about 6500 feet, this place will certainly make you feel a lot more refreshed with its crisp n cool air. Dawaipani meaning in local language is ‘Medicated water’, the name derived from local river (Khola) which passes through the village.
Dawaipani area can be reached through Peshok road. For the uninitiated, Peshok road is the one that connects Darjeeling with Kalimpong. The stretch between Jorebungalow and Teesta Bazar on this road is called Peshok Road.
The road itself is quite beautiful and there are small villages along the road. Two such villages are the 3rd mile and the 6th mile. The name of the place indicates the approximate distance from the Jorebungalow crossing. From both the 3rd mile and 6th mile there is a Northbound road that can take you to Dawaipani. The road from 3rd mile is more obvious and difficult to miss. This is also the original road to reach Dawaipani. But the 6th-mile road is more recent, in better condition and the distance is also shorter. However, unlike the 3rd-mile road, this road does not originate at the 6th-mile but is about 500 meters away from the village. Given the desolate area, unless you are aware of the place, it may be difficult for you to identify the road. If you are not traveling on a hired vehicle and want shared transport to reach here, it will require some patience and energy as the route is very less trodden. Reaching Darjeeling by shared vehicle is absolutely easy. From Darjeeling take a shared vehicle toward Teesta and get down either at the 3rd mile or the 6th mile. You can get a vehicle hired from either of these places. From the 6th mile, you may also try walking if you are fit and have a backpack. The entire walk may take an hour or less.
