    What was your favourite part of the vlog? If you have any questions please leave them in the comments, I would love to hear your thoughts about the video, about markets or about small businesses!

    I did two craft fairs. The first was so bad because I didn’t realize how long it would take to set up. The second, I set up beautifully and sold nothing. 😄 I decided to give away all the supplies from that craft and just enjoy crafting as a hobby. I applaud you for not giving up and I hope you sell everything you ever make.❤

      Hi Sheila!
      GIRL, I totally feel you!! Nothing worse than putting in so much effort getting ready for a market, let alone on the day and be disappointed! I have definitely leant the hard way that its always better to have more time when setting up, lately I need MINIMUM 2 hours which is kind of crazy 😂 but it allows me to hopefully not get stressed when the early birds start arriving!
      Im sorry markets didn't work out for you, but so glad to hear you're still enjoying crafting as a hobby!
      Thank you so much for the support! ❤️ all the best x

      Just saying, if you’ve given up after one craft fair of not selling anything.. you’ve kinda wasted your potential. I know genuinely famous local artists who do craft fairs and have times where they may sell nothing, or sell just a few items. It happens to literally everyone. Spent more on gas going than they made. Then the next fair all the sudden it’s booming. That’s just how they work.
      That all being said, if you genuinely just enjoy it more as a hobby that’s great. It’s just….I’m sure your community would really appreciate your work. It just takes time, trial, and error. I know sometimes it seems impossible to put so much effort and money I to something with zero return. But think about all the people who saw your stuff, thought it was cute, but decided not to go for it. Then they see you the next time and think “I really regretted not getting it last time!” Or they’ve now budgeted to be able to buy something. Or you’ve just become more a presence in that community so they remember you.

      What a lovely comment Brie! Thanks so much for that, I completely agree with what you said! Disappointment is part of being a small business, and things beyond your control will influence how much or how little you sell! Some markets I do amazing and some I think I shouldn’t even have come but you never know who you’re gonna meet or who will see your products because that one person saw you that day! I have so many opportunities come from that! Like another market organiser seeing me at a not so great day and inviting me to join a bigger market!
      I definitely think we should give it a decent go, but we have to be prepared to do it. I always say we have to be objective enough about our products to not be offended when they don’t sell, and be able to pivot or understand why you didn’t sell in that specific setting!
      Thanks so much for your comment it was very on point and motivating, at least for me 😘

      @@BMarie774 I hear you. I appreciate your supportive words, but I don’t regret getting rid of that stress in my life. My passion is in creating, not selling. Thankfully, I have a creative job and plenty of crafty things that are fulfilling. ♥️

    To be honest, when I'm at craft fairs and the like, I'm truly more likely to be drawn to the smaller booths or venders that look like they don't have a ton of money behind them. If there's too much glitz and gloss it just comes off (to me) as more big business than small. If I want to shop big business I can go to Walmart... So I can promise, I would hit your booth before I hit any of the "bigger names with more money". ❤ I'm not there to buy the "genuine sheepskin ugg boots" that the first booth on the left was offering. 😉
    *** I've only watched the first 3 minutes, I may have more to say lol.
    And... I do.😂
    I LOVE your earring hang tags! Absolutely adorable! I don't know why you say you think you don't look professional... I think your display looks fantastic!

      GIRL your vibes are ✨impeccable✨ haha your comment made me smile, thank you so much for being such a ray of sunshine!
      I really appreciate you saying that, I honestly feel so insecure when I go to bigger events that my displays look bad, my table cloths are old 😂 like stupid stuff like that and mum always reminds me that people are not gonna be looking at that, they are gonna be looking at the product 😅 And yes I definitely agree, when Im there to shop small, I want to shop SMALL haha it was a bit of an interesting market where I felt like I was the only (or one of the few) truly hand made vendors and others were big clothing brands.... BUT... I still went and did the thing!! so im proud of myself for that and for not feeling intimidated or feeling it but still doing that!
      thank you so much again for your comment and support, hope you have an amazing day and hope to chat again soon ❤️😘

    my husband and I did markets many yrs ago now, the weather is the worst thing you could deal with at am outdoor market. I remember one time, we had a wind issue as well.... but with NO Marquee and we were selling primarily jewellery , so pretty light items, well the wind picked up and blew everything everywhere, it was all over the ground , other stall holders even came running over to help us pick stuff up off the ground.
    but we also had a lot of stuff stolen as you said customers didnt really pay attention to what was happening around them. I'm sorry you had that experience, but your young and you did what y had to do, it wont be the first time it happens. luckily it wasnt raining at the same time! LOL Diana xx

      Girl omg I can't imagine how stressful that must have been for you guys!! 😰
      I did consider taking the marquees down and trading without but we came to the conclusion that it would mean more damage and problems with our products like you experienced too! It's SO hard to know what to do in the moment and have to make sudden decisions like that! And yes for sure I had to think of the customers wellbeing because they just didn't care 🤦‍♀️
      Yes absolutely I did what I had to and now I can hopefully be better prepared for future situations like this! OMG if it was raining I wouldn't even go tbh that's a whole other stress I don't want to even deal with 😂

    Outdoor events are so challenging! One suggestion I got that I’ll share with you is to put slits in the side walls, I think near the tops and bottoms so that the “sails” effect might be less? I can’t say whether it will work but in theory it seems like it would help. My worst experience was dealing with rain… water resistant does NOT mean waterproof, had a bit of leaking from the top center plus as water started to flow over the pavement, my stashed containers under the tables began to get soaked. Now I bring plastic to put under containers and my bottom layer of containers are the plastic bins. I think you made the best decision for safety reasons. I had a helper get injured, struck in the head, when a neighboring vendor’s canopy went flying, they took the weights off before they took the fabric off. My canopy was ruined when theirs landed on it, and they didn’t even offer to replace it or pay anything even towards replacing it.

    • @lazy_daisycreations
      @lazy_daisycreations  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Omg aren't they!! When they are good they are really good but when they are bad... makes you wish you had stayed in bed 😭
      Oh that's an interesting idea, yes it seems like it would work in theory! I wonder!
      Oh no sounds like you had a horrible experience, im so sorry 🥲 rain is the one thing that I do not play with, all my backing cards are paper so if they are predicting even a little bit, I won't go... its not worth it to ruin my stock and customers likely won't show either so 🤷‍♀️
      Oh wow Marie that's insane!! Im so glad I made that decision then, I could never forgive myself if something happened to someone because of me!! That sounds like an awful experience im so sorry that happened!

      Hi Jasmine! Oh no so sorry you had that experience too!
      That's so interesting so did that work ok for you? because that was literally my first instinct of what to do! my products are very light and on paper cards so I don't know how that would have worked for me specifically but I would love to know more about your experience and what worked for you so I can have some ideas for next time!
      thanks for the support lovely ❤️

    I would have packed up like you because I know those disastrous thoughts of what could happen. But now after the fact, I wonder if keeping a table going could be an option if it happens again. On the second day, I would have gone with a single 3x3 gazebo because I wondered if the double gazebo generated way too much updraft for that area

    • @lazy_daisycreations
      @lazy_daisycreations  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      Hi Cherylene! Glad to know you would have done the same thing 😅
      oh gosh so many what ifs went back and forth in my head! my initial instinct was to yeah take the marquees down and trade just with the table but mum made a good point that the marquees were at least protecting our products a bit so we decided not to do it!
      I think coming back with just one marquee would have been a really good idea, but I don't know about staying in the same spot, it seemed the problem was in that corner specifically and we didn't have any other marquees next to us to block any wind so I think yeah looking back if we could have asked for a different spot and gone back with just one marquee it could have worked!
      The only thing is that by then I was completely exhausted and my stress had been so high for so many hours that the thought of going through it again just broke me 🥲 so I decided mostly for my mental health to not go back

    This video is over 5 months old at the time of me commenting so I doubt you'll see it however it might lend an idea to someone else who might be commenting or reading comments. I live in the Nevada desert and until COvid turned the world upside down I would do multiday Hot air balloon festivals which are held in large open fields where MAJOR gusts of wind are common. Traditional weights and even tie downs did not accomplish the task of holding tents in place. I adopted the practice of using heavy gridwall displays into my set up and would attach them to the tent frame. This added additional weight as well as additional display space for my products. I watched tents take to the air and come crashing down in crowds. NOT something you want to witness OR be the tent owner!! The event coordinators ended up making each vendor have 2 million dollars of insurance coverage to do the events due to the possibility of disasters that could take place. I found the gridwalls played a huge part in keeping my tent grounded!!

    Hi Victoria! I just watched your video, and I'm sorry to hear that you had to pack up early at that first market!! At least your second market went well! :D In case no one's mentioned it, maybe just remove the canopy cloth tops so the tents don't fly away and then put away items that would get damaged by sunlight. Good luck with all your future markets!!

    Every stall holders worst nightmare! I’ve had some disaster markets over the past 4 years including a hail storm 😂 Almost every stall holder left that one early. I’ve had bad wind too which kept blowing my products off the stands… I was nearly in tears but fortunately my marquee stayed in place so I held out and it got better. Hopefully your next few markets are better!

    Do you stand in front of your tables or behind them when selling? If you stand behind, I think the displays are too high - need some variation in the heights. Ever think of a free standing wire rack display (I think it would be too heavy if made of wood) that turns? Just a thought. 😊

    I haven't done any markets myself, I have no way of getting my stuff to the markets to sell, it's hard when I don't have a license to drive snd have no one here that could take me... so I can only focus on online atm... being an Adeladian doesn't make it any easier...

    I’m so proud of you for putting the safety of yourself and your customers first! This is what a good business owner should always do! It could cost you, the amount of an injury that wouldn’t be worth it for anyone! The market management should been on top of the problem and sent maintenance or extra help for you!! My grandparents owned a pawn/jewelry store for 40 years the were held up and robbed 4 times! The very last time my GM said that was it! They almost lost their lives and my grandfather had to shoot one of the men to protect my GM. After that will still had some merchandise to sell, so we would go to an indoor market on the weekends to try to finish up selling the products. It was a lot of time and effort and people weren’t really in the market to buy expensive jewelry. It was an indoor building with lists of booths and we had the same booth for months and got to know our neighbors so, if anyone needed help we all helped each other out. It’s good to have extra hands to help when needed. Definitely I think in markets they should keep a couple of open spots when they can in case something goes wrong so a booth can relocate. Also, workers and or security walking around watching out for issues to help people with!
    I’m happy for you and your mom and would like to purchase some products from you for my daughter and her friends! School will be ending for the summer and I like to give gifts to her friends. Is this all of your collection on line? It seemed there was much more on the displays! I really need some choice for my daughter who her twice tried ear piercings failed and we can’t try again until she is an adult and has to have surgery! Do you have a catalog or can you send me more pics of items to choose
    from if you have them available? I am in the US, I hope you ship here. This is my first time seeing your page and you are a very inspiring person and responsible business woman and I commend you for that and would like to contribute to help you as much as possible!
    Thanks, 🙏 God bless you for doing the right thing!!!

    • @lazy_daisycreations
      @lazy_daisycreations  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thank you Laura! It means a lot to me that you think so! 🥰 yes absolutely the risk on an injury is not worth even the best sales day! just having a read of all the horror stories here in the comments make me glad I did the right thing!
      WOW what an insane story, im so glad your grandparents are ok!! 😱
      Yes absolutely, I think a lot of it is experience, and having run markets myself, somethings you don't know or expect unless you have been a smallholder yourself so I think it was more inexperience than anything else in this case! I don't blame them but I had to make the call when they should have done it.
      You're so kind, im so happy you want to support my shop! Most of my products are online, but some from the new bow collection haven't been uploaded yet and most of my sale stuff is for the market only - It takes too much time to stocktake and update everything online when im doing one or two markets every single weekend 😂 But if you see something from the market you would like for your daughter and her friends just let me know and I can send you some more information! Yes I definitely ship to the US!
      Thank you again for all your thoughtful and sweet comments, have a lovely day! ❤️

    I think you did the right thing - I would have as well. I've done shows for 30 years and I try to avoid outdoor shows truth be told. I've been through wind, downpour of rain, extreme heat, cold, dust (near a dirt field), bug bites from being set up on the grass, etc. It just takes away the joy of selling, so I do get ya.

    • @lazy_daisycreations

      I couldn't have put it better myself!! That's exactly what it does, it takes away the joy of selling!! Thank you for putting in to words! And that's they part I get the most enjoyment from, so to not be able to focus on that because of any weather conditions is so frustrating!!
      I definitely prefer indoor venues myself and for the past few years if it's predicted to rain, be too cold or too hot I just don't even attend, for my own mental sanity. You only know the experience if you have gone through it yourself, it's too stressful! 😩

    You did the best thing you could have done at that time! Safety is our first responsibility. Too bad for less sales, but that's the risk of a business owner. The organisation should appreciate your decision. I once had a market where the weather was so bad (wind and thunder) that the organisation cancelled completely early in the morning when we were already setting up. Unfortunately for the possible sales that day, but there were no accidents and that is the most important.

    • @lazy_daisycreations
      @lazy_daisycreations  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thank you Ina, means a lot that you can also appreciate the seriousness of what could have gone wrong! I really didn't want for something to happen first to THEN decide to do something, some might think that over cautious but after reading some of the horror stories just here in the comments I think I did the right thing!
      I was honestly expecting them to react badly but she was understanding of my decision and said they are looking forward to having me at the next one so I think that's nice, but yeah would have just expected them to have made a risk assessment once they were aware of the situation 🤷‍♀️ but hopefully they leant from it, some things you don't have an idea could happen until they do and then you know better for next time!
      Thank you for the support lovely ❤️

    Another time it had rained like three times. We had vinyl table clothes for covering in case it rained. People kept coming in, peeking under the covers,etc. we ended up having great sales! I’m in Florida, it’s always windy here, usually when it rains, it’s not long.

    We did outdoor markets long ago now but when possible we also staked to the ground besides the weights and also brought extra along to tie the middle of the canopies down just in case of the high winds. People would have to move around them then. It worked😊

      Thank you for your suggestions Alice, we are definitely going to bring extra weights from now on! Unfortunately at this market (and most I attend) you can't put any pegs on the ground (this one was on the street but others in parks prohibit it so you don't damage the grass 🙄) but definitely going to have some back up plans from now on!

    I would have also closed down. I was almost impaled by a neighbors tent, one time at a market. I remind all the event coordinators to make sure that they put that all tents must be weighted down. The tent missed me literally by about 2 inches to my face. It was awful. You never know when a wind gust is going to get you.

      Mary OMG that's crazy!! 😱😱😱 wow that's seriously a horror story but actually EXACTLY what I mean!! This is the kind of thing that could have happened and I could not have forgiven myself if someone got hurt because of me! We definitely had weights and we have never had issues with them but it was just that spot and the winds that day was a horrible combination
      Thanks for sharing your story, so glad you are ok ❤️

    It was so bad you were worried about the safety of customers… but absolutely no one else had an issue? Even the booths right next to you? If it was a true safety issue to the point where you had to pack up and leave, did you ask the organizer why they weren’t moving booths that were effected, giving refunds, closing, etc??? Were you refunded the fees you paid for your spot? All in all, to each their own, everyone gets to make their own decisions when it comes to their business… but it sounds like maybe you over reacted a bit? Would you agree now that a bit of time has passed?

      Hi Lovely, thank you so much for your comment, I think you're making some really good points!
      I don't know if it was easy to see in the video but we were kind of in an unique spot at the very start of the market and we only had one "stall" next to us which just had racks of clothes, nothing else not even a marquee, so they were not affected we didn't have anyone in front or in any other sides so the location problem seemed to be unique to our double marquee set up. From where we were we couldn't see anyone else having the same problem and the organiser when alerted said no one else had mentioned anything to her 🤷‍♀️ so I think it wasn't the point of closing the entire market because our location was the only one affected and we couldn't really move mid market without inconveniencing a lot of people. We didn't have any site fees for this market as it was organised by the local council, so we didn't have any issues with refunds either, but in any case it was a weather issue and my decision to leave so I don't think I would have had any grounds to ask for a refund if we were the only ones affected... but maybe if I had paid for the site it would have been a different story!
      Looking back now a few weeks have passed I definitely can see things with different eyes! I think the decision to leave on that first day I would have done again as I was seriously concerned for safety (just have a quick read of some of the horror stories here in the comments section) BUT I do kind of regret not going back the next day. I kind of in the moment couldn't see a better way of keeping the marquees down if the same thing happened because I was so stressed but like someone suggested here in the comments I think having gone back the next day with only one site would have possibly been a better decision!
      What do you think you would have done in my place? im genuinely curious as it might help me make better decisions in the future!😊 Im always open to advice! have you experienced bad weather like this in a market yourself? I feel it's a very unique experience of feeling the weight of other peoples safety on your shoulders!
      All the best!

    I do a weekly farmers market selling my sarcastic cards. This could be my last year as we have a grandson who is 2 and we help with daycare and also another one due in September. It is alot of work to keep up with stock, especially if we get lots of tourists. I sell approx. 1500 cards from May to October. I made alot of stock in the off season for a Christmas market and so I have lots of cards for this year. It is a good time to maybe think about stopping.

    Sheez. That sounds horrendous. I don’t know if it was at all possible but I would have thought that the site manager/event coordinator might have suggested you put your car behind your stall as a buffer or move you to another location. Of course they don’t control the weather but they also have a responsibility to the people coming into the market as well as providing your guys with a location that is safe. Even if you had no marquees, it sounds like your goods would have got blown over.
    I bet you needed the following day to get over that!
    One thing that made me worry for you, those big boards hide your view of your stock. If you just turned them slightly, so both you and the vendor could see them, it might stop thefts but also allow you to talk with your customers.
    Good luck for next time ❤

      @lazy_daisycreations  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thank you, it was 😭 Unfortunately we couldn't at this specific market as it was in the centre of town and we had to park our cars far away...
      Yes I definitely agree, they should have been aware especially after we let them know, but I think what happened is that they had no experience with anything like that happening and honestly didn't know what to do and just froze. Rather than my instinct was to act before something happened I think they were just frozen or thought we will do something if it comes to it, which is not a very good mentality to have when you are responsible for so many people's safety...
      I definitely did need a mental health day afterwards! Just looking back now I kind of regret not going back but the state that I was in that first day there was just no way...
      Thank you for the suggestion on the displays! I completely agree they are a tad too big 😅 I have gotten new ones made but haven't gotten around to painting them yet so I haven't been able to use them!
      thank you so much!

    Just found your channel and been thinking about selling at a market nearby. We have 3, but they want $200.00, and they are on weekdays, so I don't see sales covering the out of pocket, especially after stopping by them and seeing so few people there. I would have to way overcharge for my soaps and jewelry.

    • @lazy_daisycreations
      @lazy_daisycreations  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hi Lovely! Thanks for joining the channel 🥰
      That's so exciting that you're looking at starting markets! They are so fun!
      That does seem excessive, especially if you didn't see a lot of foot traffic, could you possibly start with a smaller (cheaper) market and work your way from there? Some markets are definitely worth the cost, for example the market I did on the Sunday at A Plus was $200 for a 2mx3m site which is tiny BUT its an indoor venue and a heavily advertised market for a very niche part of the population, plus I had attended many times as a customer so I knew it was a good one, so for me, definitely worth it. If I hadn't attended before I don't think I would have spent that much personally. Also keep in mind you might have to travel a bit to find decent markets, I don't currently do any in my town, I have to travel for every market I do nowadays!
      Good luck and let me know how you get on! 😘

    That kind of happened to me one time. There is a hot air balloon rally that happens 45 minutes from where we live which is where My Husband and I are from and I had all of this hot air balloon stuff. My mom made things she’s an excellent seamstress. I had jewelry And it was all hot air balloon thing. Well, it started getting windy and my husband had to go get some tarps and hang them up and this is downtown like right in the middle of town and the wind got worse and worse and people started taking down their stuff because everything was blowing everywhere and we eventually had to pack up and leave. It was so bad we said never again.

    • @KneppwoodatHome
      @KneppwoodatHome 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Honestly…heavy weights and we don’t use walled canopies…and whichever way the wind is blowing, we drop that side down a notch, so the wind is encouraged to go over the top…I hope that makes sense…It helps…but sometimes you just gotta call it and hope the next event is indoors, lol.

    • @lazy_daisycreations
      @lazy_daisycreations  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That's a really good idea! I honestly thought the walls would do more bad than good too but it was a Hail Mary at that point 😂 I did the lowering of the sides too, unfortunately it didn't work for this occasion, I think we were just in a wind tunnel kind of location so there just wasn't any breaks... haha yes that's why I love indoor venues, so much less stress!!

  • @shopwildvenus
    @shopwildvenus 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    Absolutely I would not have gone back for day 2, it's such a risk and also as you said, the stress of the previous day would still be there for the next day. Hopefully the organiser will make a note on that spot to see if it's a common wind trap.
    Ive been at markets too where the wind was just too much, my friends dad dislocated his arm trying to save the whole bank of gazebos going up and at another market in a very muddy field, the wind whipped up half the gazebos, one spun upside down and got wedged on top of a small truck, the weights flew off and one smashed through a car window. It was terrifying and very lucky no one got injured!
    The organisers were nowhere to be seen and when I sent feedback I was told that you should've had adequate weights... We did!
    Market organisers should take more responsibility for when weather turns it sour and have a plan of action ready rather than just hoping for the best.

    • @lazy_daisycreations
      @lazy_daisycreations  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thank you lovely, that makes me feel so much better to know you wouldn't have gone back the next day, I felt like I was just giving up but honestly mentally I couldn't have gone through that again 😭 I hope they do, its such a shame because I didn't have issues with that spot before and I specifically requested it because its such a good location! Just bad luck for that weekend I guess, that's the problem with outdoor events isn't it, no two days are the same and u never know what you're gonna get!
      WOW that is a horrifying story!! how lucky no one was injured but oh wow... that just makes me believe even more I made the right decision 😱 I absolutely believe that, because we had adequate weights as well and have NEVER had issues with them and ive been doing markets for 3+ years! when the wind is that strong there is no weight that will stop it, like I mentioned the organiser brought us a commercial size weight and that still didn't help!
      having organised markets myself I do believe the organiser when made aware of my specific issue should have done a risk assessment and herself made the call that it was unsafe to continue trading in that spot at least. It was really awkward to say the least to have to make that decision myself and have to pack up while customers and other stallholders were looking wondering what was happening. I think they just have never experienced that and that's absolutely fine, but they have to act fast and make decisions BEFORE something happens, not after 😒
      Thank you so much for your comment and support lovely ❤️
