I feel like Layne is SUCH a good beatboxer that people forget....he has a REALLY beautiful voice, just like the rest of 'em. I love it when he gets featured.
Layne did the arrangement for this. It meant a lot to him. He said just listening wasn’t enough. Everyone should sing along with it to really feel the impact of the words.
yes, I agree. They all have an open faced sincerity but it's especially sweet coming from Layne singing. And I have actually come to like how they don't give us a lot of him singing, because it keeps it special 💜
I love this song and the utilization of Layne in this song was beautiful. Obviously everyone in voiceplay is incredible but the natural tenderness to his voice just pairs extremely well with a song like this
This was so beautiful I think you have missed some of the emotion they put into this, Layne in particular had to stop singing at one point because it really got to him and if you look at them all they are affected by it. ❤🏴
I think this was one of the first Voiceplay songs I listened to, because I love the original so much. And getting to hear Layne sing when it's so rare in the older songs? You're absolutely right. There's something about that sweetness of his singing voice that's just so perfect for this song. Also, love the new glasses!
Can't believe you haven't seen this before. It's one of two I always recommend for pure harmony without beatboxing. When do VoicePlay ever do anything in the same old way? LOL
Just letting you know... Voiceplay released their new video on Patreon Monday a week ago and should be released on TH-cam soon. "Valhalla Calling". Sequel to My Mother Told Me. They released a "teaser" shorts video on Tuesday last week. It is epic. Geoff Castellucci released his new video on Patreon this morning. 5 Geoff multiplicity singing a country song. And we get to see Geoff do something he's never done before. It will be premiered on TH-cam April 14th.
I’m a little bit excited for and a little bit scared of that video, Miracle of Sound is such an amazing and somewhat underrated artist that I kinda want him to stand out on his own before his style gets lost in covers
@@davelister2 I hear you. But Geoff will never leave Voiceplay as he is one of the founding members. He was asked that in chat once and he confirmed that. Plus with covers they don't need copyrights as long as it's not for sale like on an album or in the stores. But on TH-cam and the like no. Plus he loves the challenge of adding little twists to make it their own but keeping the original as well. When they were touring and doing any covers they had to have copyrights. Same with their originals. Yes they have several... Road Trip, Chicken Song and a few others I haven't seen. Those 2 are hilarious. He also loves Voiceplay and everyone in it so will never leave for that reason either.
They hadn't intended to get that emotional, but as they went along it just kind of hit them all. Seeing them all tear up was such a Kleenex moment. The harmonies on this are some of the best they've ever done. Beautiful message done by beautiful people. When they did Heart of Life as Earl's goodbye song there is a TON of beautiful background and it's mostly done by Layne. It's hard to isolate without listening to the karaoke version but it truly shows off his amazing voice. I'd love to hear one with him doing most of the front lyrics.
Great reaction! People forget (or didn't know) that until Scott Porter left to pursue acting full time, Layne was the group's baritone. We can hear him in some of the PattyCake original songs, and on his personal channel or IG, as he often sings for his little girl.
That part where they just are singing ooooh in total harmony is so beautiful. I remember when Cyndi Lauper did it and I don’t think I ever listen to the words I just kind of bopped along. But this is gorgeous and the words are really meaningful. The same thing happened to me with Dream On and All that Matters. I don’t think I’ve actually paid a whole lot of attention to the meaning of the lyrics and what the songwriter was trying to say. I just listened in enjoyed it that way. It’s really made me think differently about music.
Thank you Mortius for another great reaction to Voice Play. Their voices are the most Angelic I have ever heard from any a capella group. Layne, OMG absolutely beautiful ❤️
This is such a beautiful arrangement of the song, it always gives me chills when I listen to it. This song just feels like a nice hug and I love that so much. Thank you for the great reaction as always friend!💜
To me this rendition of the song feels like the most sincere hug and I love that, not to mention all of the emotion they put into their singing, especially Geoff's voice gets me because it feels so soft compared to others of VoicePlay's covers ❤
I love how they can do all of the big, crazy 5-part harmonies that you expect, but do them so quietly and intimately that you just want to curl up in the middle of the sound and stay there forever. VoicePlay are the masters of subverting expectations.
Hey Mortius, Just letting you know... Voiceplay released their new video on patreon Monday last week. It is epic. "Valhalla Calling" is their sequel to "My Mother Told Me" they did a couple years ago. They dress up as Vikings. Don't know when its going to premiere on TH-cam yet. Probably Friday but not sure. Geoff Castelucci posted his new video on his patreon this morning. It will premiere on TH-cam April 14th. It is awesome. What's better than one Geoff! 5 Geoff's.
Love this song! In the BTS on Patreon Layne explains how he arranged this song and how they sent camera & light around them. And that the camera had to circle them when they started to sing..."like a rainbow"... its these things that make me happy to be a patreon of VP - I learn to watch and to listen. Btw. also by watching your reactions. Glad you liked this song too!
Please react to Home Free 's cover of Ray Stevens' Mississippi Squirrel Revival. You and Kaz are my favorite reactors and I can't wait for you both to react to this great cover.
Ok, this was flawless. I used to be sick of this song unless it was the cover by the Hooters, but VP just won the prize. This was incredible. Thanks, Mortius! Great review!
You have to react to Beatpella House! Some world class beatboxers just made a group with a singer and they've got their first song Pink Venom out on youtube!
A tentative suggestion given your lukewarm feelings about arrangements of True Colo(u)rs (I'm British, live with the spelling!), but you might like to check out the Ambassadors of Harmony version. The arrangement is fairly traditional barbershop chorus, but visually it gets me every time. You should know going in that it was one of a set they did themed around silent movies, which is why they are all dressed in dull clothing and grey face paint.
@Mortius!! After hearing the new Voiceplay drop I feel obligated to tell you to put many pillows on the floor around your reaction area! Please take care 😄😏
This is a beautiful arrangement. And this is my favorite version of it. However, I don't really like this song, which might be because it got overplayed.
Hmmm…I think I must have missed the original of this, as for me this sounds nothing like the version I thought was the original. That is not meant as any form of disappointment. Just confusion at calling this a traditional version. Can anyone tell me did the original? As I doubt it was Cyndi Lauper from Mortius’ reaction.
Layne's light voice for this song is what you're hearing on "realize" and elsewhere in the song.
The one word i always think of when i hear Layne sing is “sincere.”❤
yes, I agree. They all have an open faced sincerity but it's especially sweet coming from Layne singing. And I have actually come to like how they don't give us a lot of him singing, because it keeps it special 💜
I feel like Layne's voice when he's not doing a bit™ always sounds super vulnerable & that fit //perfectly// with this song
That's the most beautiful version of that song I've ever heard.
I love this song and the utilization of Layne in this song was beautiful. Obviously everyone in voiceplay is incredible but the natural tenderness to his voice just pairs extremely well with a song like this

I like this rendition very much. To hear the soft voice of Layne is precious.

This has never gotten nearly as much attention as it deserves. Visually simple yet beautiful, vocally - perfection. Again. Thanks for reacting.
Absolutely gorgeous, and loved Layne's sweet baritone!!
When has Voice Play ever done an actual Copy of a song, they change it and make it their own.
Can't believe you haven't seen this before. It's one of two I always recommend for pure harmony without beatboxing. When do VoicePlay ever do anything in the same old way? LOL

I firmly believe Vahalla will break reacters even more than Hoist the Colours did. I still get goosebumps every time I listen to it.

Yep. And Nothing Else Matters.
@@candilunsford2878I totally agree with that. It will break Mortius for certain 😂

yes, they DEFINITELY make us think differently about music! And it's wonderful!
Thank you Mortius for another great reaction to Voice Play. Their voices are the most Angelic I have ever heard from any a capella group. Layne, OMG absolutely beautiful ❤️
This has always been one of my favorites of theirs, it makes me tear up every time. It's so stripped down and beautiful
I like the new glasses Mortius! Layne’s voice is so tender and sincere, as is everyone else’s obviously…
I've probably said this before, but your videos always help me catch extra details!

It's truly unique and wonderful.
Hey Mortius! As always, I loved the reaction!!! I also wanted to say I like the new glasses! They look great with the tie!
❤ One of my favourite Vp's its so beautiful 💗
New glasses are nice looking on you.
It was beautiful and well done. True cover 🙂
😢every time I listen to this song I cry....just can't help myself....thanks for analysing this one.....🥲
Fantastic! I would love to be a fly on the wall in the same room with Cyndi Lauper while she heard it for the first time.

Hello Mortius, nice new glasses 🤓
What do you think of the Elmer Fudd version?
Is this lovely or what?
This is a beautiful arrangement. And this is my favorite version of it. However, I don't really like this song, which might be because it got overplayed.

It's taken from both Cyndi Lauper's version and the version from, I believe, the second Trolls movie.
And Cyndi has been known to do it a capella, if you didn't know.
I've heard the Phil Collins version. I'm not sure which is the original.
@@maskedmallard537 Cyndi is the original
