I watched a video by Sage's Rain that highlights how poorly Atreus treated Sindri throughout the games. He means well, and he's still a kid, but he seriously hurt Sindri time and time again. It's definitely not Atreus's fault, but he did play a major role, and I don't see Sindri moving past that too easily. Especially when the wound is so fresh on his heart.

I feel bad for Sindri and Jack. Jack knows the pain of losing a loved one, and understands that it's difficult for Sindri, even if he is a video game character. 😔
What started as a duo of kinda goofy sidekicks turned into complex characters with a sad backstory, and then ended up giving us a pure gut-wrenching tragedy. Bravo to writing, bravo to acting. And even directing. Bravo GoW.
When you realise Sindri took his gloves off as he was smithing, after him being a germaphobe.... let that pain sit in you for a while. Goes to show you how much pain one endures and how it can influence your character. That is something this game has made so clear and I love it for that. Its a really well made game.

Although they're infamous for their difficulty, the amount of lore and storytelling that they contain is extremely immersive. In addition, despite how hard the game is, the magic of elden ring came from how immersive its open world was, much like BotW's in style, taking what made BotW and turning it into a deeper fantasy setting. The irony is that the Last of Us 2 getting GotY was maybe part of the reason why GoW didn't. The greatest complaint of TLOU2 was that it was TOO narrative, with little game behind it, many calling it a visual novel rather than a game. While GoW is anything but a visual novel, the narrative overshadows the actual gameplay, with the main complaint being that the game is more like an interactive movie (which I personally don't see as a bad thing, but whatever) than a video game. While I believe this is wrong, this is what the critics say. Tbh, I completely expected it. And the outcome was fair in the end. Remember when brok gave Mimir a riddle he couldn’t solve?? “What gets bigger the more you take from it?” Upon his death, Mimir realized he meant a hole, aka Sindri. A very sad attention to detail
I’ve cried to a few video games in my day, this has to be one of the top, the guttural, emotional reaction that sindris voice actor portrays shook me. He did such an amazing job showing loss and the immediate stage of grief with anger. Also the fact I loved Broks character and had spent 2 games with him being the funny comedic relief hard ass, and understanding why him and sindri was on the rocks in the first game. It all just made this scene so hard and for him to tell Atreus that they wasn’t family made it even harder.
A hole…..gets bigger the more you take away…. This scene it hit hard and would have definitely had more of an impact if I played the games but i sadly didn’t but I applaud the acting from Sindri’s side and sonny’s but seeing the peppy and upbeat dwarf become a broken shell of a man is heart breaking
I believe nobody can blame Sindri as he is in the right to be so angry. Gameplay wise it makes sense that the player takes and takes but story-wise, how did they repay him besides with currency? Also in the first game they helped him and his brother to reconnect and one game later he loses him for good, that is heart-breaking. I haven´t played these two games (only watched videos) and from what I can tell is that the story-telling is done amazingly good.
Brok's death broke me but Sindri's pain broke me more. He was so sweet, all the time, so giving. EVERY MOMENT of this game was a masterpiece, even the pain of loss.
I want a spin-off game of sindri learning to move past this. Perhaps even learning and Adding all of broks skills as a blacksmith to his own over the course of his journey.
It’s possible we’re gonna have a spin-off game in the same vain as Uncharted Lost Legacy. Some have speculated that we’d get a spin-off where we play as Atreus, and whether or not Sindri gets involved in the plot is left to be decided, as we won’t know its release date. But I’m honestly hoping the story involves Sindri sending hordes of enemies & closing off Svartalfheim as revenge, maybe Sindri taking younger Kratos’ path of revenge like the previous entries in the series, but that’s just my theory. I’d also like to theorize that the story would have to involve Atreus choosing whether or not to forgive Sindri after all that happened.
This still broke my heart seeing sindri break like this and what’s worse is what he said was the truth and unfortunately he ultimately the reason why brok is gone for good
grief is a powerful emotion, it prevents one from thinking straight and acting logically, he blames Atreus for taking everything from him ( which he's half right but only half ), all of them were fooled by Odin, he also blames himself for his greatest mistake in reviving him without all the pieces of his soul, Atreus isn't at fault for that or for bringing fake Tyr in
If we get a thrird game set in Midgard il willing to bet next tome we see Sindri he'll have blue skin like Brok. Brok got blue skin from touching corrosive metals while smithing. Sindri finally getting rid of his gloves showing that he no longer cares about germs, he might just do it on purpose to honor his brother.
that's a lie sindri told brok, he's blue because he's a corpse, its why the dwarves in svartalfheim avoid him like the plague, they know he's a walking corpse. they know what sindri did and it's why they're outcasts.
@@JustSaiyanDude Corpses turn purple after a while, Brok was probably decomposing for a while. I'd say Sindri made up the metal thing. Look at an image of a dead dwarve in god of war. The look very similar.
@@OmegaPlato I looked it up. We might both be right? Or in a sense that yes he did decompose as you said, but Brok still did work with those metals that turned his skin. Probably just not to the degree of his entire body which would make sense. Unless he just dragged the metal across his body only his hands should be blue. So Sindri told a half truth.
People are mentioning Sindri not wearing his gloves because he doesn't care about germs but it could also be him self harming/not caring if he gets hurt, blacksmithing gloves aren't just to keep clean they're also to keep the heat out and protect your hands from a hammer strike going wrong, Sindri is likely heating the sword he's smithing in this scene bare handed and metal conducts heat so he is likely feeling a painful amount of heat in his hand and if he misses with the hammer he's looking at a broken hand
i remember getting to this scene and just being like: I'm so sorry sindri..... cause he's right, we took him for granted, he gave us so much and brought us into his home and fed us.... he showed us how to use the doorways between realms something only dwarf's had knowledge of what did we ever do for them? did we even properly thank them for all they did for us? they gave us a god killing spear! what did we do to thank them for that?!
Isn’t it crazy that if all the brutal things that happened in god of war, the most brutal moment was this. Watching Sindri go from a happy germaphobic friendly guy no matter what, to this bitter hateful person that has lost all give a fuck for anything and everything. I can’t explain how hard this scene made me tear up. It’s heartbreaking to watch. Truly one of the greatest told character arcs of all time, even though there was no happy ending
Does this mean only 1/4 of brok’s soul still exists hidden somewhere? Maybe the other parts can’t return, but that 1/4th still exists hidden somewhere..
The minute I saw this scene I KNEW it would have strong repercussions for Atreus’ future character arc even as it stands as the peak of the one he went through in Ragnarok. Because yes, nothing about brok’s death was ACTIVELY his fault. Searching for Tyr wasn’t even a bad idea in the long run. THAT plays into the main crux of Ragnarok. That both Kratos and Atreus were right in their wants in the beginning of the game, but also wrong at the same time. Atreus wants to help, wants to do something, knows that they have a role in what is happening, but is too rash, too inexperienced, to young and overconfident and inconsiderate of what war can mean. Kratos wants nothing to do with another world ending prophecy, especially not with his child involved, and would rather hide away and not accept Atreus’ role in what is happening around them. Brok’s death served the purpose of teaching Atreus that innocent people, and people you love, can bear the brunt of war. War and violence bring pain and suffering and loss, even if the motivations for the war are just. Even if what you are fighting for will help more people in the long run, no one escapes the effects of the violence. Atreus was not misguided, but rather blinded by inexperience and his own ideas of what helping should look like. And with the miscommunication between Kratos and Atreus, there was no good opportunity for Kratos to try healthily impart that knowledge onto him, because Kratos was dealing with his inability to let Atreus go and relinquish the control he feels he must have over his son to keep him safe. That struggle didn’t allow him to have healthy conversations about this with Atreus, and in fact only pushed his son further from him, causing a chain of events that led us here, to this scene, to a pain and loss that will be integral to the character Atreus will become. So while Sindri is dealing with his own pain, his own loss, his own shortcomings, and is wrong to place all blame on a child, you can’t really blame him in this moment, and Atreus will not blame him either. Atreus will actively blame himself, because he will take his father’s lesson to heart: “Intent does not matter. Only consequences.” Sindri and Atreus now have a dynamic that is inherently tragic, because they are family ripped apart by pain and violence, which is one of the main ongoing themes in the entire God of War franchise. It’s all just top tier writing and I cannot wait to see where santa monica takes these characters next.
Sindri kind of reminds me of Edward Elric from Fullmetal Alchemist. he couldn't let go and because of it, he lost everything. the only difference between the two of them is Ed was able to undo his mistakes. His story had a happy ending. Sindri's does not. it goes to show that no matter what you believe, no matter what your faith is, or lack thereof, one thing stands true. You cannot cheat death. death is inevitable. it is not easy, but it is necessary. what's gone is gone. you can't bring it back and any attempts to do so will only serve to make things worse on both yourself and others.
Personally i dont think ragnarok was a better game then the original however, brok and sindris parts in the story hit higher heights than the original ever did. They made such an emotional and touching story from two characters who were just supposed to bring levity to the original and gor that i give some respect to ragnarok.
He may not have done it on purpose, but it's still his fault regardless. Atreus tends to do things without really thinking of the potential consequences. Him releasing Garm is a good example. Even Heimdall calls him out on his flaws, and he wasn't wrong. In fact, Odin and Thor wouldn't have shown up at their home if Atreus hadn't been trying to find Tyr, meaning the game wouldn't have even started if it weren't for him. That's why he's Loki.
And as someone else pointed out, Loki’s known for his screwups, which, usually out of recklessness, has caused mayhem or put the gods in some turmoil. With Atreus being GOW’s version of Loki, it’s kinda playing to the myth of the Norse God’s penchant for recklessness.
My theory is that i was thinking maybe Brok lost soul was scattered in Egyptian pantheon... Held by Osiris, it's possible for Loki to travel over there n unleash the souls free including soul of Brok
@@KingSaint007Those are often unreasonable when greiving. That's just how some people mourn. There are 5 stages of grief for the most part but some dwell on staged longer than others. Sindri is stuck on anger for now.
Sin had every right to lash out at Trey cuz if it hadn't been for his ambition recklessness and hard-headedness and ego none of that would have happened this main thing he needed to learn how to listen when people give you advice
At the same time, however, how was Atreus supposed to know Tyr was actually Odin this whole time? Kratos even forgives Atreus because all he made was a mistake. Keep in mind, Atreus was still a young man at this point; you & I were once a bunch of dumb teenagers in our lives, and we’ve made mistakes. Atreus was still attempting to find his purpose too; yeah, he should’ve waited, but it’s been 3 years after Baldur’s death, which was meant to kick off the events of Ragnarök anyway.
@angeryboigaming8562 Yes, but that doesn't change the fact it's his fault. Actions can have consequences, and unlike us at his age, Atreus's have major consequences in comparison. Atreus had plenty of chances to stop and listen to everyone, but he didn't listen. Also, the game dropped plenty of hints that Tyr was Odin. The "walking stick" line when they freed him was a dead giveaway.
I can’t feel bad for Sindri. I mean a large portion of the problems he and brok had ultimately stem from him. And while I understand that grief makes people unreasonable sometimes, Sindri is beyond unreasonable. I mean he was almost even willing to not help during ragnarok because brok was killed by Odin. And I think it’s especially bullshit that not only was he fooled but Atreus was fooled, kratos was fooled, Freya was fooled every single one of their war council was fooled by Odin and his deception. Blaming ANYONE but Odin and himself for broks death is just plain annoying in my opinion. Even if I do fully understand Sindri’s point of view I just can’t feel bad for him because so much of what happened is his fault. But it also makes me appreciate kratos so much more, he doesn’t chastise Sindri for speaking the way he did to Atreus. He literally just looks down upon him and says “mourn how you wish.” Which stings way way way way more because Sindri knows he fucked up by pushing kratos and Atreus away.

This part of the game made me teary especially when he says not even my family, the voice acting in that part is through the roof ,though I think he is being a bit too harsh on Atreus as it wasn’t his fault that he didn’t know it was THAT DOOSH BAG ODIN the whole time poor guy
Grief works in a lot of different ways but sindri was mad at himself because he didn’t collect all of broks soul so now brok can’t join the after life but rather then facing that he wanted to put his anger onto someone else to take away the pain and grief and the blame on himself for hurting brok even though that wasn’t his intention. At least that’s how I view this but I could be wrong just a opinion after all
@@ZooLsTV no... I think u r right sindri is mad at himself for wat he did to his brother back then by bringing him back but without his complete soul parts... he didn't want to be alone but with brok gone for good and sindri having to suffer being by himself with no other way to bring brok back this time he truly was mad at himself
@@tyriquesmith8850 true but give it time and sindri will learn that he cant have his hate grow
No Sindri was right going off on atreus you forgot Odin have been watching atraeus even when the boy thought he was being sneaky and knew what he was up to and let's not forget the boy was hard-headed and full of himself not to think about his choices and action didn't have a consequence and took sindri's friendship for granted and never gave nothing back and because of that ego and is obsession with his own destiny deluded himself and think he can slick a can of oil
I feel bad for Sindri and Jack. Jack knows the pain of losing a loved one, and understands that it's difficult for Sindri, even if he is a video game character. 😔
Everyone knows the pain, feel bad for me to then. Like bro?
@Kevin Malone Well, I feel bad for other people too. I'm just being sympathetic with Jack. I'm sorry I don't know you?
Who did Jack lose?
@@andrewthefanboy1640 his dad
I wont forget the random hate comments on people mocking jack's dad's death
What started as a duo of kinda goofy sidekicks turned into complex characters with a sad backstory, and then ended up giving us a pure gut-wrenching tragedy. Bravo to writing, bravo to acting. And even directing. Bravo GoW.
When you realise Sindri took his gloves off as he was smithing, after him being a germaphobe.... let that pain sit in you for a while. Goes to show you how much pain one endures and how it can influence your character. That is something this game has made so clear and I love it for that. Its a really well made game.
Kratos's "we were" was the only part of the game I flat out cried.
Oof, the tough & painful scene. Poor Sindri, that was a heck of a load of things to take in. Phenomenal acting & V.A Skills, it can be tough to deliver lines like these & be convincing at the same time. War is detrimental, these are just a glimpse how it can be/feel. What a Highlight that was, solid acting 👌 Keep it up & Stay Safe 😎 👊
Beating odin to a pulp was so satisfying
Too bad we can't give him Good o'l Poseidon treatment
Oh yeah, the audacity of Odin to try to trick Atreus one last time during the fight is absolutely crazy
This scene gets me every single time
The music enhances this game so much it’s so beautiful it makes me cry so easily with the themes and the building and the motifs ahhhh and the voice actors wow this game MY HEART AHH
The thing I like most about Jack's reaction to this scene is he feels so immersed, like he was actually there. You can FEEL the guilt radiating from beyond the screen.
What hit me so hard is this is very similar to how I lost one of my friends.. his brother blamed me for protecting me and wanting me to live on he saved my LIFE when I was younger and I lost that connection because of him defending me and I will NEVER forget or own up to what I did it'll hurt until the day I get to see him again.
Well, scene where Brok dies and the aftermath with Sindri's feels and grief broke everyone.
Man, when even Jack doesn't have anything witty to say, you KNOW it hit home.
I love that Jack doesn't just talk over everything, this is how every let's play should be
Poor Sindri, I do hope we can see him find some peace in a later game but it’s not unrealistic if we don’t, some are broken beyond repair
The detail of sindri’s armor being dirty now is very subtle but nice detail of how broken he is now
Scenes like these are Oscar worthy even after ragnarok sindri is still broken. The death of his brother, WHO CAN'T GO TO THE AFTERLIFE BY THE WAY BECAUSE HIS SOUL IS INCOMPLETE. scenes like this, I still don't get why Ragnarok did not get goty
God of War had the better narrative, but as an entire game experience, Elden Ring just edged out, as the quality and depth in it was way deeper.
@@elijahpark5344 may be so, but after the disaster of 2020 with the last of us 2, you'll understand my skepticism about the voting
@@elijahpark5344 plus I never played it cause at first glance it's like dark souls but open world which would turn people off who don't like rage games like them
@@nolanhewitt2563 I think you have a slight misperception of what FromSoft games are like.
GoW literally won every award for narrative and story, but because Elden Ring was more comprehensive as a game, Elden Ring won.
@@elijahpark5344 eh I'll give it a try when a price drops or when I get a bonus around the end of the year. Also, ironic GOW did a narrative of vengeance and justice better than tlou2
I feel so bad for Sindri
Remember when brok gave Mimir a riddle he couldn’t solve??
“What gets bigger the more you take from it?”
Upon his death, Mimir realized he meant a hole, aka Sindri. A very sad attention to detail
notice how Sindri is no longer a clean freak. he just does not care now ! great story telling...
Sindri’s Heart Felt,Sorrow Is Just Hurtin Him,So INCREDIBLY Deep!!😔🔪💔
I’ve cried to a few video games in my day, this has to be one of the top, the guttural, emotional reaction that sindris voice actor portrays shook me. He did such an amazing job showing loss and the immediate stage of grief with anger. Also the fact I loved Broks character and had spent 2 games with him being the funny comedic relief hard ass, and understanding why him and sindri was on the rocks in the first game. It all just made this scene so hard and for him to tell Atreus that they wasn’t family made it even harder.
This scene broke me man…
Sindri went through so much, and just kept smiling…then he lost the only thing he cared for most of all…
A hole…..gets bigger the more you take away….
This scene it hit hard and would have definitely had more of an impact if I played the games but i sadly didn’t but I applaud the acting from Sindri’s side and sonny’s but seeing the peppy and upbeat dwarf become a broken shell of a man is heart breaking
Given that Sean lost his dad and it affected him extremely deeply, I’m sure this was a hard watch for him.
First time I saw this, my immediate thought was "Oh, shit... He's gloves are off... "
I remember feeling so broken seeing sindri like this. And when he reminded us how much we took from him, i really felt like i did him wrong
I’d also like to theorize that the story would have to involve Atreus choosing whether or not to forgive Sindri after all that happened.
man that just made me teary eyed after watching this
This still broke my heart seeing sindri break like this and what’s worse is what he said was the truth and unfortunately he ultimately the reason why brok is gone for good
Sindri was just as fooled... He was just as much a part of it.
grief is a powerful emotion, it prevents one from thinking straight and acting logically, he blames Atreus for taking everything from him ( which he's half right but only half ), all of them were fooled by Odin, he also blames himself for his greatest mistake in reviving him without all the pieces of his soul, Atreus isn't at fault for that or for bringing fake Tyr in
I was genuinely so broken after watching this scene. That voice crack while sindri was speaking🥲
The kindest character for this game didn’t deserve this
I can’t not cry in this scene, it’s the most heartbreaking moment in all of gaming
Nah its cause he's a corpse
@@OmegaPlato ??
@@JustSaiyanDude Corpses turn purple after a while, Brok was probably decomposing for a while. I'd say Sindri made up the metal thing. Look at an image of a dead dwarve in god of war. The look very similar.
@@OmegaPlato I looked it up. We might both be right? Or in a sense that yes he did decompose as you said, but Brok still did work with those metals that turned his skin. Probably just not to the degree of his entire body which would make sense. Unless he just dragged the metal across his body only his hands should be blue. So Sindri told a half truth.
i kind of wanted to see kratos give the spear back, it was made with sindri's ring, brok's spearhead and his blessing...
Adam J Harrington deserves an award for his performance as Sindri in both God of War 2018 and Ragnarok. This scene still gives me the feels.
I always wondering why Brok have Grey skin. Odin ☠️ him twice
2:02 you can see in kratos' movement, even he doesn't want t leave sindri in this state
People are mentioning Sindri not wearing his gloves because he doesn't care about germs but it could also be him self harming/not caring if he gets hurt, blacksmithing gloves aren't just to keep clean they're also to keep the heat out and protect your hands from a hammer strike going wrong, Sindri is likely heating the sword he's smithing in this scene bare handed and metal conducts heat so he is likely feeling a painful amount of heat in his hand and if he misses with the hammer he's looking at a broken hand
That "Mourn how you wish." from Kratos is tough. You can tell he feels bad for Sindri but doesn't appreciate him blaming Atreus at the same time.
I just wanna point out how unmotivated those hammer strikes at the beginning sounded.
I really wish that Atreus could have used his knife soul extraction ability to save Brok but Odin had to ruin that too.
Wouldn't of meant anything. Without the direction of the soul Atreus couldn't redirect the soul bits to the knife
i remember getting to this scene and just being like:
I'm so sorry sindri..... cause he's right, we took him for granted, he gave us so much and brought us into his home and fed us.... he showed us how to use the doorways between realms something only dwarf's had knowledge of
what did we ever do for them? did we even properly thank them for all they did for us? they gave us a god killing spear! what did we do to thank them for that?!
I wish in this part of the game you can't upgrade anymore so us players can really feel the impact of the loss.
I forgot Jack was there for a second
Ahh yes. Jack really reacted in this clip lol
Saying shit isn't necessary for emotion
He's always clean. But here, blood still on armour, no gloves. He doesnt care anymore
Never gets easier watching that scene.
This scene made me cry so hard
Atreus will actively blame himself, because he will take his father’s lesson to heart:
“Intent does not matter. Only consequences.”
Sindri and Atreus now have a dynamic that is inherently tragic, because they are family ripped apart by pain and violence, which is one of the main ongoing themes in the entire God of War franchise. It’s all just top tier writing and I cannot wait to see where santa monica takes these characters next.
IM NOT CRYING!! 😭
You're crying
Sindri kind of reminds me of Edward Elric from Fullmetal Alchemist. he couldn't let go and because of it, he lost everything. the only difference between the two of them is Ed was able to undo his mistakes. His story had a happy ending. Sindri's does not.
it goes to show that no matter what you believe, no matter what your faith is, or lack thereof, one thing stands true.
You cannot cheat death. death is inevitable. it is not easy, but it is necessary. what's gone is gone. you can't bring it back and any attempts to do so will only serve to make things worse on both yourself and others.
Just remembered the riddle brok said
You know a mans broken when he puffs up to the god of war, even if kratos isnt gonna hurt him, it still takes balls
Adam Harrington did amazingly in this scene tho
Personally i dont think ragnarok was a better game then the original however, brok and sindris parts in the story hit higher heights than the original ever did. They made such an emotional and touching story from two characters who were just supposed to bring levity to the original and gor that i give some respect to ragnarok.
I hated to see Sindri changed like this 😔
I hate moments like these. It always feels like a punch in the gut
What have sindri got
No we only u
"Mourn how you wish." Isn't that the same thing Kratos said to Atraus, when Atraus was mourning and through Kratos didn't care?
It wasn’t Atreus’s fault that happened they thought it was a real Tyr it was never his fault they didn’t know
He may not have done it on purpose, but it's still his fault regardless.
But they all warned Atreus not to fool with Odin… and he did, anyway. THAT’S why he was blamed.
And as someone else pointed out, Loki’s known for his screwups, which, usually out of recklessness, has caused mayhem or put the gods in some turmoil. With Atreus being GOW’s version of Loki, it’s kinda playing to the myth of the Norse God’s penchant for recklessness.
RIP Brok😥
So what you can do is get the fuck out of my sight!
Like a trillion needles in my heart!
Mfkers all tough until Sindri says "Not even my family.."
My theory is that i was thinking maybe Brok lost soul was scattered in Egyptian pantheon... Held by Osiris, it's possible for Loki to travel over there n unleash the souls free including soul of Brok
Wait how?
how would that make any sense?
Pls Santa Monica make a game called God of Deception centered in atreus and include a storyline for hin and sindri
Broks death is sindris fault😂
This game deserved goy way more than dark souls with open world
It's also a shame 2018 didn't get one either. Because another banger came out too. Spider-Man. Maybe Sony shouldn't release two bangers in one year
How did Atreus and Kratos suppose to know that Odin was Tyr in disguise
they couldn't have because they didn't know the real Tyr back then
@@fishingmasterstudios9481 but their was no need for Sindri get upset at Atreus and Kratos
The "walking stick" line when they freed him was a dead giveaway.
it wasn't Atreus's fault entirely
i love it when people say "Great voice acting" while every scene is practically motion captured with the real actors.
Poor sindri
this is weird cool and awesome
I still hate the fact that Sindri blames EVERYONE for being fooled by Odin
How was anyone supposed to know the All-Father was in disguise??
Those are often unreasonable when greiving
Makes me wana cry sheat
The Alternates are watching.
i imagine sindri going full kratos mode in the next gow game 😂
This is really painful to watch.
Sindri just might be better than Kratos
