It's taken me over a week to finish watching this as too many things get in the way, but oh how worthwhile was the waiting. What a joyous concert, so uplifting and stirring. I loved it all especially the Gert improvisations of O Holy Night and Psalm 42 - absolutely wonderful. Even so, what added massively to this concert was watching Gert and Marjolein. I thank God that those two precious little boys will grow up with parents who love, live, laugh and work together in such harmony. May God bless you all.

Heavenly finale!!! Gert, you are a minister of music and seem to be grounded in your faith. The musical sermons we receive from your diverse selections of hymns, psalms and classicals are uplifting to our ears. The way you play and your expressions tell beautiful, poetic things to our hearts. Thank you for another fabulous concert. Bless your family.

I'm listening to this concert on Saturday evening, as has become my habit this year. I lovely way to prepare for the Sunday. "Nu Zijt Welekomen" speaks to me. Last year our church services were on-line for a long time. After the second service Bill would ask me to find Nederland Zingt with Nu Zijt Wellecomen and he would sing along, even if it was in the middle of the summer. This past year, after 53 years of marriage, he passed away. The chair beside me is empty so when you played this Christmas melody, I had a little cry. And I love your arrangement of O Holy Night. You made the stars twinkle and the moon beams float. I live near Vancouver, BC, Canada.

We enjoyed a great pre-Christmas present. Thank you, Gert! You gifted us with an excellent selection of classical pieces and Christmas hymns. The improvisation on "Oh Holy Night" and the fantasy on Psalm 42 still resonate.

Gert, I just love to listen to you play! I hear my dad playing when I hear you. He passed away at the age of 95 back in 2012 but played to almost his last days. You have the same feeling for the music he had. He played many of the pieces I hear you play with such feeling. He was always the church organist in whatever town we lived, but he didn't do concerts. I really miss him so it's so nice to hear you do what he loved to do. Continue to praise God as you do.

As always, a great delight to begin with the beautiful melody by KJ Mulder, leading into the Christmas improv and many other wonderful works, with Marjolein there to assist you so gracefully, while helping the boys in between!! It was great to hear you playing on your home organ once again, although the concerts are amazingly beautiful wherever you perform. God bless you and Marjolein and the boys with a joyous Christmas season!! 🙏🎹🎶🎄

The first piece, Op U, mijn Heiland, blijf ik hopen, is an advent hymn. One of my favourites to play and to listen to in these weeks before Christmas. The original title is german: O du mein Trost und süsses Hoffen, a hymn of Carl Wilhelm Osterwald (1820-1887), translated by Everard Egidius Gewin (1843-1909). The melody is of Johann Wolfgang Franck (1644-1710). A third translation, of A. J. Hoogenbirk starts with O Gij, mijn troost en blijde hope. There’s also a translation by Dirk Christiaan Meijer jr, starting with O Gij, mijn troost, mijn zielsverlangen.
The second piece, Nu zijt wellekome, is an old christmas song. The original is the 14th century german hymn called Syt willekommen Herre Krist, something like: we welcome you Jesus Christ.

I've been watching you for years. Love it!
I had an idea for your mike, maybe you could put a tiny bit of reverb on the mike it would add to the tembre. Just a thought.
I'm curious your English has more of an American sound rather than a British sound, could you comment on your excellent English. 🙂

Hi Gert I have recently found you on you tube and now subscribed. Just catching up on all your previous videos. Love the organ. Not sure where you live in the Netherlands but many years ago now I was stationed at RAF Bruggen on the Dutch border near a place called Roermond. I had many Dutch civilian friends alas no longer in touch with, but always had great times together. Does your wife play at all? I would love to come and see you if you are in concert in the UK in the future.

Hello Gert, that was another great concert. Above all, I like to listen to your improvisations.
I would have a wish for your Christmas livestream: "Make the gates wide" (Machet die Tore weit)by Andreas Hammerschmidt (1612-1675). That would be great. This piece is currently also on the music stand of my home organ.
Best regards from Saxony and keep up the good work...

Van 'nu zijt wellekome' is ook een Engelse vertaling:
    1. Jesus, You are welcome here with us today.
You came to earth from heaven on Christmas day.
Jesus, You are welcome now to stay with us again.
In our sinful hearts, give us mercy, come and reign. Kyrieleis.*
    2. “Christ have mercy on us”, we together sing.
For what You’ve done to save us our praise we bring.
You were born on Christmas, God among us here to be.
Bringing us salvation, from sin to set us free. Kyrieleis.*
    3. Shepherds in the fields heard angels’ words of cheer.
They could not understand it: they shook with fear.
“Go and find your Savior,” said the angel in the skies.
“Leave your sheep to seek him: in Bethlehem he lies.” Kyrieleis.*
    4. Wise men came to seek him from a distant land.
To give their richest treasure was what they planned.
Placing gold and frankincense and myrrh before their King,
Love and adoration, the best of gifts to bring. Kyrieleis.*

Why Are You Cast Down, O My Soul?
To the choirmaster. A Maskil[a] of the Sons of Korah.
42 As a deer pants for flowing streams,
so pants my soul for you, O God.
2 My soul thirsts for God,
    for the living God.
When shall I come and appear before God?[b]
3 My tears have been my food
    day and night,
while they say to me all the day long,
    “Where is your God?”
    4 These things I remember,
as I pour out my soul:
how I would go with the throng
and lead them in procession to the house of God
with glad shouts and songs of praise,
    a multitude keeping festival.
5 Why are you cast down, O my soul,
and why are you in turmoil within me?
Hope in God; for I shall again praise him,
my salvation[c] 6 and my God.
    My soul is cast down within me;
    therefore I remember you
from the land of Jordan and of Hermon,
    from Mount Mizar.
    7 Deep calls to deep
    at the roar of your waterfalls;
all your breakers and your waves
    have gone over me.
8 By day the Lord commands his steadfast love,
and at night his song is with me,
a prayer to the God of my life.
9 I say to God, my rock:
    “Why have you forgotten me?
    Why do I go mourning
because of the oppression of the enemy?”
10 As with a deadly wound in my bones,
    my adversaries taunt me,
while they say to me all the day long,
    “Where is your God?”
11 Why are you cast down, O my soul,
and why are you in turmoil within me?
Hope in God; for I shall again praise him,
    my salvation and my God.
