I have had a T100, T120 and now a Triumph Speed twin 1200. The T100 is a wonderful bike. 5 gears spaced perfectly. I did not like the T120 as much because it not as flexible. You have to be doing at least 50 mph to get into top so you are constantly changing down. The Speed Twin is fantastic. The gearing is spot on and will pull in top gear from quite low speed. It is flexible, comfortable and goes like a rocket. I love it !
Thanks for sharing, yes the power is unreal isn't it...really quick! T120 for me. I was really impressed with it. I hope to ride one a again to get a review on it.
Compliments to the cameraman. As usual with Triumph, a very nice looking bike. When you switched it on, I heard TAYM saying brrrr, ding! for the clocks 😂
I owned a vfr800 fi and rode it to a dealer to test ride a newly out Z900Rs. Was totally disappointed, jerky, snatch throttle and close rations meant constant gear swapping. When I got back dealer said try this speed twin demo, something I couldn’t be less interested in that type of bike. However I travelled a distance and thought why not, kill a bit of time then go public for tea. I went out on it and first A road looked down was doing 90😮. I did 39 miles in my hour test and was abs smitten. However the price!!!!!!! Got back on silky VFR and that was it but astounded how much I loved every aspect of the bike
A comprehensive review on a good looking retro bike, ER, although it is badly in need of a tail tidy. When in Bridge a couple of years ago I plonked my chassis on one but soon realised that I didn't fit on too well. The road between Cowley Bridge and Bickleigh is great for checking the handling of bikes although there are quite a few blind corners on the approach to Bickleigh.
Yes the Bickleigh road is superb isn't it. Yes physically the bike is quite small I would say. So it makes sense it didn't fit well for you. Thanks Jim
Interesting one ER I was surprised you found this model so comfortable as when I tried it the sales guy said I quote " you won't be bothered with the T120 when you have ridden this " I was on it for about half an hour and frankly could not wait to get off it . I found it so uncomfortable on my rear and my wrists , which really surprised me as I have never found such issues before I was looking to trade in my XJR1200 which was great , the brakes were great and it and it felt small but very flickable. The power was also superb but when I got on the T120 it just felt so much better brakes not as good of course and my XJR ones were better than the T120 too but the ride was so much better so that's what I went for and am getting used to now and enjoying. but would have liked those Speed twin brakes on it . I do find that when you are trotting on wind is an issue so will need a small screen like my XJR it's small but effective no center stand why? The T120 will need some changes but it's gonna be fun doing it and it's very light compared to my old bike and haven't noticed the slight drop in horses having said that it's plenty quick enough and better on fuel 😉 Ooop's gone on a bit here apologies' for that 👌👍
Hi mate, Yes there was a bit of weight on my wrists. I found the seat OK but as I say I much prefer the T120 in almost everyway. The Speedtwin just went fast and was very "racy" but I feel I would get more value out of the T120 my self. Good to have you're thoughts on it and I think were on the same page TBH. Cheers
It’s definitely in my top five triumphs and one I have a lot of love for it was the bike I begged triumph to build while developing the bonneville T120 ,even tho it’s my nemesis after 960,000 miles without a scratch this bike was the prototype that tried to kill me putting me in a wheelchair for 6 months , so it’s definitely another triumph with my soul blood and sweat 💦 and one I truly love ❤ loved the review bought a lot of memories back 😎👌
Hiya, nice review mate, now this bike is right up my street, but I agree with you I think the Bonny 120 may be the one for me. Take care mate and ride safe.
Good review of the best take on a modern retro. Great engine with plenty of low down torque and character. Even more fun to ride than the old British bikes.😂
I'm not a fan of a lot of dressed up modern bikes but i DO like this! Clean retro lines yet somehow modern. 216 kilos did you say, pretty light for a 1200 i'd have thought? Oh, neat Paul Daniels trick there at the end....... You accelerated away from the layby with all your gear on then...... look! his helmet is on the verge! 😜😉😁 Good review mate! 👍
The engine has great character. I opted for the Thruxton (R) it looks tiny under my 6'6" arse but enjoy the upscale suspension wheels and brakes. It transports my 70 year old body back in time as well as pretty rapidly through the twisty bits
Another good review, I have ridden the 1200 Speed Twin and really enjoyed it, but if I was in the market for a roadster I would go for either the T100 or T120 as they suit my riding style more plus there would be more options for luggage and centre stand.
Great video again. I’m looking forward to your independent, honest review of its younger, smaller sister- the Triumph Speed 400. The 400 is a great looking bike and I am thinking of getting one but there’s many teething issues being reported on Facebook such as kill switch coming on, not starting, engine warning light problems, non-lubricated rear axel and mis-aligned swing arm which is causing wear. As they’ve outsourced the build to a third party I am wondering if the quality control is not so good as when built in Triumph run factories. However, I appreciate those with bad experiences are often more vocal than the many satisfied owners so your thoughts and opinions in a forthcoming review will be welcomed… assuming Triumph lend you one.
Another "Gentleman's Express" 😊. I borrowed one for a few hours when my T100 went in for service. Very impressive indeed! Really good handling and fast too. Suspension a bit firm and throttle response a bit snatchy - but that's not uncommon these days with the over-lean mixture at idle necessary for such tight emissions compliance. Yes, the front end does indeed get very light if you push on in the first three gears! enjoyed it very much, but was quite happy to get back to my bike as I'd be riding like a loon everywhere again - and I'm trying to slow down a bit these days and enjoy the journey adrenaline free lol. The restricted steering lock is a symptom of the upside-down front forks. My Super Meteor had the turning circle of a supertanker. Edit: Try a Thruxton while you can - it's being discontinued 😢
I have a 1200 speed twin ,but the 900 for me is the better engine, how ever at the moment the 1200 is the better looking than the 900. So will just have to keep my 1200.great video thanks.
Loving the cinematic panning shots 👍👍 loving the clocks. But there’s the issue with that bike. Classic in places and not in others. I bet it rides superbly but i find the classic motor v massive radiator, the plank seat v bulbous tank too jarring a contrast design wise. And that brake reservoir? What in all that is holy is that meant to look like? For me it’s not cohesive enough for the price point. But it’s a damned effective tool . A great review 👍👍
Good one ER - always enjoy your reviews...Ive got the T100 and T120 in the back of my mind so very helpful, which one of those did you enjoy more ? cheers
Thanks Tom. it's the 120 for me hands down. I can't get used to the snatch on the throttle of the speedtwin, and the comfort on the Bonneville seats is really good. T120 or 100 you cant go wrong really.
