  • Tintagel Castle Cornwall - Full tour of the real King Arthur's Camelot near Padstow and Port Isaac. Is Tintagel Castle in Cornwall the real location of King Arthur home Camelot? We take a look..
Also watch Padstow Cornwall 👉 • PADSTOW CORNWALL | Ful...
Legend has it that the real home of King Arthur and the true location of Camelot and Merlin's cave is the historic and stunning Tintagel Castle, Cornwall. We took the Gimbal Walk TV Cameras along to film a walk in and around this beautiful location, across the famous Tintagel Bridge and around the castle grounds.
In this video you will see the grounds of Tintagel, a walk across the amazing Tintagel Castle bridge, a look at the King Arthur Statue and then down the path to see Tintagel Haven, the beach and Merlins Cave where the wizard Merlin was said to have lived.
This medieval site was home to buildings for centuries and eventually a castle was built here after the Earl of Cornwall became influenced by the myth and legend of King Arthur.
When you arrive in Tintagel Village you park your car in the the village carpark and make your way down through the village to the entrance to the castle.
This is an English Heritage site so there is an admission fee to enter and explore the castle but it's most definitely worth every penny as you will see in the video.
It is free to just wander down to Tintagel Haven and the beach but you won't get to see the sights and scenery and views from the castle which is an absolute must during any Cornwall holiday.
We begin this Tintagel Castle Tour just before the Tintagel Castle Bridge and looking across to the Camelot Hotel that dominates the clifftop views to the North as it looms over the sea and over Tintagel beach.
The walk around Tintagel Castle isn't a short one, it takes a couple of hours from the village, down to the castle, across the bridge and round the grounds if you want to make the most of your visit.
There are also steep steps, slopes and climbs so make sure you are good with all that, and that you are wearing strong footwear!
There has been a settlement in the area since Roman times but the place really grew in notoriety and popularity after Geoffrey of Monmouth chronicled that Tintagel Castle was the birthplace of King Arthur.
Tintagel Castle was once reached naturally from the headland by simply walking along to it, but over time the natural bridge eroded and collapsed into the sea. Since then there have been a couple of bridges built and currently there is the famous Tintagel Castle Bridge which is honestly a tourist attraction and destination in it's own right!
This is just one of a series of videos on the channel filmed in the area so make sure you are subscribed to see all the other places I have been to!

Magnificent film!! I was there just a couple of days ago (28/4/22) and it really did blow me away! I lucked out with the weather, a beautiful Spring day with only a light wind offshore. I ended up spending a little over 3 hours there and I think I took about 6GB worth of photo/video! You've done a much better job of capturing the sense of the heights than I did, they're just insane aren't they! I was more at ease on the bridge than I expected to be but that little gap in the floor at the halfway point was a little unsettling 😅 The photo worthy views just seem to be endless and all those little offshoot paths and ledges are irresistible to wander down. Cornwall has such a tangible sense of history, often dark history, and Tintagel Castle is right at the pinnacle of it. Tintagel village too, that medieval post office is unreal!! All in all, a wonderful day spent! You're quite right to point out the nature of some of the walking involved too, my calf muscles were certainly feeling it the next morning!

Thanks for a great walk down memory lane. My wife and I visited Tintagel in 2016, before the grudge was built and enjoyed the quirkiness and history of the castle. We both were saddened to see the bridge as we do not think it fits with the historic nature of the castle. We feel it sticks out like a sore thumb. Rant over. We really did enjoy seeing you take the stairs as we think this is the best way to experience the castle.

I have been to Tintagel castle about 6 or 7 years ago, it was a long drive there from our caravan site in Perranporth, but it was worth it!. We spent at least 3 hours there, but had to miss the bit with the merlin statue and there wasn't a bridge across, so decided because I was too tired, we'd give it a miss. I would love to walk across that bridge now and if we go again we will, it will save a lot of steps, I really enjoy watching your videos and waiting to see what else you have in future!.

Really good walk round. Great views. Sound advice on using the land rover, its worth the cost. One thing you missed..... The gap in the middle of the bridge, about 2 inches or so wide. The wooden pathways and steps below used to be the only way through onto the castle, and that is relatively new. Our first visit they had rope handrails fixed into the sides of the pathway steps!!!Now that was scary!

WoW! That was an incredible journey. Many gasps could be heard by me on the spectacular views! Following you on the clifftops looking down was a bit scary and mind blowing too! I never would have guessed England could offer such splendid and dramatic scenery! It's no wonder it has inspired artist and writers. I am surprised no-one with an easel and paintbrush was seen around all this beauty. I don't mind bridges too much or less they sway or jump around with feet clamoring on it. I'm not so sure I could do the steep steps. They would be done one at a time, Step then look about, look down, step repeat lol it would take me ages! I will remember this walk with you for a long time, thanks again for the invite! :)

I was there before that too, in winter, and too sick to explore. It was freezing! I was very content to be at the Camelot Hotel, which had recently opened. The owner was an absolute Prince of a man, and was the only staff we saw. No guests were there either, except us!
      1991 I think.

The Arthurian Prophecy states that Arthur will return and bring back Camelot. (You don't have to be Arthur to bring back Camelot).

first walked the path to the castle in 1974 on my honeymoon there was no bridge and the steps were in bad condition with very rickety hand rails we both ended up with very sore leg muscles that lasted for days

King Arthur had nothing to do with this place! For the real history read Alan Wilson and baron blackett books.

What a horrible little tourist trap, they have taken all the charm out of it with those nasty modern bridges and sterile stone walls at the top. Such a shame.

      There is a saying:
One must accept life, on life's terms.
      Think of the Serenity Prayer:
Grant me the Serenity to accept the things I cannot change,
The Courage to change the things I can,
and the Wisdom to know the difference.
      It builds character.
