Saw the Shackletons a lot in the late 60's early 70's living in a village in Notts near RAF Langar where their service/fitting sheds were based at the A.V. Roe workshops.
As a child I used to love the sound of the Shakleton aircraft flying over Findhorn Bay and coming in to land at Kinloss. It was a sad day when the skies fell quiet and the Shakleton were taken out of service.
I spent 3500 hours crewing the grey lady during the 50s&60s. Not the most glamorous or comfortable or the most appreciated but in a good crew the bond was memorable.
Any aircraft with contra rotating propellers will always sound nice! But this aircraft has a sound of its own and only unique to the Shackleton. Boy does it sound awesome and music to my ears
Similar to the tu95 its the contra rotating props, there is a video of a seafire fr47 with contra rotating props doing passes on here the sound on that is gorgeous
Thanks for uploading this video of a truly impressive machine.

Pretty sure I was there, the rain clouds look familiar. We were lucky to have airshows at both Barton and Woodford in those days.

Quality Video! Had you of not said 1991, would've assumed it was a much later air show!
Great video, the sound is awesome!!
Great footage of good time now no more, I used to look forward to the air show and the 2 days before with all the test flights. - good times
The sound!

I thought it was a Lancaster at first
Yes that was the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight....Lancaster, Spitfire and Hurricane.
Was that both a spitfire and a hurricane that was flying around the bomber.?
Ye it’s the Battle of Britain memorial flight
