GREAT podcast! I’m a retired commercial/corporate pilot & the daughter of a former USAF F4 Phantom pilot who ejected 2x. Kegan’s story is fascinating. Wish both of y’all all the best! ❤️🇺🇸❤️
Man, this one was a roller coaster… his redemption getting back into a fighter jet… then down in the dumps, now heading back to being himself… can’t wait to see where he is in 5 years
I was in the VA psych unit and was not allowed out until I agreed to electro convulsion therapy. It was a true nightmare and the worst decision I’ve ever made. Weed for warriors project saved my life and I haven’t touched a pill in over 4 years.
Beautiful interview. Sometimes heartbreaking. Somtimes infuriating. Sometimes humorous. A lot of caring. A lot of sharing. Be well Mr. Gill. Thank you Mr. Stumpf - another fantastic interview.
Unfreakin amazing experience with a dash of luck from the Irish 🍀🇺🇸. So Sorry for your long road back. I’m glad you made it back. (Respectfully mentioned) great movie script. Thank you both for your willingness to serve our country 🇺🇸 🇺🇸God Bless you.🇺🇸
So glad Kegan found help in pshycedelics. I just finished Sean Ryan’s podcast on his journey. Very powerful episode. Please donate to these causes. God Bless our veterans 🇺🇸
USN '96-'04 AME2 (VS-35 & VX-23 ~ E-5 ejection seats, LOX, OBOGS, plane captain, final checker, trouble shooter, QCI, CDQAR, etc.) Good bless that you got out in time, not sure about the PR work. God bless you, your service, and your positive energy Sir.
Holy shit. This guy basically survived a bomb blast (minus the shrapnel) and survived, but sounds like that was the easy part. Man the VA is f*cked up. Praying for Kegan to finish this journey of healing. Semper Fi!
Andy, one of the best podcasts I’ve ever seen. I’m so glad you had this opportunity to share Kegan’s story. My father has been struggling with PTSD his entire life, post service. He had a massive hemorrhagic stroke in 2012 and has been on every drug known to man. My family has been by his side through it all, but I know he has felt so alone through it all too. He has experienced almost if not all the consequences of the incompetence of the VA and the health care system. Hearing his/your first hand account throughout this podcast on how the drugs were the actual problem, coincides with what the old man has gone through to a T. He is thankfully completely weened off everything they prescribed him for the last decade and is doing better at 73 years of age, but I went ahead and ordered the warrior-pak+ for him to try out. Thank you again for all that you do. I’m sure I’ll run into you when you have your grand opening soon. Be safe.
Respect and honor to Mr. Gill! After all the injuries, he should have been given 100% retirement and medical coverage. Let the warrior decide and support them 100%!
I was ATC in Beaufort and we had these guys come down every so often to do some passes in our pattern and I believe even FCLPs, which is simulated carrier landing practice. Given the time frame, I bet I spoke to Kegan or his squadron mates.
Amazing interview. It’s incredible to hear about the stress of what he experienced. A viewer sent this interview to me after I just posted a video on my own channel about this very topic. I can’t imagine what he was experiencing at the moment that he decided to eject from the aircraft. Thanks for sharing.
I always think about this....guys n gals who get wrecked in training, essential excercise, and the daily must do's of dangerous occupations. People never hear about these sacrafices. The bravest part of Military, police, fire.... Is putting on the uniform and accepting the responsibility.
Hearing stories like this makes me feel guilty for the VA rating/compensation I was given for far less impressive workplace/training injuries. I just wanted to service connect my issues because I hadn't even healed when I separated. And so in my later years I was covered if they worsened. The black rifle coffee podcast with MoH recipient Earl Plumlee touched on that point about how the services push people out vs allowing proper rehab time and how Army SF has begun to address how its cheaper to fix broken Green Berets vs. training new ones. Seems like naval aviation also has that mentality.
Wow. If politicians could do just one thing correctly, it should be to fix the quality of medical care at the VA facilities. I would love to speak to Mr. Gill regarding his belief that he is on a registry with law enforcement due to his struggles. He commented that police would know if they checked him. That's not true on a state of federal level. Perhaps through an "in-house" check as a local officer within the community that he resides and they had to respond. Like when they check with dispatch on a traffic stop for any history. But that is limited to that agency. I wish him the best of luck. Great podcast Andy. Thank you, God bless.
Kind of puts a bad day into perspective. What a human being Kegan is! I'm curious how Andy accommodates his guests? Does he pay for travel and put them up for a few days? Or is it one day in one day out? Do the guests stay with him and is it a frat party? Lol... be interesting to know how all the behind the scenes work. If he's already talked about this could someone let me know where I could see it pls? Awesome interview!
Thanks for sharing your story! Wanted to echo my feelings about Prolotherapy. I was lucky enough to meet Dr. Erickson at the Hunter-Holmes McGuire VA Medical Center (Richmond, VA) shortly after retiring from the Navy in 2012. Such a great alternative to the the pain meds and even surgery for a few of my nagging injuries, Prolotherapy has enhanced my quality of life dramatically! It has also slowed and reversed the spurring and calcification in my joints caused by all of the Cortisone Injections given on active duty. I would encourage anyone dealing with nagging injuries, nerve, and joint pain to seek out Prolotheray as an alternative to the meds - in my case, even surgery. Dr. Allison Hickman is now the leading physician at the Richmond VA Medical Center PMR Clinic which offers a variety of non-invasive procedures, including prolotherapy. Also, it sounds like you had the chance to meet Jake Brown while at the trauma center. Jake was one of my students at NAVSCOLEOD while I was there. Good Sailor! Damn lucky to be alive after that accident! Best of luck and thanks again for sharing.
