Lyrics:
Four in the morning
I woke up from out of my dreams
Nowhere to go but back to sleep
But I’m reconciled
Oh, oh, oh, I’m gonna be up for a while
Oh, oh, oh, I’m gonna be up for a while
Oh, oh, oh, I’m gonna be up for a while

"Misinformation followed us like a plague." Oh, the prescience!
He's done so much amazing stuff, but I think this is one of his bests.
True....
I agree...50 years later, love it even more.
It's poetry and I just wanted to hear it again. It carries me to a place where I could have hope.
@@thefabulousgreenbean2194 Agreed, music has saved me on numerous occasions. I can never understand people who don't listen to it.
I think so too
I can not get enough of this song. I love everything about it.
Peace Like A River
Peace like a river ran thnough the city
Long past the midnight curfew
We sat starry-eyed
We were satisfied
And I remember
Misinformation followed us like a plague
Nobody knew from time to time
If the plans were changed
If the plans were changed.
You can beat us with wires
You can beat us with chains
You can run out your rules
But you know you cans outrun the history train
I've seen a glorious day.
Four in the morning
I woke up from out of my dreams
Nowhere to go but back to sleep
But I'm reconciled
Oh, oh, oh, I'm going to be up for a while
Tells of the deceptive times we are in..Peace like a river comes from the book of Isaiah. Isaiah 66:12
Misinformation followed us like a plague.... I suppose that makes Paul a prophet.
"misinformation". never leaves the scene.
hasbara
It's because the same bs happening now was happening then
i spent my 16th and 17th year of this life listening to this album and harmonizing. this song is one of my faves .
That opening guitar riff just invites you in. Once you've arrived, you will never forget your first visit. I heard this some 50 years ago and I still remember it.
It is probably one of the most played songs in my iTunes library.
There's not a bad song on this entire album and most, like this one, are phenomenal! Brings back memories.
Couldnt agree more. His guitar prowess just is magical.Best wishes from Australia.
Incredible song! Can't get much better than this! Sadly most people don't really know...you might have to be a guitarist to fully realize the genius of this...holy hell...
No PS song hits me deeper than this one. Absolute perfection.
I can't get over how good the tracking / mixing / mastering on this recording. I absolutely love the texture, tone and coloring of it all. It grabs my head and takes it for a real ride.
Then you'll like 'There Goes Rhymin' Simon'
@@TonyWud I've known that album my entire life so yes, I do. There aren't many musicians who stay current and keep interesting their audiences the way Paul Simon + all those he brings to the forefront have. Every decade since the early 60's Paul has brought us something that becomes etched into the fabric of our conscienceless and the best thing I can say about the man is when I saw his 'Farewell Tour' at the Hollywood Bowl, of all the hits he played, I was most moved by the newest work. Who else can we think of that has managed that?
I love this sound more than anything I hear for some years now. This is beautiful. It sounds more like you're sitting there, with him in front of you. Just wonderful
@@wizardmix Bob Dylan is one that springs to mind. But it's definitely a short list and Paul is in good company.
I just love that whole first solo album. The finger-picking on this song is unreal, just beautiful.
One of my favorite albums. I'm also partial to Mother and Child Reunion, the first 45 I bought for myself at the age of 9 with my own money.. I was so proud and wore it out !
@@MVR326 Nice!
Growing up in the late sixties with all the anti war yuppies, we really felt as if we could change the world. How we all became the thing we hated is the greatest regret many of us feel…and the guilt of the mess we are leaving behind is what keeps us up later at night.
This song gave me a pathway to salvation; to find a peace like a river.
A few of us stuck to our/principles/beliefs-> a member of the HS class of 69 that never became a yuppie, just more moderate. *My grandma was right, moderation in all things is the key to life.
Had to play this for my dog because I love her so.
This is in my top 3 favorite Paul Simon songs. ❤

I LOVE YOU, PAULLLL
Amazing singer,songwriter,performer, guitarist, arranger...
During COVID pandemic I heard this song many times. Still think the lyrics make sense if we think about that time. Peace.
Beautiful ❤
My personal favorite. Timeless, beautiful, sophisticated, and anti- fascist.
🔥🔥🔥
Now if only we could all agree on who the fascists were.

Definitely the far left
I listened to this album and song in the '70's. It never got (gets old). And I still I ruminate about and on this song.
It's about struggle for the truth.
Moi aussi. J'ai écouté cette chanson lors de sa première sortie. Comme toi, j'y réfléchis beaucoup. Bon à savoir, la chanson vous parle !
I found out how good Paul Simon was when he gave us his best guitar.
Whenever I hear it i know just some of what he is mining after digging so long in faith. Love it1
The lyrics in this song seem very relevant to the recent lockdowns, spookily so. Always been a fav
Yes .. had this album in 72... Thought about it recently, listened to it and it is so for today... Misinformation ran through the city like a plague... Nobody knew from time to time when the plans would change hes seen the glorious Day......peace like a river... Love Paul Simon
This song was written in response to the events that took place at the Democratic National Convention in Chicago in 1968. A genius piece of songwriting by Paul
One of first albums I ever bought, at age 14. Fascinating music.
I agree.I was 16.Its very unusual to by an album and love every song on it.This is one of those.Best wishes from Australia mate
The number one artist in the whole rock and folk era from the 1960's to the present. He along with Art Garfunkel.
I agree...minus the Garfunkel
He makes Dylan seem like a cack-handed amateur in comparison.
This song is so beautiful
I love playing this song, but I have no idea how he does that rubato guitar part. Too cool.
I just finished a note for note tab of "Night Game" (still working on the optics right now...) another difficult guitar piece dancing between 4/4 and 6/8.. I may do this one next if the Quad mix will cooperate! Stay tuned!
My favorite Paul Simon song and he has so many greats. I love the Native American undercurrent. Such a powerful message.
His very best!
The relevance stands up all the way from 1972
"Peace Like a River" is a great tune to get used to hearing every day.
The overdubbing vocal "Ahhhsss." similar to the same effect on "Only Living Boy in NYC."
Just great
I love this ❤️ Vocals, guitar & drum ✌️
One of my favorites!
Listened to this when I was in Chile during the early 70’s, Curfew, Alliende/Pinochet, lovely girl friends et al…..
Based
Love

M'insultano !
2:41 How on earth is this made ?
Elvis Costello ranked this as a great song along with Congratulation.
Estas versiones no corresponden al album original del de 1973.
Ya
How many Democrats listening?
He stepped up during the struggle to end apartheid- now perhaps He can do the same for the Palestinians vis-a-vis the ZioNazis occupation.
straight up: "nobody knew from time to time if the plans were changed"
Plans. Plans. somehow contemporary moments .. I really don't like the way you sing "plans" anymore. This aint no cancellation
this aint no bail. this aint no tweet i will have to cancel.
just the way. you sing. plans. god these are sad times
