Shuriken, which literally means “hand-hidden blade,” was one of the hidden weapons that the samurai used as a supplement to other weapons, such as bows and arrows and swords.

Did you know the 'Ninja throwing stars' were not really used by Ninjas?
Really?! Thought Samurai didn't use them during that time?
Simple History that’s cool
Its used by weebs
Simple Histoy who? The samurai?
Pretty sure ninjas did use them at least a little, just like with bows and gunpowder..
Though yeah, Samurai using shuriken is really rarely known

History Channel: Ninjas were oppressed farmers who fought Samurai
History TH-camrs: Actually Ninjas were Samurai who specialized in covert ops
Which is true?
@@SportsFan824 both seems to click nicely, probably "better" ninjas are the samurais who do covert ops and the "less better" ninjas are farmers spying, public assassinating and secret messengers.
I mean nothing is purely impossible and the probability is still there.
I don't know, I think the youtubers, History Channel was always more entertainment than history with their Ancient Aliens and Pawn Stars.
Ninjas were mercenaries who specialized in espionage and other black ops. Some were loyal to a certain house, while others were freelancers.
@Ninjiango From what I have seen on various documentaries. Both are true.

Butters almost lost an eye from one of those.
I'm glad to see someone classify them correctly as primarily being samurai backup weapons instead of the classic stealthy badass "ninja stars" most people refer to them as today. This is why I'm subscribed.

Sure we can!

Ninja with a shuriken: _Mission failed we’ll get em next time_
No man a "sniper" rifle like a awp can fucking kill u from 2000 meters away aka 1 and a half go 2 miles
first yeah,i don't know the limit of range in modern rifles, they can go to miles, but i don't know if they can reach to 9000 yards.
@@maximilianolimamoreira5002 maybe not conventional rifles maybe an anti tank rifle aka 20-25 mm rifles but 5 miles is a distance I'd just call an artillery strike or air strike at that point.
@@grindkagethefirst5975 i personally haven't heard of an awp making that distance but a Barret I've heard of making that distance. Actually funny enough some guy used an m2 browning as a sniper and killed someone at 2,280 meters.

We used to make those at home when we were kids, and practice throwing them. We were careful with them, never regarded them as “toys”, we knew better than that. But then one stupid kid two towns over from us got injured from a wheel shuriken, so all martial arts weapons were banned less than a year later in my [former] state.
Did his friends try to dress him up like a dog and take him to a veterinarian so that they all wouldn’t be grounded?

You guys really topped yourselves on this one, much love!
You should do battle of Sekigahara. Most sources in the US show smaller numbers than sources in Japan where it was fought. That would be a good challenge and it’s a cool battle.
Reminder:
In Shogun 2, in some Ninja failed missions there's this one samurai who literally throw a shuriken to kill the Ninja.
Hidden Samurai Weapons
Lord Shimura: We face our enemies in the open, with honor!
Loved seeing the outtakes from a South Park episode.
Compared to most other channels talking about weapons and so on, finding one not filled to the brim with inaccuracies and stereotypes is a good yet fairly rare sight
I knew samurai used throwing stars more than ninja but I didn't know coating them with poison was a real thing. Makes me wonder how many samurai poisoned themselves while using the weapon.
Fascinating that the samurai used shurikens. Deadly little weapons.
NOT JUST A HIDDEN SAMURAI WEAPON, IT'S A NINJA WEAPON... COWABUNGA! 🐢👊💥👌
Common missconception: Ninjas only used shuriken when absolute necessary. normally they didnt carry any of them cause they make noise while moving. and if used they where not thrown but put between fingers so they can punch enemies and hurt them with blades. And Kunai where not knifes, they where universal tools for climbing and digging.
0:24 Definitely getting vibes from South Park when Kenny hit Butters in the eye with that weapon.
Sticking a shuriken in the ground effectively makes it a caltrop or as the Japanese call them "makibishi" not to be confused with the car company.
I remembered when my friends and I used to make these in school with paper, good times
4:41 yeah.....no thanks.

Having a sword fight... Casually tosses shuriken at their eye...
Shurikens combined with elemental ninjutsu is even deadlier.
Fun Fact: These are banned in some Countries such as Australia, some parts of Europe and some US States. However, Saw Blades make a good improvization.

The most embarrassing death by shurikens: *Death by Geisha*
ah, yes, 2:39, the Flying Swastika
Please more videos on old japan and japan in general I love these
1) it seems they have been a common toy, just like darts in Britain.
2) in combat they were meant to maim not kill. Imagine throwing them against an unarmored archer, while you're in full armor and then close the distance and cut them down.. . For ninja they would make some sense in combat, if it's off the battlefield (because no armor)
Watching the SAS video about the Iranian Embassy made me think you should do other CT events like the GIGN and the retaking of Air France Flight 8969. That was another crazy story
The original way to cross map someone with a weapon that’s meant to be thrown
2:44 When the Kuomintang recovers the mainland
Everybody gangsta until you see a ninja star sticking out of your forehead
0:26 , *he do be vibing tho*

Because he knows more
Gaijin Goobbah would have a fit if he saw this video. Sure shuriken were also used by Samurai, but they were more of a diversionary tool than deadly weapon.
The weapon of choice for the crazy Decepticon Frenzy in the first Transformers movie
Those samurais surely had a trick up their sleeve
they made shurikens from ninjago into a real thing
Ah yes, the honorable samurai tactic of letmethrowthisupintheairatthestartofabattle-utsu
I really loved it and i hope u make more vids about samurai
very cool character i think im gonna 3d print myself a Major Mike....
Who would win in a fight? A trained samurai with years of training or one spikey yeet star?
Wouldn't the samurai see something like this as dishonorable?
Thats a myth,if yur curious u can checkout metatron's channel,he can explain this better than me.
How many backup weapons do you want?
Samurai: *yes*
I've watched too much anime that I know every ninja has at least 10000 shurikens
People: Ninja Shurikens
Real_history.exe has stopped working
And here I thought it was Ninja Weapon.
Wow amazing.
TY ☺
In fact, lethality of this weapon is blown so our of proportion, it is outright banned in several countries
True. You gotta be pretty close or throw seriously hard, to manage to penetrate clothes and skin to a deadly effect
This guy could make a piece of paper sound interesting
So this is what Ryu is always screaming when throwing fireballs
I also have a shuriken made of metal bottle caps.

1:01 Japanese Legos
Teacher:don't throw pen in classroom
Kid in the back classroom:
I have 3 shurikens shaped as Batman logo. I thought it was Batarang but they don't come back to me when thrown. The tips are sharp blades. So I call them Bat shurikens.
I use a 4-point shuriken as a horizonal spinning weapon on my 1-pound class combat robot.
I found one of those star blade ones while hiking stuck on a tree I still have it
Whatever i look a shuriken , i always think about a boy with his whiskers tattoo in his face .
Reminds me of throwing electric fan blades that were discarded😂
Isn't the sharp part of the shiruken-wheel too short to kill someone? You need a certain depth to reach an important organ or blood vessel ...
Ur still watching the vid lol
@@erichschneider4759 Without poison, i mean,
Yes, a full fatal hit would require a hit to the neck or the head, but long term damage from bleeding is still something to consider
One of the options for poison for shuriken was even just feces, with a successful hit the target may die later from the wound getting infected
For short term lethality, sure, it's unlikely to do the job itself, but the sudden hit from it can cause an opening in the opponent's guard, letting the samurai follow it up with a direct attack
