    Impressive. I’ve saved a lot of money by learning to work on my frets. It’s also a way to get great deals on used guitars if they have sharp fret ends or buzzing.
    I might have to get this for my upcoming refret.

    Hey you guys should come up with a single fret leveler, maybe similar to the fret kisser type of thing. Between your fret leveling beam, the s file and a single fret level/rocker and a notched straight edge... Bingo all bases covered..

    I was going to get one of these then noticed the area that is lacking abrasive in the middle looks pretty wide, not enough grit to bring the final crowning to a pine point.
    Does this file require rocking and rotation to get a finished crowning, or is this more like a roughing it in file to be followed up by say the Z file?

  • @danielb5081
    @danielb5081 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    How do you clean the metal buildup in the diamond file grit so the packed in metal build up does not reduce the efficiency and possibly scratch the frets?

    • @MusicNomadCare
      @MusicNomadCare  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      To clean, use a brush with brass bristles and gently brush the diamond channels to remove any material that may be stuck in the diamonds.

  • @OperationStackola247
    @OperationStackola247 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

    Are you able to angle the tool while crowning in order to leave a thinner profile on the fret, or does the geometry of the tool not allow for this? I ask because the "safe", non-coated portion of the file looks a little wide.

    • @MusicNomadCare
      @MusicNomadCare  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      You can angle it as well, the camera shot makes it look wide but it is not. Been road tested for over a year with 5 top shops to develop the ideal safe zone not too narrow not too wide. But can roll some if desire.

      Hi, Our Safe Zone S-File (MN850) is used for crowning frets. For leveling frets check out our Fret Leveler Beams (L-Beams). We have three sizes to choose from, 7" (18cm), 17.6" (45cm), and 24" (61cm). www.musicnomadcare.com/Products/Guitar-Fret-Care/Fret-Leveler-L-Beam-5-Products/

    How many fret jobs can I expect before it's worn out?

    • @MusicNomadCare
      @MusicNomadCare  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      We don’t have a specific time frame on the file because use and wear vary greatly among users and fret materials. Before launching we tested the product with 4 high volume guitar repair shops for over a year and they did not report any significant wear and all are still using the file weekly. If there is normal wear and tear from extensive use of the S-File, for example, we don’t replace the product. That being said, our S-File should last a very long time. If you are ever unsatisfied with one of our products, just reach out to us and we will always try to make it right!

    No negativity here, just a genuine question: how is this different from the StewMac Centred Z File? The Z file is also a diamond file, and also leaves the center of the fret untouched. I realize that your S file is heavier, but how is it different in the result it gets?

    • @MusicNomadCare
      @MusicNomadCare  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thanks for reaching out. Z file is a nice file. Main features/benefits we built into our design not even considering other files but just how to give the best user experience and results at an affordable price:
      -S file is heavy which helps assist
      -Blue comfort handle makes a big difference
      -Offset handle adds leverage and clears body when working on frets over body for peace of mind and ease
      -Nose for spot crowning and two lines for exact spot crowning
      -240 girt let's you work on both stainless(hard) and nickel (soft) they have two grits to buy
      -Affordable price
      -It's all about the safe zone (S-File) that uniformly rounds on both sides with the same filing stoke without the chance to over file.
      -Finally the final shape of the fret after using the S-File is round....frets are designed round for a reason and the S File cut is round like the original fret out of the factory which gives it a smooth, round and original shape for the best sound and playability. Feels great when playing never sharp or pointy and fret wears good. Z File cuts to a straight line leaving a point and more triangle shape.
      Hope that helps.

      @johnbuell8035 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@MusicNomadCare Thanks. I understand the features. What I was trying to find out is if the result is any different when using the two tools. I guess the answer is that the result is a fret which is more evenly rounded with your tool.

    Can anyone tell me if it is a serious issue that when using a multi-sided "Fret rocker" tool on a Custom shop Les Paul
    if there is a very slight rocking when placed on the three frets? This does not happen all over the neck only in a few spots.
    The guitar does not have any fret buzz or dead spots when bending. The action is set very low(1.5mm at the 12th)

    • @thislisa
      @thislisa 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

      It sounds like you have a high spot but if you aren't getting any buzz then you don't have to address the issue unless you want to lower your action further.

    • @These_go_to_eleven_1959
      @These_go_to_eleven_1959 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@thislisa Thank you, since the frets are new with no wear what would cause the high spots?

    • @oldschoolfunkster1
      @oldschoolfunkster1 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      @@These_go_to_eleven_1959... Humidity. The wood contracts and if the fret is not sitting well, or loosely set, it will move out of its fretboard groove. Same reason we get fret ends sticking out. I would use a small block of wood or dowel and lay it on top of the problem fret to hammer the fret in place. If it's not that bad of a problem, this should take care of it. Make sure you support the neck directly from where your bad fret is. Last thing you need is a crack on the neck.

    • @thislisa
      @thislisa 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      @@These_go_to_eleven_1959 It isn't uncommon for a new guitar to have a high fret or two. You would hope Gibson would be careful not to send it out that way but maybe their QA isn't tight.
