Big News | Redesign Ep.3 | The Tiny Garden

- Lots of progress has been made on the main growing space of the vegetable garden. I have been creative and upcycled my raised bed pallet collars and decided to make changes to the plans I shared with you before Christmas!
It is time to make some much needed room for my cherry tree, build another wooden raised bed and shovel more soil!

Hey Sylvia, I love the birds on there too 🐦 !! I had the plum tree popped there over winter temporally as I was moving things around and I noticed all the bird in there jumping from the tree to the feeder, so I thought to myself they would love that if it was there permanently! 😆 I'm going through so much bird food 🙈

Fingers crossed I might have more growing space soon! I also applied for a space in a community garden as well incase the allotments are full!
Ireland is a haven of green lush growth, and in the sunshine I couldn't imagine being anywhere else if I'm honest! 😍 Roo Boo was so tired after this 5k walk but we did some command training when the camera was away and she snored all afternoon on the sofa 🐾

Looks like you live in a very beautiful part of Ireland with the sea there and then pretty river walks. The river walk was so beautiful 😍 and it's the perfect time of year for it as well because by summer all the bugs are out trying to bite you haha 😆

Thank you Robin 🥰 I changed my mind so much, it was pure flook that I decided to stack the pallet collars, gave it a go and really liked the way it looked!

@@thetinygarden_ Mine evolved over decades. Who am I kidding it’s still evolving. Temps will take a dip down over the next week to the takes your breath away a bit level…but that’s normal.
Keep up the good work! I was just a stone overweight and became diabetic at age 39. I am very active now and have ny diabetes managed, but I wish I'd been more careful when I was younger. Well done and good luck 😃😃x

Hi, I came accros your channel last year & I'm thoroughly enjoying watching you, your videos are so calming, I'm a keen gardener myself & last year was the first time I actually grew vegetables, I lost my Dad the year before so threw myself into gardening, I've got one side all flowers, well in summer I will 😊, & the other side veg, I had some lovely harvest, potatoes, beans, carrots, cabbage, I couldn't believe I actually grew them 😂, peppers too, anyway just wanted to tell you I love your channel, Happy New year ..

@@thetinygarden_ Thank you so much, my Dad was the one who actually got me into gardening years ago, I've always grown flowers still do but last year was my first time with vegetables. Yes it's so satisfying when you reap the rewards isn't it. I grew my peppers in my conservatory as I know they like to be warm & if we went out in hot summer days I brought them in so they wouldn't suffer 😆, it sounds silly but I got attached to them lol, they were so pretty as I got red green & yellow, I grew the Californian sweet peppers. Looking forward to your next video xx

We're all trying to get more steps in. The Christmas overindulgence is a killer 😅 Im looking forward to having the biscuit boxes emptied and out of the house 😂.....

I had the plum tree around that area temporarily while I was moving bits around and the birds loved it, so I thought I must put a tree there for the birds and there are so many more birds visiting now, it must make them feel safe 🥰

Love the teird beds, could make it a square foot garden bed, as you'll get lots in, in a small space, what ever happens, it's meant to be, exciting, about looking for an allotment, fingers crossed.

I've been shovelling soil for weeks it feels like 🤣 I think the new cherry tree planter holds the equivalent of a bath tubs worth of soil!!

The renovation is really taking shape, looking fab.
I usually have my carrots in a container up off the ground as apparently carrot fly can't fly to high.
Hope you manage to get the allotment it will open up so much more opportunities with the extra space.

@thetinygarden_ Carl has set some chilli seeds away and some onions. But it will be March before we do much more.
We are doing a brassica bed not a full cage like the one we have put better secure and netted as the cage produces much better. X
I have some onion seeds on the go since last year, I sowed them in late June I think after reading a post about it 🤷♀️ I am not sure what way that will work as everyone seems to be sowing now 🤣 I saw on your community post Carl has channel too I must go over and check it out!
Netting for the brassicas was a game changer for me this year. I am looking forward to see what you do with the other side of the brassica cage 👀xx

Something had the tops off my field beans 🫘 🙄 only growing as a manure so not that bothered. Your broad beans look grand, more beans coming your way this year 😊

I have everything crossed for an allotment, there are a few community growing spaces as well where you can rent a bed so I have that option too 🤞
Wonder is it rabbits or something eating them? I remember your field beans actually last year, they looked more compact than my plants, I've used all my broad bean seed now so I could give them ago next season, I think you can still eat field beans 🤔🫘

4 year waiting list for any of the 2 allotments in my area. Your also not allowed a shed or greenhouse on them. Fingers crossed for you to get your allotment. 🤞🤞Good job on the changes to the tiny garden it looks great! Well done 👍
Hey Mags! 4 years wow such a long time, I had a good chat with one of the allotment committee members and they said they were looking forward to growing together 🥰 I took that as semi good news 😆 but they might come back and give me a proper wait time..I'll keep you posted! That is a shame about not being allowed a small shed or greenhouse, where would all your tools go 🤷♀️

You mentioned bringing more pollinators in… when the weather gets better hanging baskets and small pots of flowers on your back wall may make your garden more visible to them?

That is a really good idea 🌼🌺I must do some research into flowers and understand the bloom timings better so that I can get a nice flush throughout the season, I hope to grow some more from seed this year too!! Hope you have been keeping well 🤗xx

@@thetinygarden_ sorry to be a nuisance but I’ve just been on Amazon ( buying seeds yet again 🙄🤷♀️🤣) I got some sweet pea seeds and just had a thought they would look beautiful climbing up your back wall and trailing over… they wouldn’t take growing space up in your beds as grow upward. Loved by pollinators and you would have plenty supply of cut posy’s for indoors . I need to stop buying, I only have a garden and it’s not big 😆🤗
You're not a nuscience at all, I love getting ideas!! I have a lot to learn with flowers, after reading this I went to a local seed supplier to look for sweet peas, they sell a wild Italian mix that looks gorgeous and have a strong scent. I have never smelt them before so I am dying to find out what that is like. It's so hard to reign in the seed buying. It just feels so necessary 😆

I'm really loving your tiny garden space, because it's giving me so much inspiration for my garden.
I have a bit more space than you probably do, but I have two long spaces that are only a metre wide down either side of my house and they get limited sunlight in winter but the Australian summer heat can be a bit unbearable so thinking of maybe grape vine or I do have a kiwiberry vine on one side, but it lacks a proper trellis for me to make use of the shade it would give. I think a tiered garden bed would be a great solution for maximising my desire to grow dwarf fruit trees and then other edibles and flowers that have different needs to the fruit trees.
The three tiers are so funky, I can't wait to plant them up!! 😍

I am yet to get any fruit on my trees 😆😅 but they are still quite young!

@thetinygarden_ I always end up combining words because my brain moves quicker than my mouth- have to repeat myself a lot lol. I'm aiming to add foraging along with growing this year, along with getting fitter like yourself. Also want to get into preserving food and I found some recipes online for pickled blackberries and thought that was something you could try too, combining your pickling with your walks 😀
I am the exact same!! Always having to repeat myself 😆 that's an awesome set of goals 👏 I would love to be able to grow loads of tomatoes and learn how to can them all! I don't have the set up yet so I'll stick with pickling this year! The blackberries recipe im going to research that it sound very interesting. I pick them every year we have hedgerows of them all around growing! 🫐🍓
