Hi everyone, in this video I will be spray painting a PS4 controller and adding some special buttons to it.
The first step of the painting process is disassembly. There are 4 screws on the back of the controller that can be removed with a Philips head screwdriver. After removing the screws, gently squeeze the sides of the controller as you pry the back shell away from the front shell. WARNING: Don’t pull too hard though, as there is a ribbon cable connecting the light bar to the motherboard. After removing the ribbon cable, locate the second ribbon cable that connects the touchpad to the motherboard, and disconnect it. Remove the screw holding the motherboard to the front shell, and then take out all of the buttons.
Before painting, make sure to sand all surfaces that will be receiving paint with a fine grit sandpaper (recommended: 220 grit). After sanding, it is time to clean the shells off. At this point, it would be a good idea to put some rubber gloves on to reduce the oil from your hands getting onto the shell. Clean off the shells with some dish soap and water, then let it dry off completely or towel dry with low lint towels.
Prime the surfaces with a plastic primer, and then inspect for bubbles or imperfections (sand them away with some 800 grit sandpaper if you're not satisfied). After the primer has dried, apply the color coats, making sure to follow the directions specified on the back of the paint can. Again, inspect the controller for imperfections, and sand them down if needed. If you sanded anything, be sure to recoat that area with the color paint. Once the paint has dried, use a clear coat that matches the finish of the paint that you used.
Finally, LET THE CONTROLLER DRY FOR 3 DAYS OR MORE (I usually wait around 5 days), and then reassemble the controller. If you don’t let the freshly painted controller dry completely, it will be much more likely to get scratched or smudged during the assembly process.
The buttons I installed have magnets in the backside that allow for interchangeable top pieces that have different heights. It also came with analog sticks, but I did not like the way that they felt.
I hope that this tutorial was able to help anyone that desires more out of their boring PS4 controller. Thanks for watching, I hope you enjoyed :)

ah it hurts to see you take apart the white and magenta one since I just watched that video, but this was a good video anyway, do you mostly work on PS4 controllers or do you work on other things too?

I work on plenty of different things, I’m going to try to get my hands on an Xbox controller so I can paint that too. If there’s anything you want to see then just drop a comment and I’ll let you know what I think
