This is hilarious to me personally because during my last flight I was in the exact opposite situation, I was the sleeping window seat person with the window blind down, except there was no sunset because it was the middle of the day. Let me tell you the middle seat lady did NOT give a shit. She opened the window blind, blasted me with direct sunrays across my eyes and then proceeded to take a photoshoot above my body while my (at this point wide awake) eyes watched her choose a filter. I was flabbergasted at the disregard for any decorum. I can only wish a crumb of that confidence upon the question asker.
I had a guy do that to me, just...repeatedly throughout a flight and he'd apologize each time because he was VERY up in my grill but he kept. doing. it. I think I remember the man in the aisle seat gently scolding him (I of course am too cowardly to ever say something)

I missed a connection once and had to take a last minute middle seat from chicago to dallas. I fell asleep watching the shining and felt guilty for existing. The middle seat holds no power.
Justin describing the powers of each of the airplane seats fully justified my decision to spend $20 purely so I would have the aisle seat's power of wind on an upcoming flight. I do not need or want to be powered by the sun and I cannot be unmoving in the middle.

If I’m ~6 miles in the goddamn sky, soaring through clouds, my only consolation for being crammed between a bunch of strangers being the beauty and majesty of our shared planet, I’M OPENING THE GODDAMN WINDOW. Airline food amiright? Ngl though one of the biggest consolations of slogging it out to be a pilot is the coveted front seat. Best one in the house, plus a bed on long haul if you can let yourself sleep comfortably with someone else running the ship (that's never as easy as you'd like it to be).

I used to fly weekly or more for work across the country. Flights at all times of day/night. The important thing here is as soon as you book a ticket is to check and see what seats are open and what best suits your needs for that particular flight. You can mostly change for free or have to pay a few dollars extra. Sometimes i would pay out of pocket to upgrade, but i was never miserable.
