I wish instead of the text saying 'from dominion' for all of the cards, you'd listed the expansion they where from - it would have been a lot more useful!
I find that I enjoy cards that are either notoriously weak, or cause me think hard about how to make them work for me. One of my favorite things in Dominion is to pursue non-obvious strategies and try to win with them. This is also typically good because I am often the most experienced player at the table. Conversely, I typically hate cards that simply are great on their own or require you to just buy more of the same ones. Minion and Tournament are a couple examples of ones I hate. The following would probably be pretty close to my top ten, but I love to always play random 10 because I enjoy trying to puzzle out the good strategies from a random set. Bureaucrat King's Court Thief Conspirator Smugglers Menagerie Knights Black Market Horn of Plenty Young Witch
My favorite card is Forge. 7's are cool for obvious reasons, but also I love upgrade cards and this is the ultimate one. You can do lots of interesting math when you play it, and can also toss as many copper and curses as I want for free. My 2nd favorite is Swindler. Turning copper into curses is mean, all the other choices are fun too if there's enough overlap. It's also + 2$, so even wasted attacks of turning estate into estate still doesn't hurt that much, unlike a Thief that hits nothing.
There are exactly 206 dominion cards. 10. Explorer is usually pretty crap- usually when you have provinces, explorer isn't worth buying over duchies, and before that it is usually pretty bad. 9. Trader is alright (although i wouldn't put it at top 10), but i don't know that trashing gold is the best way to go- usually you buy it for trashing estates. Trashing the gold has roughly the same effect as using a mine-and mine isn't that good (in terms of money average, that is). Trashing estates on the other hand nets a much bigger increase, increasing your effective money average about 3x that of trading a gold. 8. Won't disagree here- baker is pretty good. 7. Treasury- It's not promo, it comes from seaside. I'm not sure i agree that it is that great though, and certainly not in top 10 cards in the game. In big money, its bonus is somewhat meager, is liable to be dead drawn from a terminal draw, and likely isn't going to top deck itself that much due to the early province buying. 6. Kings court should not be at number 6. It should be at number 2 or 3. 5. Fishing village- it's alright, certainly one of the better villages, but i wouldn't put it at top 10, not by far- there are plenty of much stronger cards. 4. Mint- how is this on here? It usually is a pretty bad card. Big money can't play it that often, and you don't need that many treasures with an engine (although, maybe if there is a good engine but no trashing, you can use to trash your coppers). Sure, it combos well with fools gold or platinum, but thats pretty much it most of the time. 3. Tunnel- Maybe it scrapes top 10, but certainly is nowhere near top 3 cards (rebuild, KC, mountebank, goons, and a ton of other cards are much better). The main thing about Tunnel isn't it's reaction to other players though; that is far too unreliable (if my opponent starts going heavily into tunnel, i can just not buy militia, then what are you gonna do?) There are certainly interesting combos; cartographer+tunnel, or rebuild+tunnel, or something like scheme + golem + tunnel can net you a ton of gold each turn. 2. Treasure map? I don't even… Just not. Not even top half of dominion cards. Not saying it is useless (it can, for example, jump start an engines economy, and combos well with cards like haven), but certainly not top 50 cards. 1. Black Market… i don't know how i feel about this. I generally dislike it, but i can't deny it is that good, although it is certainly an engine card, and its purchase depends more on what engine is viable in the set. As for my top 10: 1. Goons. Without a doubt, the strongest card in the game. If you can get, for example, 5 in play simultaneously, you can completely ignore provinces and each card you buy will net you 5 VP. Like seriously, i have ended up with over 300 VP from chips at the end of some games with this card. 2. Rebuild. Probably the strongest 1 card strategy in the game. 3. Kings court. It can very easily supercharge any engine, allowing it to play its payload a lot easier. 4. Chapel. That amount of trashing is simply insane. 5. Mountebank. By far the most effective card as an attack in the game. Giving out to each player 2 cards of junk is just ridiculous. 6. Wharf. Not only does this net 4 cards over time, it also lends great consistency to engines. It also works very well in big money; in that style, it is like playing a moat now then a smithy for free at the star of your next turn. 7. Ambassador. Not only is it good for clearing out your deck of starting junk, but it also hurts your opponent! Also, opening double ambassador is the second strongest opening in the game (on average), being beaten only by chapel/mountebank. 8. Masquerade. Not only is this card one of the best enablers of big money, it works very well in engines by allowing you to quickly climb economically and trashing your junk. 9. Jack of all trades. The villain of the infamous "DoubleJack", enough said. 10. Cultist. Almost definitely the second best junker in the game- i mean, seriously, the ability to chain them like labs means that in any game with cultists, the ruins pile will be almost non-existant.
This is a video of Tom's top 10 cards, his personal favorites. Not a list of the top 10 best cards. If it were the top 10 best, it would look a lot different.
I agree with you for the most part, though some cards like KC, Chapel, and Rebuild are too powerful and I usually don’t include them in the kingdom for that reason. I don’t much like Ambassador because I find people just use it to pass everyone’s Curses around and it all ends up for nought. My favourites at the moment are probably: 1. Fortress (especially with Lurker or Bishop) 2. Bishop 3. Tribute (I know it’s weak, but the unpredictability is fun) 4. Sauna & Avanto 5. Sacrifice (especially if you have Ruins) 6. Masquerade 7. Mountebank 8. Cultist 9. Island 10. Ironworks My bottom 10, starting from the worst (excluding removed cards): 1. Possession 2. Sea Hag 3. Baron 4. Haunted Woods 5. Treasure Map 6. Wishing Well 7. Pearl Diver 8. Bureaucrat 9. Beggar 10. Masterpiece I also hate the Wall and Wolf Den events, even though technically they’re quite clever.
I've always been a big fan of the Smithy. Black Market is a lot of fun but my group never likes the unbalanced nature of it. I think that's why it's fun.
thewinner59278 The spy is actually a trap for new players. It's not "bad" but it's not good either.... Disregard the "+1 card +1 action", since it just means you are playing spy for free. The only thing that card does is messing a bit with the top card of every deck...at the expense of losing 4 gold. If you buy 2 or 3 spies, you just lost 8 or 12 gold. At the end of the day, the Spies might slow your game down.
MY favorite is laboratory , the engine is creates early game is so much fun, just draw through your whole deck! its pretty much a Turbo card, however it falls short late game and still help quite a lot mid-game.
Favorite cards is kind of oxymoronic. Usually try to play with fresh cards. Currently: Victory: Fairgrounds Treasure: Hoard Reaction: Beggar( if the game is right) Attack: Legionary & Knights Action cost 4:Tournament& Bishop Action cost 2 : Squire Action cost 6 : Hunting Grounds Action cost 3: Menagerie Least favorite:Chancellor (barely ever bought)
I quite like the wishing well. Pretty good to be able to name a card and then potentially get it if it's the next card on your deck. Especially good when paired with something like spy that lets you examine your top card and put it back.
Im pretty sure Wishing Well requires you to pick the top card and then wish for a card. At least that's how I understand the card and thus it doesn't work with a spy. That being said - I really like Wishing Well as well :-)
I like wishing well cause it forces you to make some interesting decision. For example wishing for a "Estate" cause your turn is already set up and you want to decrease the odds of drawing a brick next turn.
Treasure Map is probably my favorite card...cool to see it on the list, and any duration card could probably be in my top ten, I just really like that mechanic. Would it be at all possible to see a list of your top 10 ten with the expansion they are in?
The Dice Tower No worries if not, I was just curious mostly, I have 2 expansions and am thinking of adding at some point. Thanks Tom, this is a cool idea and I am looking forward to seeing more of these lists (just saw the Cosmic one...smelling a Summoner Wars top factions coming as well although you already kinda did that for the new expansion review) :)
Bret Kelso 10. Explorer - Seaside 9. Trader - Hinterlands 8. Baker - Guilds 7. Treasury - Seaside 6. King’s Court - Prosperity 5. Fishing Village - Seaside 4. Mint - Prosperity 3. Tunnel - Hinterlands 2. Treasure Map - Seaside 1. Black Market - Promo Card I think my personal favorite expansion has to be Prosperity. Big money is a lot of fun. :)
The treasure map, as everything is a double edged sword. If you have Thief and or Vision in play, this card can be actually deadly to you and help your opponents.
I can see why Tom loves these cards from a "Big Money"-player point-of-view :) Treasure map would be maybe "okay" if you got the 4 gold in your hand instead of the top of your deck, but i usually avoid it too. Black Market as #1 is a good and anderstandable choice, i love the variety too (Although it can take some time to set up the board, with all tokens, mats, ruins and so on.. And it can easily overwhelm Beginners) My favourite Card: Apprentice (from the Alchemy Expansion): "+1 Action: trash a card from your hand. +1 card per coin it costs, +2 cards if it has "potion" in its cost." :D
I have this group that whenever I played with them we only had the intreage set I think I spammed torturer so much they decided to ban me from using it
Jay Champagne "Oh no sir, this is no ordinary silver! This was part of Blackbeard's hoard, you see! Very collectible indeed. You know what, you can have if for the cheap cheap price of only 3 silvers, and I'm cutting my own throat here!"
I believe Tom mentioned in one of the Dominion reviews, that he has a separate card of each deck in a separated pile and use those as Placeholder cards instead of usual ones. That way his Black Market deck is always ready to be used.
Rasmus Helms I'd been using the randomiser deck for mine, but that means that you can always see when it's going to turn up, blue back and all. I'd love to have one extra of every card to do the black market properly.
Jonathon Godfrey I use my randomizer deck to _select_ my black market cards, but when I buy one, I pull it out of its supply pack in the box (which solves the "different back" problem). I'm just sure to put the randomizer copy of the bought card in the box so it can't accidentally wind up back in the black market deck.
Jonathon Godfrey Tom doesn't have a extra of every card - he just use a normal card as randomizers, and the ten cards used for kingdoms will be added to the regular game. ... and I too am using the method bvenable78 describes :)
I despise the treasure map. I think it's the only card I ban from my games. It just skews the playing field. It's the one win condition that every player is going to go for, and whoever doesn't manage to get two of them together is not winning. I've tried to ignore it and play around other cards, but it's just too strong.
Not having village in the top 10 is crazy. Lets you draw your entire deck every turn when combined with another draw card. Dont need treasure when you can see your entire deck every turn
Treasure Map is actually my least favorite Dominion card. I usually avoid it at all costs. Every time we've played with it everyone just buys two or three ASAP and then by turn five or six when you only have a 15ish cards its almost certain you end up with two in your hand. If everyone does this it just makes the game go super fast and it doesn't feel particularly enjoyable. Just personal preference, though.
My buddy loves trying to beat me with "rats", has only done it once haha, dominion is at it's best in my opinion when it's very interactive between the players, so for that I love "masquerade"
My favorite Dominion card, hands down, is Nobles. It gives you either 2 actions or 3 cards, and it really works well in multiples. If you just have one of these, it's essentially a Smithy (which is a good card in its own right), but if you start with two or more of these in your hand, you can easily draw your entire deck by alternating between two actions and three cards. The fact that it's also worth victory points is just icing on the cake.
Nice video! But isn't Seaside one of your favorite expansions, wouldn't you know that treasury came from there then? ;) Just joking with you, but you got some interesting choices. I have to agree that Black Market is the coolest of them all though. Would love to see if you have changed your mind after Adventures/Empires/the two update packs has been published.
My List would maybe be like this: 10. Possession 9. Villa 8. Tunnel 7. Golem 6. City Quarter 5. Page/Peasant 4. Gladiator/Fortune 3. Fortress 2. King's Court 1. Black Market Damn, it was so hard to only pick 10
Pro Dominion player here. I'm quite surprised by a LOT of these choices, especially Treasure Map. You might pull it of, i know I did many times buying two or three within your first five turns, but it's just barely worth it and really luck dependant. It's high risk high reward, but it might doom your entire game. Buying silvers in a simple big money strat is usually better... Most of these cards, as some people mentioned are noob traps. My favorites are ambassador, chapel and mountebank. Those three are godlike.
Andrew Gamer if you listened at the end, he specified that although many people ( like yourself ) would make your list based on your strategies, but he made his list based on what cards thinks are the most fun to play.
Treasure Map is TERRIBLE! If that card is out and my opponent buys it, I know immediately that I have won already. The earliest you can even get 2 maps in one hand is turn five, and there is something like a 29% chance of that happening, and it only gets worse as you gain more cards. Chapel, Masquerade, Jack of all Trades, Margrave, and Count are all far better, and those are just the ones I thought of off the top of my head.
The Dice Tower Okay. Done. True true. You picked a lot of my favorites too! I haven't picked up Dominion or several of the expansions in awhile but this video makes me want to get it off the shelf again. Good video. Thanks!
I disagree at all. (Sorry for that. :)) Explorer isn't a Silver that could turn to Gold. It trows many silver in your deck and later some Gold. And silver isn't what you like in the end. If Top cards mean power or fun it's not. Trader: I never played with it, but it seems weak. Again: Silver is not that goog you would like to be your whole deck is made out of it. 4 is a high cost for a reaction. Salvager seems better and gives more options in purchase phase. Baker and Treasury do not enough as a 5-costing -card. Just 1additional card is bad. Treasury is like a Laboratory that always draws you one copper and one random card. Cards that are only good in building up and are underpowerd in lategame like chapel are good, but not for price of *5*. I like King's court is fun to use and to build up combos or to get additional actions by choosing another King's court. Fishing Village is absolutely overpowerd and should cost 4 or 5 to buy, because it is a Bazar in the next turn and even very good in the turn you are playing it. It is so good the first thing that happens in a game with it is everyone buys them till there's none left. A card that is absolutly good in each game seems lame to me. Mint could be fun, but is just to difficult to play effective. In earlygame you actually like to keep copper and in the lategame it just shows up to rare. Mine seems better, because it is insane in earlygame and ok in lategame. Tunnel is that card when nobody buys attackcards which includes discard on it. At least it brings luck in a mostly strategie game. Similar thing with Treasury Map. Two people can so same thing, but receive very differt things. There is a diffrence of drawing 3 action cards with smithy. Having bad luck with smithy is one bad turn, but not dead cards that Treasury could be. Noone like to lose just of being the unlucky person. Black Market bings a big variety and chaos to the game, that could just be unfair. For example a Village in a cardpool that normaly doesn't contains cards with +2Actions on it or just a attack-card that couldn't by the reaction card from the generic cardpool. Everyone like diffrent playstyles. I don't want to reprimand you. It's just my point of view. :) I like cards like Scout(in combination with cards like great hall,...). Chapel is always one card of my deck, and Bishop is awesome. City or Monument are also nice. Outpost, Ambassador and Masquerade are fun. Ironworks is powerfull. And Loan is also fine, when your strategy is about actions and you're not the person that buys always silver in early and midgame. :) O my god. I had never wrote so much in english in a YT-comment yet. Wow :D
This is pretty inaccurate, none of those cards are any good. Use the Qvist rankings to gauge the value of certain cards. A lot of those cards poll low.
I wish instead of the text saying 'from dominion' for all of the cards, you'd listed the expansion they where from - it would have been a lot more useful!
Somebody do this with subtitles or timestamps or something please
@@debnlinda Note the tiny black symbol in the bottom right-hand corner of each card. If you see an anchor it's from Seaside, etc.

7. Mountebank
8. Cultist
9. Island
10. Ironworks
My bottom 10, starting from the worst (excluding removed cards):
1. Possession
2. Sea Hag
3. Baron
4. Haunted Woods
5. Treasure Map
6. Wishing Well
7. Pearl Diver
8. Bureaucrat
9. Beggar
10. Masterpiece
I also hate the Wall and Wolf Den events, even though technically they’re quite clever.
Chill, they’re his faves. He mentions art as a reason for Fishing Village. Have some fun here, friend!
I've always been a big fan of the Smithy. Black Market is a lot of fun but my group never likes the unbalanced nature of it. I think that's why it's fun.
The Chapel, love getting rid of all my rubbish cards.
Easily the most broken card in the game (in any expansion). It could cost like 6 and it would still be an AMAZING card.
The Spy, that little bit of poke and control while being able to replace itself. Just a fun addition to any deck and at the 4 price point
thewinner59278 The spy is actually a trap for new players.
Engines are fun, but when I play with my family and we all play engine decks, the game takes sooooo looooong
A few of my favorite cards are Remodel, Peddler, Governor, Wharf, Border Village, Trade Route, and Mint. I agree with your choices too.
Bridge is an all time fave, I try to sneak it into just about every game! And for a little chaos, I love Goons.
I notice many of these looked like they were from Seaside!
Favorite cards is kind of oxymoronic. Usually try to play with fresh cards. Currently:
Victory: Fairgrounds
Treasure: Hoard
Reaction: Beggar( if the game is right)
Attack: Legionary & Knights
Action cost 4:Tournament& Bishop
Action cost 2 : Squire
Action cost 6 : Hunting Grounds
Action cost 3: Menagerie
Least favorite:Chancellor (barely ever bought)
5. Ill-Gotten Gains
4. Tunnel
3. Border Village
2. Nobles
1. Tournament (by far, the coolest card in the game; I mean, c'mon... no brainer.)
Will we see top 10 Thunderstone cards? I'd love that.
Yeah, i wanted to reply that my favorite Dominion cards are all from Thunderstone :D
I do love the Black Market. My favorite would be either that or Golem. After your HeroScape list I was expecting Possession on here.
That being said - I really like Wishing Well as well :-)
You could do this with a Scout first & put the card you want to choose 2nd to the top.
I like wishing well cause it forces you to make some interesting decision. For example wishing for a "Estate" cause your turn is already set up and you want to decrease the odds of drawing a brick next turn.
A new expansion is coming out soon. This video is six years old. Is there a new updated list from anybody from dice tower?
I like Barons.
I like Pirate Ships.
I like Native Villages.
I hate Embargoes.
Treasure Map is probably my favorite card...cool to see it on the list, and any duration card could probably be in my top ten, I just really like that mechanic.
Would it be at all possible to see a list of your top 10 ten with the expansion they are in?
Maybe. I'd have to hunt down which expansion they are from, though, I don't know off the top of my head.
The Dice Tower
No worries if not, I was just curious mostly, I have 2 expansions and am thinking of adding at some point. Thanks Tom, this is a cool idea and I am looking forward to seeing more of these lists (just saw the Cosmic one...smelling a Summoner Wars top factions coming as well although you already kinda did that for the new expansion review) :)

7. Treasury - Seaside
6. King’s Court - Prosperity
5. Fishing Village - Seaside

3. Tunnel - Hinterlands
2. Treasure Map - Seaside

I think my personal favorite expansion has to be Prosperity. Big money is a lot of fun. :)

Absolutely love Tunnel, but more with self discard combos than as an actual reaction. Things like minion, cartographer. mmmmmm.
Tactician is a very cool card, starting you turn with 10 cards can be great
1:36 I prefer to trash a silver to gain 3 silvers with that one. Always amused to use cards that break the theme.
Doesn't break the theme. He's just a VERY good trader : P
Jay Champagne "Oh no sir, this is no ordinary silver! This was part of Blackbeard's hoard, you see! Very collectible indeed. You know what, you can have if for the cheap cheap price of only 3 silvers, and I'm cutting my own throat here!"
Tom, do you not find it a bit of a chore getting one of each other card in the game out for the Black Market deck? There are so many cards now!
I believe Tom mentioned in one of the Dominion reviews, that he has a separate card of each deck in a separated pile and use those as Placeholder cards instead of usual ones. That way his Black Market deck is always ready to be used.

Treasure map is usually bad BUT if baker is in the game you can open Treasure Map/Treasure Map which is really powerful
I despise the treasure map. I think it's the only card I ban from my games. It just skews the playing field. It's the one win condition that every player is going to go for, and whoever doesn't manage to get two of them together is not winning. I've tried to ignore it and play around other cards, but it's just too strong.
I'm surprised Possession is not here, I thought you were that kind of guy ;)
Not having village in the top 10 is crazy. Lets you draw your entire deck every turn when combined with another draw card. Dont need treasure when you can see your entire deck every turn
Top 10 races from Rex!
Made my day! :)
Black market looks very fun
Well, that was actually Tom's top 9 other cards other than Black Market :)
Some of the cards sound OP lol
No Pirate Ship? :(
Shortbrain one of the worst cards in the game especially in 2 player.
No. 1 - Black Market - and all cards that are not in the standard supply in there :P?
Damn.... again I comment before watching and find exactly the same thing ... haunting!
It's not just a personal preference, its actually one of the weakest cards in the entire game. Buying one is a sure path to losing.
My buddy loves trying to beat me with "rats", has only done it once haha, dominion is at it's best in my opinion when it's very interactive between the players, so for that I love "masquerade"
George Hudson rats are my favorite usually win with them unless someone empties the rat pile too soon
at the moment my favorite card is royale carriage.
RANGER!!!
Nice video! But isn't Seaside one of your favorite expansions, wouldn't you know that treasury came from there then? ;)
Just joking with you, but you got some interesting choices. I have to agree that Black Market is the coolest of them all though.
Would love to see if you have changed your mind after Adventures/Empires/the two update packs has been published.
My List would maybe be like this:
10. Possession
9. Villa
8. Tunnel
7. Golem
6. City Quarter
5. Page/Peasant
4. Gladiator/Fortune
3. Fortress
2. King's Court
1. Black Market
Damn, it was so hard to only pick 10
In my opinion, the best card of all time is the Tactician, from Seaside
No Mine?!
I love castles. "IT'S FUN FOR ME"
Treasury is from seaside
Yeah
I really enjoy Library and Adventurer!!
Favorite cards from Dominion? Well they are now published by AEG in Trains!
my favourite card still is chapel :-)
chapel is awesome to thin your deck. I would always play one in my deck.
King's Court would be my most loved card IF... there were less +action & +card card...
This may need an update soon... :)
By Pro Dominion player do you mean you actually play the game for a living?
Chancellor is the homie
Goons, vineyard, scrying pool and black market are my top 4.
+dusttaker Goons!!
"I love big money strategey, it's fun for me". Just lol
BLACK MARKET is best card for me too :)
8 noob traps, awesome Kings Court and Black Market which usually ok.
I mean there is a treasure map combo that leaves you with a 4 Gold deck turn 4
Treasure Map is TERRIBLE! If that card is out and my opponent buys it, I know immediately that I have won already. The earliest you can even get 2 maps in one hand is turn five, and there is something like a 29% chance of that happening, and it only gets worse as you gain more cards.
Chapel, Masquerade, Jack of all Trades, Margrave, and Count are all far better, and those are just the ones I thought of off the top of my head.
*Sees Explorer ranked as 10th place*
Writes this comment and leaves video. Explorer is awful.
I haven't watched it yet, but Minion should definitely be #1
Remember, I'm not saying these are the most efficient cards, they are MY favorite cards.
The Dice Tower Okay. Done. True true. You picked a lot of my favorites too! I haven't picked up Dominion or several of the expansions in awhile but this video makes me want to get it off the shelf again. Good video. Thanks!
I disagree at all. (Sorry for that. :))
Explorer isn't a Silver that could turn to Gold.
I like cards like Scout(in combination with cards like great hall,...).
O my god. I had never wrote so much in english in a YT-comment yet. Wow :D
This is pretty inaccurate, none of those cards are any good. Use the Qvist rankings to gauge the value of certain cards. A lot of those cards poll low.
hes saying his personal favorites rather than cards that are objectively good.
These cards are horrible. Has this guy ever played Dominion
Yes, and he really likes Dominion. To be fair, he ranked this from what he throught were the most fun to play with.
