    Great video Don! Have a TIP: when I fire up customer machines, I leave the choke completely on THEN lower the throttle. If the engine doesn't slow down, you know the throttle is stuck without having the engine revving up to a catastrophic RPM. Sort of using the choke to "govern" engine speed at a safe level. HTH

    I really enjoy watching your videos. As a small engine guy, this is so entertaining for me. I could fix these in my sleep any more. I finally got my own snow blower tires replaced. As they say, the mechanics car is always the last to get repairs. I am still working on lawn mowers. My wife retired and is pushing me to hang up my tools and move on. She says I did my time and deserve to relax. I hope to pass my experience on to my grandson before I do.

    Hi Don!!! What a blessing seeing this video. I had just gone through this situation with a Crafstman snowblower with a Tecumseh engine. I took some close ups of the throttle linkage as I think I many have hooked it up wrong. I will certainly use WD40 as you demonstrated. Thanks for posting this!!! Hope all is well in your world, you have been an absolute blessing through all your videos. Thank you so very much!!!! Stay well!!!

    i know you will appreciate this tip being from Canada but here in NY state, I use Rust Check red spray to keep parts moving freely and to help them move if they get stuck...Our repair shop was a Rust Check application facility so I had access to the good stuff...being a product that is made in Canada, you probably already know about this "liquid gold"....better than WD-40 any day...thanks Don!!!!......PS the Rust Check "Coat and Protect" spray is really good for keeping the stuff out and is a stickier substance that won't run off like the red spray does

    Dony, I have a John Deere rototiller with the Tecumseh engine. I bought it used and was told it just came back from the shop for repair. I took it home and had to put s spark plug in it. Engine started up and revd so high it threw the rod out the side of the block. Had to buy a new engine. My problem was the governor inside the engine.

    How about that? Easy enough when you know what to look for. WD-40 fixed it for now. I didn't think it would be that simple. If the problem returned quickly, would disassembly and a good cleaning be called for? Placing the parts in a large ziplock bag with cleaning solution of choice, with that in an Ultrasonic Cleaner might be the best way for an easy, thorough cleaning. Another great one, Don. Thanks

    I have a a 1977 Ariens ST24. on 2nd set of belts, finally tubeless tire fail last April. I blow snow off machine with leaf blower. Prior to that chock was often freezing in position. No primer on this as so old. Runs like a champ. Probable should do friction disc, but moves forward fast as I want. My owners manual says to leave carb & tank dry in off season. Never had a problem in fall because bad/stale gas.

    Dony, on a few videos ago, you talked bout the air flow screw and how not to make the hole any larger. THen you came out with a video showing how to us a micro drill bit to make the hole larger to stop the reviving. What builds up in the screw that decreases air flow? My engine revs and i have to make use of it in choke mode or the engine will die underload conditions. I am not sure what to do. The carb and the carb bowl are clean.

  • @tommagiera4784
    @tommagiera4784 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

    i had a customer with the same engine overrev and blew up the engine and it was'nt a seized linkage. The 2 bolts holding the carb to the manifold had fallen out completely leaving only the philips screws holding the carb in position and vastly increasing the air to fuel ratio. I had to replace the engine. Never have I seen that happen before.

    Not 100% sure they were on this machine but as soon as you see a 'dimple' stamped in the head of a 'Phillips' screw, it's not a Phillips but a J.I.S. (Japanese Industrial Standard) and, it requires the proper driver to avoid stripping the cross. Very common on small engine carburetors.

Now I'm looking at my own Poulan Pro machine. The manual very clearly tells me that the "Traction Drive System" should not be lubricated. The sprockets, hex shaft, bearings and bushing are lifetime lubricated. Do you think I should service it anyway ? Thanks.

    What would you recommend for cold starting those B&S engines with no throttle level to prevent damage

  • @hanyoukimura
    @hanyoukimura 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

    The issue I have with my Tecumseh is that it'll start up and run fine at first, and will run fine when under load, but after it's warmed up and I take the load off it'll rev higher than it should (when it's cold and when it's under load the rpm is fine). I will throttle down, but I have to put the lever all the way down to get it to do so. This is the second new carburetor I've put on it.

    • @michaeldyer5548
      @michaeldyer5548 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I have a similar issue. When in high rpm with auger and drive levers engaged my blower will bog down slightly to 3200/3300 and then way higher 4200/4300 when the auger lever is released. The 10.5hp also seems to not be throwing snow far after adjusting the high rpm down to 3600. It was throwing great at higher rpm, but was very loud and I figured I should get a tach to set it properly, now it’s not throwing very well.

    You really didn't fix it. The minute it gets cold, that oil will thicken and the gum that's clogging it up will freeze the mechanism again. You need to hit it with carb cleaner first to remove the dirt and gum, THEN you can lubricate it. This fix was just half assed.
