Thank you for sharing. I grew up in Mid-Missouri. This mall never was a superstar performer, but its decline really got bad in the mid 2000s. Eventually GGP sold it off. Once Farmer Brothers (or whoever the current owners are) got hold of the mall, they did do some renovations to the south-facing entrances (including the one you went into). The (by then long vacated) food court area was also drastically reduced in size...it used to go all the way across to the other south-facing entrance. They also converted a bunch of inline space in the Dillard's and JCPenney's wings into some larger stores, including the Dunham's, Ross Dress for Less, etc. That is why there is that huge giant wall around 3:15 time stamp. Regarding the Sears Brand Central store mentioned at 2:45 time stamp...that was part of the main anchor store and housed the mattresses, electronics and appliances departments. Not sure if their store was always that way or if they added that later. JCPenney's had a very similar arrangement with their home departments, but that was consolidated into the main building when they started shuttering their separate home stores some years ago. Another fun fact. I interned for the Missouri civil service during the summer of 2019. That was a bad flood year, and all the parking lots downtown were underwater for several months. All the state employees had to park at the mall and shuttle buses drove us to the office buildings. Presumably the mall was dead enough that they could spare the parking.
9:40 If you pause it here, KB Toys was once on the left, Sears Brand Central was in the center where that dark doorway is, and the main Sears entrance was where those glass doors at WiPro are.
I've lived in Jefferson City since 1999 and you're correct, Sears Brand Central was just appliances. Refrigerators, ovens, washers, dryers, TV's, etc. You could enter from the Mall (that image you displayed) or from inside Sears itself.
Been a while since I've seen you on my feed, great to catch another video! I moved to Jeff City from STL in 2022, and this is now my closest 'mall' (if you can really even call it that anymore). With how long ago you filmed this, there's been some changes: - the Spirit Halloween at the beginning of the video (0:39) is now the second location of "Vintage Stock", that has comics, collectables, games, etc. - the Subway at 1:13 is now closed. - the Factory Connection at 2:49 is closed. I think it's now some sort of community meeting area? - the black storefront on the right side of the screen at 6:37 is now an arcade - the Trendz and MidMo Conservatory of Dance at 7:17 is now where Spirit Halloween takes over (has been there in 2023/2024).
Omg hi! How have you been man? I’m really glad to hear from you again! Thanks for the update on this place, I’ve heard things have changed quite a bit. I’m glad to hear Vintage Stock is still there, I’m planning on heading down there myself soon, as they have a DVD of Victorious I’ve been hunting for. They did need a bigger location from what they had, and I’m glad they did, I guess they’re successful enough to remain, and having an exterior entrance should improve that
When I was a kid growing up here(roughly 03-09) it was still a pretty fun place. We had hot topic, rue 21(when it was still good) American eagle, Maurice’s, along with a pretty full food court. It’s pretty bare bones now with only 2-3 food options, dying stores such as JCPenney, but otherwise theirs nothing else. The owner charges too much for rent and regardless of the fact businesses come there to die, won’t waive on the rent.
Here's some history of them all that I can remember.💁♀️ 1. Kate jewelry is another store that survived. From the original mall. So they've had a few stores there. That survived the original mall. There are other ones too, but I think they relocated.. 2. There also used to be a gamestop in the mall as well. Meaning I think there were 2 gamestops. Now we just have to walk and buy. Kohl's. Which roey isn't that good?Because the guy that is kind of this disrespectful. 3. There also used to be a theater in the mall as well. It survived a long time. But it was shut down and they built one outside of the mall. I guess in case it didn't work out In the mall shut down. They would have the theater still. 4. And they actually had. One playground. That was bigger and bigger kids can play on It. And not just a little tiny playgrounds, they have now. There was also a weird seat that was shaped like a square. I'm not sure why that was. Even my aunt they didn't know. 5. Right across From the? Playground inside there was also an arcade that shut down really early on. Before they remind the mall. 6. Eventually, they did actually have 2 playgrounds. Before they remind them all and then afterwards the big one gone. 7. There was also a Radio Shack. I can't remember how long it lasted. But when they were announcing we weren't gonna remind them all. I do know it was there and I saw it in a news video. 8. There also used to be an Orange Julius in the mall too. I don't remember where it was exactly but I think it might have been in the area where The pretzel place is now. Because I do remember getting shakestand a lot. That were banana and strawberry flavor they were really good. I love them. 9. This mall has also done a lot of events. Throughout history. I don't know if they did him before or not. I think they did. I just don't remember. But they would do Christmas ones. Halloween ones where people dress costumes. And you would have a Halloween costume thing inside. They would also give you a trophy if you won with a skull on it. I don't remember exactly what the trophy looked like but I thought it was interesting. They'll also do home shows as well. So they do a lot of things. Throughout the year. 10. It's actually open. But you can only go in one way. I guess it's because they don't have enough security but. They could easily just. Use cameras and all that They don't need someone to guard every door. But it's pretty confusing going inside there. I went in there to check it out. 1 day and it was confusing. But as for right now it's open along with JC Penney's and K jewelry. Walt Sears is closed. But I may be wrong. There could be more stores too that survived. But a lot of them I think either shut down or they were re. Located somewhere else, but not in the same spot.. I'm just telling you guys my history with The mall. And what? I can remember of it. Cause it was remodeled over 10 years ago..
Yeah, compared to other malls, this one's not as unique, but it does have movie stores in it. Slackers and v. Stock. There also places where you can buy games. In plush.
I wonder if that center court area(near B&BW, JCPenney, Auntie Anne's, etc), once had a fountain? And yeah unfortunately, this mall has a pretty boring design. I do like the red brick and planters by the ramp/stair area of the hallway, but that is about it. Agreed I wouldn't blame any shoppers who opt for the mall in Columbia, instead. As I noticed you walked by a former American Eagle, and also PacSun. Cant believe Sears Holdings closed both stores at the same time. As in most other cities/towns with more than one store(Racine, WI once having 2 Kmarts, Galesburg, IL having a Sears and Kmart both at Sandburg Mall), the stores were closed at different times. At least in the case of Sandburg Mall(and I recall all the water buckets I saw inside that Sears!), Sears closed before Kmart did. That's shocking Sears Holdings closed both stores at the same time.
Fun Fact: The former Mid Rivers JCP GM was demoted to this store after nearly tanking the Mid Rivers store, obviously the Mid Rivers store js doing much better now after new leadership.
Took year and half to post this? Not bad video though not to long and not to short just right is dying for sure not totally dead yet is decent amount of store's. Mall missing GNC dead mall staple😊

Thank you for all the additional insight!

I wouldn’t doubt if it did have a fountain at one point. I couldn’t find many pictures from over 10 years ago.
I’ve lived in jc most of my life and I don’t recall it ever having a fountain but maybe way back in the day
I lived in Jeff city from 2009-2011 and the mall there seemed depressing back then

If Capital Mall in Jefferson City, MO is a dying mall, then Columbia Mall in Columbia, MO is dead and buried.
This couldn’t have been filmed 2024 because trendz was still there
This was filmed in August 2022
At 0:38 before Spirit Halloween took over the store what was it originally anchored? As
Wasn’t an anchor, it was a Party City.
@@GRM.Adventures wow Party city When did Party city Closed Down?
