Mill hurts a lot more in hearthstone though. In magic you could have up to 4 of any card, in hearthstone, lots of cards you can only run one of like alexstraza and lots of decks only choose to run one of like druid and their savage roar/force of nature combo. Really hurts if you lose those cards. This poor rogue didn't mill anything important, in fact he got more value from his two saps then he did in the entire mill combined.

Today I play EIGHT of my eleven games against freezing mage (and the other three was against a miracle rogue...), and it was really boring. There is zero pay to win going on. Use a different deck and have fun. Blizzard is changing it with a new expansion. You can solve all the issues with the game yourself by trying different things. The only reason there is no creativity, or skill, is because you aren't using either.
Try out some gimmick decks. Druid where you have all the ramp and nothing else under 6 mana; Warlock based entirely around Void Terror, with Sylvanas and Ancient Watchers and stuff; Randuin Wrynn; Spellpower Druid w/ Moonfire; Mill Rogue and Mill Druid... There's a lot of gimmick decks to keep you entertained for a while. Not forever, though, mind you. They better release a big expansion soon - and not Naxx, I mean a big expansion, not a story mode with a few new cards. Personally I'm hoping the deck building in Magic 2015 will be good. I prefer MtG but it's just such a moneysink; I don't want to spend so much money on MTGO.
Also, it's not like you're buying the legend directly. You need to spend money on packs to have a chance at them. I can literally spend $1,000 and get worse cards than if I opened a pack after doing quests. Most of the people who are doing very well (legend, streamers, etc) are *gasp* good at the game and play a lot of arena. You can't just buy cards and stop sucking.
I wish Trump did more arena again. His stream have been kinda boring lately, at least for me. "Let's do a week of nothing but freeze mage! Let's use two days with just re-streaming another stream!" I really hope he either gets into top 16 or gives up soon. I miss the F2P series and arena runs.
Arena is still being uploaded. The only F2P that he hasn't uploaded is Warlock, back when the metagame was different so it becomes more and more irrelevant as each day goes by.
He actually didn't make it to the top 16, i heard the story is that at one point he was at rank 13 & he was sure he won't be able to keep that spot & then he diedededed many times & did not achieve the top 16.
Thanks for keeping strong with the Mage constructed Trump :) I always enjoy the calculated play this deck takes. This next question is open to anyone that might have already gotten an answer from Trump on stream that I may have missed. If I'm lucky enough to get a response, I'm curious about the variability between Mana Wyrm x2 vs your more recent choice of +1 Acolyte (2 total) and +1 Loot Hoarder. I happen to agree with it as Mana Wyrm draws either removal in the same capacity, or draws cards (which wyrm doesn't), and is also counterproductive to early giants in control matchups (where a wyrm would die to control's early removal anyway).
That's honestly pretty dirty that trump still managed to win that game vs the Rogue lol, especially after initially calling it a bad/subpar play - a LOT of cards got burned and that could have really screwed him (it very nearly did seeing as he lost 3/4 giants + Antonidas)
He called it subpar because it's not a current meta deck, meaning that people aren't deck building to face it and that it's not consistently winning on ladder, proven by him beating it with his freeze Mage. In theory the mill rogue can do a lot of damage in ladder, but it is considered a subpar deck because it's entire Strat is rng based there is no real consistency to it that you look for when going up the ladder. I give him props for going that far, which I'm guessing he did, on the ladder on that deck, but it doesn't make it good, it makes him a good player for knowing how to play as an underdog like that.
I'll put in a positive note about the deck played: I LOVE IT! Giants FTW! I started playing Handlock and this Giantsmage and I just love slamming those 8/8's down for very little mana while controlling the game with spells or finishing with a big damage burst. :) It has some problems in some match ups (1 Healing Touch can really screw you over for example) and isn't overpowered, strong yes, not overpowered. It makes you feel invincible when you win a game with it though! :)
Trump Just a minor mistake in the first game's editing, at 15:04 an Arcane Intellect is burnt but not accounted for on the left. I don't mean to be pedantic or anything, but I saw you mention on another video that you were happy for people to point stuff like that out for you. Other than that, another great vid! :)
Most possible damage in one turn: Priest vs Rogue Mind Vision x2 and Thoughtsteal x2 to yield Preparation x3, Sinister Strike x2, Malygos x1 Turn 9 play Malygos. Turn 10 play: First throw out the Wisp you just drew for fun. Then Prophet Velen, Sinister Strike x2, Smite, Prep, Mind Blast, Prep, Mind Blast, Prep, Holy Fire. 100 damage and a Wisp for Malygos to eat for all his hard work. GG.
I see a few people complaining about Freeze Mage being a bit OP, just load a deck full of silence and it will unfreeze your minions, and lets face it a silenced giant doesn't make a difference to the actual card does it unless you have buffed it. There are ways and means to destroy every deck, and when a deck is created that can't be beaten then Blizzard will nerf certain key cards as they have always done. And anyone who says this game is pay to win please feel free to check out Trumps free to play decks where he goes from new account to Legend rank with out paying for any packs, he's done it with mage and with shaman plus maybe others I can't remember. The secret is to disenchant any cards that are of no use and to craft the cards needed to improve the deck you are using, use in game gold to do arena's and buy the occasional pack.
Man there's a sudden surge of annoying Freeze Mage decks in ranked play right now hahah. I've encountered 4 freeze mages tonight running your exact deck, Trump. --- And all of them completely failed to get anything even remotely close to the combos you're pulling off here. Just goes to show you can't just copy a deck and win with it, you gotta learn how to play it afterall. But hey, I'd still take them over murloc decks.
Alot of people are unhappy with the quantity of freeze mage becuase 'theres no interaction with the other player like Zoo'. I just want to say, i enjoy the freeze mage, and i believe it requires a lot of skill, you have to have to think turns ahead i think it requires a tactical mind. I really dislike the current meta...the matchups? #1 warlock ((mostly) aggro / handlock) #2 druid ( one out of three varying control-setups (teacher, ramp, "normal")) #3 rogue (miracle (mostly) / random pirate rush) #4 mage (freeze (otter pops/giants) #5 all other classes which appear randomly throughout one's journey up the ladder and are (combined) mostly free wins I'm playing the Giant-Mage for some time now (got to rank 3 at the moment) and I just don't know...I feel like all of these matchups amount to the same thing. The draws make the difference. So lately I just think you could call Hearthstone "The Game of Draws". An example: aggro-warlock truly gets countered by freeze mage. I won about 7 games in a row against it. Just to lose to it 6 times in a row after that. Why? Because I drew not.one.single.card.you.need.against.aggro. Or because the warlock got ridiculously lucky with his double soulfires (which he of course had, 20ish cards remaining in his deck) at round 5 - his only way to counter doomsayer+frostnova. Same thing with miracle-rogue or even freeze mage. If the miracle does not happen, meaning your win-conditions are chilling in the very bottom part of your deck, it's just GG (no RE). Finally, one could say, "But it's a CCG...if you draw badly, you just lose." Well I don't think so...The way Blizzard thought Hearthstone should be played is the Arena-way imo. "The battle over board-control"...Not this "Stall until a certain number of rounds to eventually kill your oponnent through a 1-3 round-combo" or "Brainlessly play everything you've got to beatdown the face of your opponent as fast as you can". I know, there is soooooome skill involved, but let's be honest - it's really not that hard. Last but not least I think the current meta shows the viability of the classes in constructed-mode MORE than enough - just start playing with Hearthstonetracker. You'll see it yourselves. Maybe there should be some class-changes, but maybe that's just me. Alright, enough QQ'ing ;). Feel free to discuss though.
You forgot shaman (tempo totem/regular), control warrior and value rogue, probably something else. Miracle rogue is somewhat dependent on getting auctioneer but it really isn't a must if you know miracle well. Also, I think there is a lot of skill involved, obviously not that much in how to do the right plays in the current moment, but to anticipate what the enemy will do and what cards are worth keeping/discarding based on who you might face. Still you will do mistakes every now and then in the current moment too, so long-term consistency is very important, and that can arguably require a lot of skill, especially when playing several games in a row. I personally think that it is a natural development of refined meta to find in almost every deck some fast-kill mechanic. Trying to remove these combos would require removing and modifying countless cards, which would inevitably make the game more boring. I also find it somewhat weird that you say that the current meta isn't about battle for board control but only about stalling although they are the same thing. Every deck in the current meta requires board control and it will probably always be like that. Mages have giants, mirror images and spells, miracle has azure drake, si7 and auctioneer (and spells obviously), druid has big minions and spells, handlock has big minions and spells. Even in arena you "stall" the game with board control until you can directly kill the opponent or boost your minions or afford making the required spells to have lethal. Board control comes in different forms; sometimes it is the sheer amount of minions, sometimes it's big taunts, sometimes a single minion with spell power or some special mechanic. I'm completely sure blizzard knew how this game would evolve and I'm sure they like it this way. The play style in arena exists only because you draft cards randomly and can't find the right cards for combos. The fact that the right card draws still matter is what makes this game so unpredictable and beautiful. Sometimes you draw just the right cards under the right circumstances to unleash something really cool, like in this trump-video when the rogue destroys mountain giants with sap and coldlight oracle. I really don't think your complaints hold any ground.
Spurgu Nisti Sure, there are decks like shaman (tempo/regular), aggro-paladin, etc. But at the end of the day, statistics don't lie. You just don't see 5 of the 9 classes in Hearthstone often enough (in ranked play, I'm not talking about arena by any means). And that's actually what bothers me most about the current meta I tried to describe. See, priest is the best example in my opinion. Priest's cards are mostly just way too situational to be consistently good, whereas the 4 top classes have independently strong cards or playstyles so to say. That's why you'll maybe see one priest over the course of 30ish games. And then you'll crush them. Sure I lost against them as well, but my overall winrate against priest is at least over 80%, if not even higher. Although the priest-problem is not what I was referring to in the first comment, I still think it's contributing to my main point - Class-viability. Well, and since Blizzard didn't change anything about priest at all, except nerfing MC from 8 to 10 mana, because it "wasn't fun to play against it", I strongly believe, that they find priest to be perfectly fine, right? I don't understand the process of balancing a game, I'm just an average-joe after all, but still, it's just too obvious to not see this kind of problem in a game, especially if it's almost affecting 50ish % of the classes.
i've hit legend every season but last, i quit playing out of boredom. But this new meta, that burn deck rogue thing, frost mage, and some of these shamans have re-prompted my interest.
Would replacing any of your novice/acolyte/hoarders with an Auctioneer(or 2) make a positive change? I'm asking because I don't have the required cards for this deck to test it out myself.
I take issue with this deck as well in that you just stall until you have enough burn to kill the opponent. I really feel like freeze needs some counters. Does anyone else agree?
Fjalar Högnason Let's be honest here...every...3 days you'll have 3 quests that at their lowest level will equal 120 gold not including the 10 gold you'll be getting every 3 wins to do those quests. let's round that up to say...150g every 3 days, so roughly every 20days you'll have earned enough gold for the next wing. It's not that hard to do and you'll more than likely have enough gold before the next wing is released anyway...

That's not hard to do. and the options is there to pay money if you want to get in faster. What's all the fuss about? it's a free game, it's not like Blizz are making money by making you wait, is it?
Out of sheer interest, shouldn't freeze mage have a favourable matchup against handlock, as against the massive burn of that deck the lock should have problems getting his health low enough to play cheap moltens?
He didn't technically need to swing with it, as it wouldn't have killed the taunt and couldn't hit anything else. I believed only one swipe had been used, if any at all, so that would have left him extremely vulnerable to a complete board clear. Knowing when to hold back is a pretty big step in becoming a better player. By not attacking he ensured that he would have at least one giant left and worst case it would still hit one of the other minions. In that instance he was even able to swing a second time with a damaged giant at the Ancient and not take any damage on the other giant. Without the Rag rng though I don't think it would have mattered that much. :P

It's called HearthDecker and its a counter that takes 2 screenshots of your deck and merges them into a counter and you manually tick them off. Can be done live but the logistics are annoying so he edits it. It's free, give it a shot mate ;)
How does one even win against this? Run rush? Since you just cycle until you develop ice block into alexstraza. You then probably have 15 damage in hand the next turn.

I'm using mage deck (w/o legendaries) and i'm fairly succesful. Still current meta is both boring to watch (so i stoped) and boring to play against. If i'd ever make up to legendary i would put wisps, mogu'shan wardens and Nozdormu in my deck, because F meta. Oh, and magma rager too :P
Trump i think you should take out a novice and put in another loot hoarder because there is no trade potential with the novice and they basically do the same thing
tbh this game is not "rocket science" its knowing the cards and very basic mathematics. it doesnt have enough depth to be as "intelligent" as some of you think it is.

I just want to say, i enjoy the freeze mage, and i believe it requires a lot of skill, you have to have to think turns ahead i think it requires a tactical mind. I do believe the game needs some tweaking because top end decks are very much the same 3-4. but im happy to watch more freeze mage form Trump

I really dislike the current meta...the matchups?
#1 warlock ((mostly) aggro / handlock)
#2 druid ( one out of three varying control-setups (teacher, ramp, "normal"))
#3 rogue (miracle (mostly) / random pirate rush)
#4 mage (freeze (otter pops/giants)
#5 all other classes which appear randomly throughout one's journey up the ladder and are (combined) mostly free wins
I'm playing the Giant-Mage for some time now (got to rank 3 at the moment) and I just don't know...I feel like all of these matchups amount to the same thing. The draws make the difference. So lately I just think you could call Hearthstone "The Game of Draws".
An example: aggro-warlock truly gets countered by freeze mage. I won about 7 games in a row against it. Just to lose to it 6 times in a row after that. Why? Because I drew not.one.single.card.you.need.against.aggro. Or because the warlock got ridiculously lucky with his double soulfires (which he of course had, 20ish cards remaining in his deck) at round 5 - his only way to counter doomsayer+frostnova.
Same thing with miracle-rogue or even freeze mage. If the miracle does not happen, meaning your win-conditions are chilling in the very bottom part of your deck, it's just GG (no RE).
Finally, one could say, "But it's a CCG...if you draw badly, you just lose." Well I don't think so...The way Blizzard thought Hearthstone should be played is the Arena-way imo. "The battle over board-control"...Not this "Stall until a certain number of rounds to eventually kill your oponnent through a 1-3 round-combo" or "Brainlessly play everything you've got to beatdown the face of your opponent as fast as you can". I know, there is soooooome skill involved, but let's be honest - it's really not that hard.
Last but not least I think the current meta shows the viability of the classes in constructed-mode MORE than enough - just start playing with Hearthstonetracker. You'll see it yourselves. Maybe there should be some class-changes, but maybe that's just me.

You forgot shaman (tempo totem/regular), control warrior and value rogue, probably something else. Miracle rogue is somewhat dependent on getting auctioneer but it really isn't a must if you know miracle well. Also, I think there is a lot of skill involved, obviously not that much in how to do the right plays in the current moment, but to anticipate what the enemy will do and what cards are worth keeping/discarding based on who you might face. Still you will do mistakes every now and then in the current moment too, so long-term consistency is very important, and that can arguably require a lot of skill, especially when playing several games in a row.
I personally think that it is a natural development of refined meta to find in almost every deck some fast-kill mechanic. Trying to remove these combos would require removing and modifying countless cards, which would inevitably make the game more boring.
I also find it somewhat weird that you say that the current meta isn't about battle for board control but only about stalling although they are the same thing. Every deck in the current meta requires board control and it will probably always be like that. Mages have giants, mirror images and spells, miracle has azure drake, si7 and auctioneer (and spells obviously), druid has big minions and spells, handlock has big minions and spells. Even in arena you "stall" the game with board control until you can directly kill the opponent or boost your minions or afford making the required spells to have lethal.
Board control comes in different forms; sometimes it is the sheer amount of minions, sometimes it's big taunts, sometimes a single minion with spell power or some special mechanic. I'm completely sure blizzard knew how this game would evolve and I'm sure they like it this way. The play style in arena exists only because you draft cards randomly and can't find the right cards for combos.
The fact that the right card draws still matter is what makes this game so unpredictable and beautiful. Sometimes you draw just the right cards under the right circumstances to unleash something really cool, like in this trump-video when the rogue destroys mountain giants with sap and coldlight oracle. I really don't think your complaints hold any ground.
Spurgu Nisti Sure, there are decks like shaman (tempo/regular), aggro-paladin, etc. But at the end of the day, statistics don't lie. You just don't see 5 of the 9 classes in Hearthstone often enough (in ranked play, I'm not talking about arena by any means).
And that's actually what bothers me most about the current meta I tried to describe. See, priest is the best example in my opinion. Priest's cards are mostly just way too situational to be consistently good, whereas the 4 top classes have independently strong cards or playstyles so to say. That's why you'll maybe see one priest over the course of 30ish games. And then you'll crush them. Sure I lost against them as well, but my overall winrate against priest is at least over 80%, if not even higher.
Although the priest-problem is not what I was referring to in the first comment, I still think it's contributing to my main point - Class-viability. Well, and since Blizzard didn't change anything about priest at all, except nerfing MC from 8 to 10 mana, because it "wasn't fun to play against it", I strongly believe, that they find priest to be perfectly fine, right?
I don't understand the process of balancing a game, I'm just an average-joe after all, but still, it's just too obvious to not see this kind of problem in a game, especially if it's almost affecting 50ish % of the classes.

I laughed when trump played into the hands of a cheesy mill rogue by going t3 acolyte t4 acolyte and still out-cheesed him with the ice mage.
Would replacing any of your novice/acolyte/hoarders with an Auctioneer(or 2) make a positive change? I'm asking because I don't have the required cards for this deck to test it out myself.
I take issue with this deck as well in that you just stall until you have enough burn to kill the opponent. I really feel like freeze needs some counters. Does anyone else agree?

It's not that hard to do and you'll more than likely have enough gold before the next wing is released anyway...

Out of sheer interest, shouldn't freeze mage have a favourable matchup against handlock, as against the massive burn of that deck the lock should have problems getting his health low enough to play cheap moltens?

He didn't technically need to swing with it, as it wouldn't have killed the taunt and couldn't hit anything else. I believed only one swipe had been used, if any at all, so that would have left him extremely vulnerable to a complete board clear.
Knowing when to hold back is a pretty big step in becoming a better player. By not attacking he ensured that he would have at least one giant left and worst case it would still hit one of the other minions. In that instance he was even able to swing a second time with a damaged giant at the Ancient and not take any damage on the other giant.
Without the Rag rng though I don't think it would have mattered that much. :P

I'm using mage deck (w/o legendaries) and i'm fairly succesful. Still current meta is both boring to watch (so i stoped) and boring to play against.
If i'd ever make up to legendary i would put wisps, mogu'shan wardens and Nozdormu in my deck, because F meta. Oh, and magma rager too :P
