Here in America, practically every pedestrian signal has a countdown. Every one that has been installed within the last 15 years that is. The older ones don’t.
I've seen these amber pedestrian countdown timers in Hull. But what I was surprised to see in Grantham was a Pedex crossing just outside Sainsbury's (those that have the same pelican crossing design, but with the normal red and amber phase and the pedestrian blackout period instead of the flashing phase) as they're commonly found in London.
👍 They're useful for busy pedestrian crossings with high footfall. However, I don't think they work on every crossing though. I agree, I think their introduction has been a good idea, especially for busy urban areas 😎
They are so widespread in Russia. 90 per cent of crossings in Moscoware equipped with LED counters that are actually equipped into the little circles where red and green guys pop up.
I've seen Russia have these countdowns lights for pedestrians. I have also noticed that the for the road vehicle traffic lights, the green light flashes before they change to amber and red 👍
Thanks very much John! Glad you enjoyed. The car was just moving out the way of the emergency vehicle and didn't want to pull away from the raised section of curb.
@@jbb3design British traffic lights only have the coloured men, and they only flash on one specific type of crossing, where the green man will flash to say you may not begin crossing, but may finish crossing, and cars may proceed if you're not crossing still. On standard traffic signals and all other crossings, the man is either red or green, with no flashing, and may just be blank (no red or green) when you may not start crossing. Our signals are old, but it's pretty hard to change any standards now, considering the numbers of signals and the 'heritage' argument.
To be honest, British traffic lights have never been super clear when they just go 'blank' for pedestrians when the cycle is ending.
Most ones don't do that outside big cities. In other places, the amber light flashes

I wish more crossings in the UK had these
More of these countdowns are being installed across the UK by the sounds of it.
@@UKLevelCrossingsChannel indeed, in Bath there are quite a lot around the railway station
@@UKLevelCrossingsChannelit's mostly in london
Ikr I love the countdown lights ❤
There are millions of this type of crossing by me!
There's none in Kent. I've never seen these elsewhere other than in London. That's what I decided to film this one in Torquay, Devon.
Those type of traffic lights are common in the Philippines the countdown screen is even bigger

I've only ever seen the countdowns in London and I don't think I've filmed a Pedex crossing before 😉
@@UKLevelCrossingsChannel Some Pedex crossings like this one have countdown timers, some don't.
I've been to Torquay before and seen those they're quite cool
Oh. These countdown traffic lights are also in Hungary. I noticed some of them 😉
I have noticed these traffic light countdowns in other countries too 😎👍
The traffic lights where i live, has the red man flashing a few times. It does that after the green man.
Remember back when the timer was barely a thing on these type of traffic lights?
Yeah I do. I remember seeing these in London, I think they were introduced around 2010, and finding them quite cool.
@@UKLevelCrossingsChannel I started seeing them around 2012 - 2013
Great video! Countdown pedestrian signals are extremely common here in the US, lol.
Thanks 😎 Not so common in the UK, although they're now appearing in many large cities and towns now 👍
Good video mate. 😁
Thanks mate 😎
I haven't really seen any of these outside of London. Nice vid.
Neither of I, but I assume they've been installed in many other UK towns and cities. Thanks 👍
0:50 maybe he is Cobra emergency videos, we will never know!
They’ve got them outside the entrance to Manchester Oxford Road station, they’ve been there about a year or so now. Good idea really.

Yeah, ik these are in some parts of the Buckingham Palace area, I'm pretty sure
You can find these pretty much everywhere in London, they are very common.

Always a great video from Jamie! Excited to see each one! that car who reversed was a bit of a dick tho

Now... what do they do with crossing signals at the button? 😅
Odd....no flashing stop hand with countdown.
UK have 'man' figures instead of hands
@@UKLevelCrossingsChannel not meant about UK and USA standard.

What place that this in
The title says so
In France, pedestrian call buttons do not work. It's fake. 😁😅
In the Netherlands they sound of the traffic light is actually a wood pecker! Lmao
It is always interesting looking at foreign traffic lights ☺️☺️
That blue car has blocked a crossing
0:50 WHOOP WHOOP IT'S THE SOUND OF THE POLICE
That Car Jumped A Red Light And The Blocked The Pedestrian Crossing. Blocking A Pedestrian Crossing Is Illegal
Well, the driver had to move for the ambulance and then he reversed off the curb. Idk if it's illegal or not.
Nice Jamie 😂
Thanks 😉
