    Sir, you are probably the best teacher I have ever met in my life coz ur way of teaching is just awesome...I am not a native English speaker then also I understood each and every word you spoke while teaching unlike Hollywood movies which are so irritating to understand for a non-native person but they could also be understood by practicing...
    Thank you...

      A good trick to improve your hearing comprehension is to put on a native English movie with the English subtitles on. It will probably help with your reading comprehension as well. I usually recommend animated Disney movies because they are usually translated well and into the widest variety of languages, so you can watch them in your own language and understand the story. Then when you watch it in English with English subtitles, you know what's going on. Animated movies also don't have junk in the audio to make it hard to hear, characters rarely speak at the same time, and the pronunciation is clearer. And they won't have things you don't need to know like cussing and antiquated words/phrases. Most Disney movies also have pretty catchy tunes, so you can practice your own pronunciation by singing along.
      BTW when Americans and Canadians say "Disney movies" we are almost always referring exclusively to the animated ones.

    Native English speaker here, and I just want to point out to the people trying to learn English:
    His point about connecting consonants and dropping the sound of the last letters is only somewhat true. He made it seem like we completely drop those sounds in speech, when really they become less pronounced, not always dropped. And this is only true for very fast speech, if you're talking at a normal pace, we would still say "What do you do?" not "wha do you do"
    He's still right, but I wanted to throw that out there so non-native speakers don't go around saying "bla coffee" in restaurants.

    • @betavulgaris7888
      @betavulgaris7888 9 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      +Paige Boda Good post. It's all context, isn't it? If i'm saying for example 'What do you do if your car fails to start?!' I would probably say 'Wha ja do if ya car fails t start.' But if i was saying 'What do you do?' as in asking someone what their job is i will just say 'What do you do?' like normal.
      Best way absolutely is to listen to native speakers speaking naturally. Naturally is so important. Speech from pre-recorded audio from books etc is usually not natural.

      Lol Yeah it is! English pronunciation is really different from my mother tongue. In my case, all the Spanish words sound exactly like they are written. I mean, all the vowels, consonants, syllables and so on. All of them have always the same sounds. However, in English, all the words have their own sound and that is quite random for us.
      Despite this, I like it. English is really trendy and actually it fits lazy people like me because you can say a lot of things with a few sentences (Those who know Spanish will understand what I mean :v )

      English is decently easy to learn :D I'm just thinking about what a nightmare it must be to learn all the genders for every german word... they DO NOT make any sense but are important for the rest of the sentence and if you don't grow up with them, even after Years and Years of living in Germany it's still hard
      E.g. line is female, pants is female, dress is male, skirt is neutral, girl is neutral, tree is male, sky is male, cloud is female, animal is neutral, dog is male, cat is female, horse is neutral, and so on... I feel so sorry for anyone having to learn that and it is one of the very few things I still sometimes accidentally do in English... saying sentences like "nice tree, he's really tall" or "have you found the fork? Can you give her to me" which sound super super wrong in English :D

English is easier than Spanish. Maybe because both Norwegian and English is germanic languages and Spanish is latin? Idk, it's just so hard.

    Good evening Adam. First of all, thanks for these three tips u talk in the video. Although is an interesting information, I think u should specify that u're trying to teach AMERICAN ENGLISH, because this people who's from Europe, Asia or Africa and is getting english lessons, they usually are going to learn BRITISH ENGLISH. I mean, what u're trying to teach to others that want to improve their (american) english level is surely very usefull; you know, for those people who lives in America (I'm talking about the whole continent; Mexico, Colombia, Argentina, Cuba...), but for the rest of them... well, I'm afraid that these particular tips could cost them dear.

      Also we don't talk like this in Canada, it's JUST the US that gets lazy like that. Basically everywhere I have been the norm is to speak clearly and concisely, speaking in the front of the mouth, with the United States being an exception, slurring their words and speaking from the back of their mouths.

    • @Darkrider6970
      @Darkrider6970 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Silatuyok The confusion in the comments section of these videos comes from the fact that Adam is either (1)not a native English speaker, or (2)speaks with an obscure rural accent that almost no one can seem to identify. For a more even representation of what "American" English sounds like, watch American news channels. The majority of the newscasters will speak with a fairly neutral American English accent or a neutral accent with a hint of the region they are from.
      Nevertheless, it's more important that someone learns to speak clearly, accurately, and fluently than to use a specific accent or to "mimic" a native speaker. The best way to gradually learn the subtleties, mannerisms, and usage of slang by native English speakers (which varies by region, ethnicity, and culture)is by immersing yourself in an environment where you'll have to regularly practice your English speaking in a variety of situations with first language speakers.

    I am a native english speaker and I disagree with his pronunciation of "comfortable". The "r" sound is not lost in the way that it is in his explanation of how to pronounce the word. It's usually said more like "comf-ter-bl". Also I and many others don't make the "j" sound with "did you". I pronounce it with the proper "d" sound. Other than that I think this is a great source!

      There's no agreeing or disagreeing when it comes to pronunciations, it depends on your dialect. In the UK the 'r' is not pronounced at all and a voiceless t + y becomes 'ch' and voiced d + y becomes 'j'. Don't know how to type IPA here...

    Since English clearly became the lingua franca of the day I quite do not see why foreign learners should even attempt to immitate the native speech. IT IS BESIDE THE POINT and downright silly and parrotish like. An average learner is more likely to communicate with another learner than a native speaker. Instead of trying to sound supernatural and terribly fluent, learner's time will be better invested in the developement of vocabulary and idiom and collocations. I personally love to listen to clearly non native speakers with their strong national accent talking fabulous English, concise, rich, powerful, accurate. This is what we folks should concern ourselves with - just my two cents in the discussion :-)
