  • Midwest Motor Mites Assn. was a 1/4 midget racing car club that was established in the mid 1950s into the early 60's. The cars were mostly built from scratch, a few were built from kits. The engines were "souped" up single cylinder engines about the same size as a small lawnmower motor. The drivers were the children of the builders. The drivers were divided into two groups, one for the older children (Class A) and one for the younger children (Class B). I was in Class B and was about 6-7 yrs old at the time, my sister was in Class A and was 10-11yrs old. Our car designed and built by my dad. It was all fiberglass unibody construction, a design unheard of at the time. #60 was the Class B Champion and 3rd place Class A in end of year standings 1957. We shared #60 until #59 was made a couple years later. My father built and sold cars and parts to other members in order to defray the cost of development & construction. If you look carefully you may recognize the other cars he built and perhaps some of the parts.
My Father edited this movie which was originally shot on a split 16MM wind up Kodak Cine film camera , probably using Kodachrome Film. The 16mm film was loaded in a lightproof magazine, you would shoot one half, flip the magazine and shoot the other half. The film was processed (by Kodak), split lengthwise, spiced together & loaded on a small movie reel (resulting in 8mm single sprocket movie).
