This Cockatoo Won't Go To Bed

- Onni the baby umbrella cockatoo likes to sit on his dads shoulder and nap before bedtime while we both watch tv in bed. Scott fell asleep so I went to take Onni to his bedroom, but this crazy baby had other ideas. He quickly lept into the arms of his daddy and tried his best to hide from me. He doesn't understand that I can still see him when you can't see me!
****You should never ever sleep with any bird. EVER. Results can be catastrophic and even fatal for the bird. In this case, I was in bed NEXT to them and watching tv with them as always. Onni sits on top of Scotts arm/shoulder and when its Onnis time for bed or when Scott falls asleep I take the baby to his own bedroom for his safety. Bird bones are filled with air sacs, meaning they are hollow and fragile. Even a flopping hand/arm can break their legs, wings, etc. So you can imagine if you roll the wrong way, even a little.

***********DISCLAIMER**********: I'm pinning this message because people are not reading the description. Bird's should never, never, never sleep in bed with you (no matter how light you sleep or short the nap is). It will NOT end well for the bird. Scott and Onni aren't sleeping together. Many nights, the 3 of us watch TV in bed. Onni goes to his own bed (his night cage) in his own bedroom shortly after. In this video Scott fell asleep and Onni jumped off of Scotts shoulder and right into his arms. As you see, I retrieved him after catching this adorable moment.
Thanks for catching the adorable moment. It's so precious. I am quite sure Onni retires to his bed every day. Good that you posted disclaimer, anyways...👍
Hello Rebecca, you are right. Sometimes the bird fells asleep as well and if the human is moving it can smash the bird by the weight of its body. My parents have Cockatiel. He is often doing a nap with my stepfather while he is sitting on its belly. When my stepfather is moving half asleep the bird is becoming angry, because the movement is disturbs him, while he sleeps, too.
Yeah, if there's one thing I learned about TH-cam, it's that people who comment almost NEVER remember that the description feature even exist.
U r right about description Rebecca and thanks for pining it.
Body weight can harm the birdies when asleep, without even knowing what happened😢
Your information ist very importent. Thanks a lot.
He's like a toddler. If I can't see you, you can't see me. Makes all the adorable.
Guacamole.
Or just have kids instead of treating ur bird like a baby. I have both a 1yr old boy and a cockatiel so I would know
@@r.nadeau3893 Okay mate. I have two cockatiels and an umbrella cockatoo.
Cockatiels don't behave anything like this 😂
But please. Do carry on. I'm sure your one year old is happy to be in bed with you. Considering it's still a baby.
I'm sure your one year old is great at puzzles as well yeah?
Oh what's that? No? Not that developed yet?
Isn't that strange. Yet my cockatoo can do 4 step puzzles in order to get something they want.
My cockatiels? Well they can't do anything even close.
Pull your head in mate. You have no clue what you're on about.
R. Nadeau bc kids are expensive.
A bird with the intelligence of a 2 year old and the lifespan of a human.
He didn't make a noise. Impressive
i live in aus and do wildlife photography as a hobby
cockatoos don't make much noise in the wild they only screech to alarm their flock of danger i don't normally agree with keeping parrots or even keeping Australian animals as exotic pets but the fact the cockatoo is quiet to me says its very content and well cared for
She did.
Poor husband
I notice form videos that often whispering or keeping a very soft voice at least seems to have them scream a little less. But I may be wrong
@@burgbass my umbrella cockatoo, the same as onni here, only makes noise in her cage when she wants out. Once out, she's just like onni here - really quiet and docile.
Now, depending on the birds personality and what they were allowed to get away with or encouraged is another story. I am not digging on this owner, but look at Max the parrot. He screeches and yells. A lot. His owner is encourages it just by how they interact. He really seems to enjoy those interactions with max. And it is comical.
at first i thought the parrot was talking :DDDD
My cockatiel's a legend. If he gets let out of his cage before I'm awake, and someone tries to wake me up, he'll fly down, land on me and basically attack anyone who comes near. My bird knows how important my sleep is to me.

.... the disclaimer is very real............... when I was in 3rd grade I fell asleep and my bird at that time was walking around the house....... and going wherever it wanted.....and I rolled over and heard a shriek that woke me up... but it was too late.... I never cried so much in my life...my worst memory it must have been so painful for him, being squished by me.....even when I think about it as a grown ass adult almost in my 30's...... it was such a good and smart bird but my stupid ass let it walk/fly wherever and I stupidly fell asleep instead of putting him away. Anyway lesson is: never sleep with a bird, especially if its very attached to you since it may not sense danger when you are rolling over.
Wow... the horror. I cant imagine living with that memory. I'm so sorry.

Marebear not really something to worry about with a cockatoo. A Tornado siren sounds like a miniature music box compared to these birds. Japanese air raid sirens come close to their normal babbling. That exploding comet over Russia would be comparable to the volume cockatoos are capable in a fit of rage.
It's not irresponsible sleeping with them unless you toss and turn.
John Burner let’s see if I remember correctly:
Loss of hearing in humans occurs at
105 decibels.
Jumbo jet take off
130 decibels
It may be only Moluccan ‘tops, but after hearing Umbrellas, Cresteds, Goffins and wow!, Galahs let’s just say
“Many” cockatoos can reach 125 decibels.
Respect.
John Burner I just laughed so so hard at the way you laid out your progression of sound impact!
@@johnburner6739 yeah... Sound has nothing to do with why you shouldn't sleep with them, even an arm falling or rolling over could break it's hollow bones. It's about the bird not dying due to the nature of how fragile they are internally, not about how safe it is to have them squak at you.
