  • Last week the Boeing 727 M-STAR visited Cologne Airport and of course I visited the airport to film it. In my opinion this particular B727 is best looking classic B727 worldwide. The paint scheme is just amazing and it makes this 40 year old plane look more modern than an A321Neo which just left the factory at Finkenwerder. The B727 arrived from Paris Le Bourget and also left to LBG after a 90 minutes stay at Cologne. I don`t know why it visited my area but it` s definitly a private VIP Boeing which is owned by Starling Aviation. Usually the aircraft is parked at Paris Le Bourget or Dubai.
    The reason for making a Trijet compilation was definitly the Boeing 727. Right after I filmed it I reviewed older Boeing 727 clips I filmed in the past. Although the red B727 of Oil Spill Response also looks amazing I would still say that this VIP aircraft looks a bit more elegant.
    I also included other trijets, including the Tristar, Dc-10, Md11, Tu154 and many more. I was surprised how many different three - engined planes I have already filmed in the past. I hope you enjoyed this Trijet compilation as much as I did while editing it.

    Makes me feel a bit old knowing that I can remember when trijets composed a significant percentage of planes in the sky. I personally always thought the DC-10/MD-11 looked awkward and the tail engine looked like an afterthought whereas the integrated designs of the L-1011 and 727 looked so much more elegant and graceful (especially the 727 with all three engines in the rear)
    Cheers

      @@tristancleymans8243 Absolutely. loud and proud. What a magnificent plane the 727 was. The epitome of what perfection is. I always flew strictly on them, loved this beautiful fast and fierce jet with everything in me. Pilots did too, I was told by the pilot of one I had flown on that it handled like a dream, could reach extremely fast speed, was easy to bank, easy to get airborne, and was very forgiving. I knew from my first flight on this incredible machine, there would be no going back. When I learned the 727 was being taken out of service, a piece of my soul died. This is a great video of some classic airplanes, thank you for sharing it with us. For me the best ones are the 727s, what a sweet thing she was... 😟💔

    I also find tri jet planes fascinating; the tail engine, in the case of 727 having the exhaust (my goodness the pressure it is in) be detoured down through a pipe instead of directly out of a nozzle seems so odd, and tail engines (DC 10, MD11) also seem odd because I think of the tail and rudder already having enough to do, ha ha-but of course the engineers have worked it all out. Love these planes-great, great video.

    • @hsw268
      @hsw268 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Wow, superb that you captured footage of handsome liveried 727s with near sharklet winglets! When I moved near Sydney Airport in 1995 there were still quite a few cargo 72s in operation. They used to depart off 34L climbing right over our suburb-I have never heard such ear-splitting, loud turbojet symphonies… they were so loud on early climb they seemed to split the very atmosphere itself-and those later examples were, I assume, hush-kitted :-) nothing compares!

    Easy question for those who watch this EXCELLENT video. (I'm a novice, so be gentle) How does one tell the difference between the DC-10 and the MD-11. I believe I have the rest of them figured out, but these to escape me. Again, EXCELLENT video and KEEP POSTING!!!!! :-)

    • @spec4393
      @spec4393 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Visible differences between them are that the MD-11 has winglets while the DC-10 doesnt have them, the cockpit from the MD-11 also received better and newer avionics, which were more advanced than the cockpit from the DC-10 which only had gauges, the MD-11 also used different engines, it can either be fitted with three PW4000’s or better CF6 engines, which were stronger than the older engines used on the DC-10 (Older CF6 variants and the JT9D), aside from this while a DC-10 required a flight crew of 3, the MD-11 only needed 2 since the MD-11 didnt need a flight engineer anymore, other than that i’m unsure if there are any other differences i can say

    I remember the early 727s, DC-9s & 737s used to spew out thick black smoke, much worse than any JT3D on 707s or DC-8s & almost as bad as the J79s (Convair 880s). I do know in the early 1970s something was done to greatly reduce the smoke from the JT8s; probably due to public outcry.

    • @orestes1984
      @orestes1984 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not a lot really. They only really fly as private jets, and even less if you don't count the MD-11. Trijets went out of fashion because of ETOPs restrictions being removed and therefore? No need for the third engine really. The other issue is having a hard time reengeering them to fit modern engines even with the reengineering to replace the JT8Ds over the wings and putting in new nacelles and hush kits there has only been limited success in bringing the 727 up to stage 3 noise compliance.
      It was actually a much easier job to put a CFM-56 onto a DC-8. Why would you do that? There were many airframes out there that had relatively low flight hours that therefore made good candidates for commercial charter/freighter duties... UPS was the largest fleet operator of DC-8s until 2009 for this very reason.
