Couldn't have said it better myself. I loved when these 2 were paired. Just puts me back in our living room, dinner on the table...ahhh. A much happier and certainly a more simple time. 😐
Was a great duo. I'm not sure if Merlin left NBC when his contract was up at the end of the '89 season because he was still upset from being removed from the #1 team w/ Enberg. He should have stayed with Jones/NBC as the move to CBS never felt right....and two years later his NFL TV career was over.
Thank you for posting this. Marty's Arrowhead debut, the beginning of his absolute hatred for the Raiders. Derrick Thomas' coming out party with his first 2.5 sacks. Chris Martin and Dan Saleaumua showing they would soon be stalwarts of that defense, and of course, Kevin "The Rock" Ross. Okoye being the workhorse that got him the rushing title that year, and Steve DeBerg being the field general we loved in KC. Many great Marcus Allen Memories as a Chiefs fan, so it felt weird that I once rooted against him. Carl Peterson getting the area businesses to buy up the last tickets to sell out the stadium to avoid the local blackout early on in his tenure, and seeing OJ Simpson saying that Howie Long didn't play as well as he use to because he went for the cut look were also hidden gems of this broadcast.
32:19 talking about 4th downs and going for it....that has just caught on in the last few years, but they were saying it was starting to change even here. Crazy. Before, it was automatically a fg try or punt ...now, its wide open gambling.
Im 54 years old and ive seen and watched alot of football in my time here on earth and alot of hall of fame inductions and when i see players go into the hall that go in and aren't near as good as #37 LESTER HAYES i get sick at my stomach what a sick joke.
Charlie and Merlin. Two dearly departed legends who make me happy and grateful that I was alive as a football fan when they were here.
FTD flowers.

Charlie Jones had a voice of velvet.
Has those whiskey/stogey singed pipes. The best.
1:09:10 Derrick Thomas's first NFL sack. And the first of his amazing 44 forced fumbles in just 11 seasons.
This is the game where ARROWHEAD as we know it was born. This season opener right here! We are #ChiefsKingdom
That was the Denver game in 1990.
Chiefs turned Franchise around 1989, never has looked back.
Kansas City Chiefs own 4th most wins in NFL since 1989-Prsnt.

Marty & the start of Raiders week & rebirth of football in Kansas City.
As a lifelong Bucs fan, it was nice to see Steve DeBerg taste some winning.
@@rustyshackleford1114 yep, good point. DeBerg was a gamer. He took some fierce beatings.
Thank you so much for this upload.
Real football with huddles and fullbacks
Gotta love NFL in the 80s!!! A whole lot better than today’s game!!
Marty Schottenheimer’s Arrowhead debut

And KC has owned the raiders since the 1990s 49-20.
Think is 43...not 49
I know it's an odd number, cuz of 1991 WC Playoff game between Chiefs vs Raiders.
Chiefs did go (19-3) vs Raiders in 1990s

2:42:21 these two plays sum up Shanahan's Raiders. Ladies and Gents, Rory Graves and Bruce Wilkerson and some stiff named Kerry Porter...
