  • The Pioneer PAL Belt and SBD Belt are the best adjustable lever belts on the market. Which is the best though?
    ➡ Best Weightlifting Belts: www.garagegymreviews.com/best...
    The SBD Belt is the stalwart. They offered the first adjustable lever belt and it was a tremendous evolution in strength support. Pioneer, a maker of fantastic belts decided to release their own version and call it the Pioneer PAL Belt.
    Today I compare the two and share which is the best lever belt for powerlifting.

      That buzzing sound, which I hear as well, is the residual standing wave/echo left over from deadlifting 1500 lbs and dropping them, he has to give at least 1 day rest between deadlifting and making a video, otherwise the room will have this standing wave echo, getting caught in the recording.

      I was surprised he didn't highlight the difference in adjustment fidelity. It's so nice to choose exactly how tight you want it. Sometimes with the SBD, I feel like one setting is too tight, and the very next setting is a little loose. Every half-inch matters.

    1/2” adjustments are a big advantage for the pioneer that you didn’t acknowledge. Most people won’t ever need more than two inches of adjustment range unless they lose or gain a significant amount of weight, so moving the lever assembly on the pioneer will be necessary only infrequently. Meanwhile having finer 1/2” adjustments is great between different lifts, days where you’re lifting on full vs empty stomach, different clothing, or just normal minor weight fluctuations.

    I’ve been using the Pioneer belt for over a year almost every day. Absolutely love it, super sturdy, fits well and surprisingly comfortable after break in. A couple minor issues: the screws tend to back out slowly over a couple months (I keep a Swiss army knife in my bag to tighten them), there is a little wobble in the lever arm now (doesn’t effect performance), and because it’s unfinished leather I put leather conditioner on it every month or so to keep it from weakening/drying. If you’re thinking about buying one, it’s definitely worth the money and it won’t disappoint, but these are a few things to keep in mind.

    Awesome review, I definitely dig the comparison/review format. I own the pioneer PAL and at the time I bought it purely for the value and obviously for the genius behind it, but I always wondered if I missed out skipping on the SBD adjustable. I love my PAL and my Pioneer belt but it is cool to know how close a contender the SBD is and how they paved the way for the adjustable option on a lever belt.

    Primary win for the Pioneer over the SBD for me, is the half inch adjustments. Tshirt > Hoodie > Soft Belt, I don't want 1 inch increments there, and at most I am adding 2in total which the Pioneer perfectly supports, as opposed to every notch on the SBD being 1 inch.

  • @THExJMC
    @THExJMC 2 ปีที่แล้ว +18

    The SBD looks so premium and clean, but if I were ever going to upgrade my belt I'd probably go with the pioneer for the functionality. Like many others have said, you rarely want such a wide range of adjustability within the same time period. For reference on my Inzer prong belt I never need to adjust more than one space over the course of a workout. Maybe if I'm feeling particularly lean I will go from warm up with sweater on to serious with sweater off and go over 2 holes. With that being said, the Pioneer adjustment is enough for that. I always find that one hole over is sometimes too tight or too loose by just a bit. Having more fine adjustments is a huge pro. Another thing, that doesn't apply to me because I have a prong, but you can buy just the lever mechanism for a pioneer belt and this makes it significantly cheaper for others who are already using a lever belt. In addition, in this case there is no break in period or anything and it is much cheaper.

    The reason I went with pioneer is because I already had an Inzer belt for years. It was still in great shape, so I just needed to get the new lever and replace it with the old one. It works wonders, now I can adjust based on how bloated I feel or if I have a hoodie on or off when I’m working out.

    Friend had the SBD for a week and within that time frame a "teeth" that goes into the hole broke off after dropping it to the floor (stall mats). Looked like the metal was casted; I expected it to be milled for that price point (not a metal worker, I could be wrong). It took him so time to get in contact with SBD Netherlands but he got it replaced eventually.

  • @clownpocket
    @clownpocket 3 ปีที่แล้ว +7

    You forgot something very important:
    The Pioneer belt can be adjusted in 1/2 inch increments, the SBD only in 1 inch increments.
    Sometimes on a 1 inch increment belt one size is just too tight, the other is just too loose.
    Big win on the Pioneer for that, with 1/2 inch increments it fits just right every time.

I've wanted a PAL since I first saw it months ago just waiting for the stock belts to offered with just the PAL and not have to buy the regular lever with it .I'm in Ireland and there's not going to be much difference in price between the 2 belts but b4 the PAL was launched I was between the SBD and the Poineer cut prong belt the half inch increments really appeals to me. I've used the SBD belt before and it's a great belt..But I really want that stock belt you've got there it's the sh1t . If youd like to donate it to me I'll gladly pay the shipping 😁😁😁

    I don't fluctuate between 350 & 450 like Coop, but if I workout after lunch or dinner, I use a the next hole up compared to working out on an empty stomach early in the am. I'd like to get a Pioneer lever belt, but my Inzer Forever single prong will never die.

    But all you have to do is move the lever to different holes. Once you’re close with that position the lever latching side should be fine on Pioneer. How many inches of adjustment are we talking on each belt?

    I need the micro adjustments. Dropped 20 pounds. Very hard to brace now. SBD is the obvious choice for strongmen using under belts, so much variation required but mere mortals can just get away with 2” of adjustments.

    Pioneer is amazing. I own a stock belt with a PAL. But if you compete in IPF/USAPL might want to go SBD for adjustable lever. If not do A7 which are made by pioneer.

    You haven't mentioned one of the biggest selling point for the PAL and that's the half-inch hole increments like the pioneer cut Vs 1 inch spacing of the SBD

    • @Worldgonemad

      Or the fact that Pioneer isn't approved by the IPF or the USAPL while the SBD is approved in all federations.

    I have the sbd belt, only downside is the size of the adjustment, it works perfectly for me but if your perfect belt tightness is in between the holes on the belt you’re shit out of luck. Luckily for me it’s right on where I want it to be, could see it being an issue though.

    I’ve had an Inzer lever belt with the original quick-release buckle since 2016 . I’m not a fan of the suede leather, as it scratches easily. The lever’s finish is rough with some sharp burrs. Having to remove the screws to change the tightness is annoying. Overall, it’s still a decent belt. However, if I have to buy another belt, I’d get one with leather with a smoother finish and an easier-to-adjust buckle.

    Coop nice video, yet if your going to compare lever belts that are adjustable. What about the Wahlanders? It's s adjustable prong quick release belt. I bought a SBD a regular lever and the Wahlanders. I believe the quality of leather of the Wahlanders is a little better than SBD even. And can get other colors and I believe a 10mm..... Been awhile so don't quote me. I think these belts should also been in conversations to compare

    It is probably worth bearing in mind that the conclusion will be different if you live in the UK. The SBD is a bit cheaper in the UK and the Pioneer costs a ton on shipping.

    Coop, I think a Big drawback of the Pioneer lever, is the portion that screws on to your belt does not have an extended flange on the back. I bought their lever and put it on my broken in belt. It worked Fine for about a week, but then became almost impossible to close. When I looked at my old buckle I noticed it had an extended flange. The pioneer did not and as a result it bent/dented/deformed the leather so that under tension it was deformed and the buckle wouldn’t secure. Sorry hard to explain but easy to understand when you see it

  • @Pryma80

    Great comparison. I would choose Pioneer because of how fine adjustment you can make. The step in SBD is slightly to big for my liking. I often wish I could go "in between"

      Pioneer quality control sucks, mine got unstitched the first day i used it. I thought it was a bad batch but there are a lot of stories out there (exodus strength forum) that people's belts from pioneer got delaminated after 1 year. I also have a sbd that i bought 7 years ago and not a single thread had come off. My Inzer of 10 years is intact also. Probably Pioneer uses best quality leather but their quality control and construction is really bad...

  • @hawkeytown

    Pioneer doesnt yet sell a full belt for it. They had a super hard time getting the original orders of just the buckles in. They said on instagram they will be having the ability to order it as soon as they can. For now you have to order a lever and belt sperate, but like coop said you can customize the hell put of them.
