  • An initial diagnosis of twin-twin transfusion syndrome sometimes turns out to be selective intrauterine growth restriction (sIUGR). www.chop.edu/siugr
Experts from the Center for Fetal Diagnosis and treatment at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia talk about what differentiates sIUGR and TTTS, the different types of sIUGR, the role of advanced fetal imaging in diagnosis, and the development of individualized treatment plans for these distinct conditions.
TTTS and sIUGR are related because they involve the same common shared placenta between the two babies. What differentiates them are the vascular connections and blood flow patterns between the two babies. High resolution fetal ultrasound and fetal echocardiography can find subtle differences in blood flow that can help distinguish between TTTS and sIUGR.
Accurate diagnosis is important in determining the best treatment approach.
