You can actually use any foot that is wide enough to move the needle to the right and keep your fabric fully between the foot and feed dogs. I think it keeps your fabrics on the straight and narrow. The better foot for piecing is the 97D. It is like the 37 but built for the 9 mm throat plate machines and offers the ability to engage the even feed piece behind the foot. I'm in love with it! (and thrilled I have a new 790Pro!)
