Power folding side mirror should be standard in every model. This CUV is still the best looking car in this segment with the new infotainment system and turbo this is on top of the list for those who prefers speed and luxury. This is the best time to buy CX-5 it's the complete package.👌 👌
@Paul Attard The first thing I noticed about the Tucson is... there is no turbo option, so you're stuck on 187 hp., while the CX-5 can have a turbo that gives you 227 hp, or 250 hp w/ premium gas, and the turbo gives over 300 torque at 4,000 rpm. The CX-5 has a larger fuel tank. The Tucson has Idle Stop/Go... the Mazda does not. With Idle Stop/Go, the engine will shut down every time you stop at a traffic light, and then restart when to let up on the brakes. IMO, this is a terrible and costly thing to have, just for saving a few tablespoons of fuel. Idle Stop/Start wears out many parts on, and in, the engine. In 2021, no new Mazda in the U.S. was given the Idle Stop/Stop technology, which is a big reason why I bought a Mazda. That might change in 2022, though, so keep investigating.
Having owned a Gen 5 CR-V, and having just replaced it with a 2021 CX-5, I can confirm everything you say about the quality, solidity & driving dynamics. The CR-V wins on internal volume & fuel economy, but pales in comparison in every other respect. Great job by the way - this is one of the best & well thought-out video reviews I have seen,
In this day and age when companies like Dodge never seem to get any better (they make the "do not buy". list every year), Mazda is refining and giving you things you normally would find in a $55,000 European car. Best looking suv, quickest and best handling compact SUV in the price class. Easily the best interior.
My next vehicle (my first ever automatic) will likely be a Mazda, simply because they still use standard 6-speed automatics, instead of garbage push-belt CVT's.
I agree totally, that’s why I just bought the CX 5 , and traded in my Subaru outback, they have reverted over to that horrible stop start transmission which I just hate, so I walked away and got the CX 5, it’s a great car
Excellent video content and quality. Accurate information. Very informative. I bought my oldest daughter a brand new 2012 CX-5 and now the car is 8 years old and rides like if it was new. No major problems whatsoever. This past weekend I helped my son in law to buy a new 2020 Mazda 6 since my positive experience with Mazda in general. Keep up the good work guys!
I just bought the 2021 cx5 carbon edition turbo for my wife and we both love this car. We did a lot of research on other brands before our purchase and the cx5 was the clear winner! Great review on the GT Reserve!
Mazda and Volvo are the only makers that I know of that make constant, but noticeable and necessary revisions to their cars each model year. I like that Mazda knows the compact CUV class is red-hot and they know that the CX-5 has to remain relevant. While I hate they still did not give the CX-5 all LED exterior lighting(turn signals/reverse lights) like the CX30(which is odd, considering the 30 is supposed to be a notch below), it is good to know they've finally addressed the technical shortcomings.
My only complaint about the CX-5 is the cylinder deactivation feature . . . on a 4-cylinder of all things. I'd rather suffer through auto start-stop than cylinder deactivation on a 4-banger.
GRIPES no one is talking about: The gas tank is really small on these. I find myself having to fill up less than 300 miles of range and that is highway driving The rear seat charging ports and heated seat buttons are placed VERY inconveniently. You lose access if 3 people are sitting in the back or if your rear passengers do not know about it being in the arm rest. The key fob makes the buttons so tiny to press. Large buttons are always better, especially when you have gloves on or press the button while the key fob is in your pocket. Then some things that were pointed out like the hands-free tailgate, the panoramic moonroof, and smaller storage than competition all make it stand out. Would also love to see headlights and taillights have actual LED turn signals and not incandescent. Rear leg room could be better but not bad, and MPGs could be a lot better but the biggest thing holding it back is that it does not have an efficient transmission like an 8 or 10 speed or even a reliable CVT like Honda. Mazda could be a HUGE player if it just pushed it an extra 10% in effort

I have a 2019 CX-5 Grand Touring Reserve in red (next to the top Signature model) and aside from the new paddle shifters and a bit more torque my Reserve is pretty much the same vehicle as the 2021. I've upgraded the interior with several good quality Chinese made items from Ali Express for very reasonable prices. Also I replaced the "low rent" hood prop rod with two gas struts. I've added (for over $400. with labor!) factory lighted door sill "CX-5" plates, also MAZDA roof racks and retracting trunk cover. Upgrades make this car even more luxurious. ** Adding 1/2 tank 100 octane gas to 91 octane "western US premium" gas REALLY wakes up this turboed engine.

I believe you are incorrect or at least it needs clarifying in your statement at 12:35 that only the Signature trim has integrated Navigation. Only the Signature trim has the Navigation data card installed. But all trims have the port in the center arm rest for the Navigation card, which Mazda sells for $450. So, for $450 from Mazda all trims levels can be upgraded to integrated Navigation.
The crappy part for USA is you have milage cap on warranty, Canada has unlimited milage warranty.. it’s nice if you do a lot of driving. In 5 years my wife did 150,000km (93,000miles) and in that time we had 2 kids so she was on maternal leave for 2 of those years. And no real issues, just normal wear and tear and a few TSBs. Had 1 warranty job done, it was a squeaky axle seal, and it only started to make noise after about 40 mins of driving, it was a pain to figure out what it was but no leak, just annoying noise on the highway that can only be heard by younger people, my parents and older mechanics could not hear this noise.
My Lexus GS was stolen and I’ve been looking at crossover SUV’s for my kiddo. I’m test driving one next week. I don’t want a high note but I do want that “luxury” feel inside.
I have a 2020 CX-5 Signature. Mazda needs to step-up their remote start program. It should be standard on the upper trims and should be smart-phone driven. Even my 2017 GMC Acadia had that. I live in Wisconsin so remote start is a big deal.
Thanks, for the review of the 2021 CX-5. I have a 219 CX-5 Signature I bought in December 2019. It's got over 30,000 trouble free miles on it and I love it. I'm getting 23-25 mpg in town and 28-30 mpg on the highway. My only complaints are tht the dark brown nappa leather is too dark, almost black and the existing (old) infotainment system a bit slow. neither are/or should be deal breakers. I plan to keep another 12 plus years like my previous 07 Mazda 6.
Looks great! Did they fix the two things that drives me nuts on my 2017? 1. Full auto up/down on windows besides the drivers window 2. Folding down the rear seats with the headrest up. I’m 6ft and I have to either move my seat up or remove my rear seat row headrest every time I fold it down.
Thanks for this! Great review, I've just a quick question: I'm in the market for a CX-5, would you recommend this 2021 model or a used 2019 or 2020 with low mileage and relatively little wear and tear? In other words, is it worth it to buy the brand new one or are the refinements small enough that you'd just recommend buying an older model?
Thanks! It depends on what your expectations are for the tech. If you don't mind having a more basic and low tech infotainment system then going for the older model won't bother you at all
@@CarConfections great! As long as the speakers are good and bluetooth ready (which from older reviews they should be) then the infotainment does what I want it to do. At least for the savings I would have!
I wish that they offered LED turn singles in the front and the back. Mazda’s already look luxurious, so adding those simple things like the LED’s, makes it look more luxurious and expensive. I know it’s knit picking, but I really wish they would add some nice LED turn signals lol.
Drew, do know if the engine in the CX-5 has cylinder deactivation? I think that CD is just another over-engineered "feature" that will go bad and be a costly repair. CD will be a deal-breaker for me.
Awesome review! I noticed you guys calling this a CUV. Is this not a compact SUV, albeit on the smaller end? I thought CUVs were more along the lines of something like the CX-3 or CX-30? (also Hyundai Kona, Venue, CH-R, HRV, etc.)
Thanks! We were using CUV as Crossover Utility Vehicle but SUV is also fine. We just think of smaller vehicles as crossovers more than the big ones even though all of them are
@@CarConfections Struggling with the cx5 being a compact. Would like something bigger without going to the cx9. And what’s with the faux wood? I thought it was real wood.
The biggest issue for me were the very uncomfortable seats. I'm 6'3 230 and the bolsters on the seat bottom dig into my legs. After about 10 mins it feels like knives stabbing me.
I own a 2016 cx5 gt and this barely changes anything, infact I prefer the black and chrome viper wheels, the only thing I like about this is the rear air, WTH Mazda was thinking missing that out on the top level 2016 is a mystery and the vented seats in the front and heated in the rear but the $25,000 above exchange is not worth it for this.
Had a 13 CX-5 and the power on that generation was trash! Glad I sold it. The newer generation is okay in my opinion, not sure if I’d go back to Mazda. But I’m pretty sure the newer generation is a much better ride than my 13 cx-5
Congrats for getting so many subscribers already, I would like to recommend you the use of lavalier mics, they help so much to concentrate on the voice and almost eliminating background noise.
Will there be an update for Cx5 owners to get the improved infotainment display and camera modes/quality? I got the update for Apple CarPlay and Android auto for my 2017 Cx5 however wanted to ask if Mazda will extend any more software/ hardware updates to the previous model year Cx5s.
We do prefer the CX-5 over the Outback XT because it's going to be a bit quicker and more agile overall. But Outback will have a bit more space if you need it. The Signature basically just adds the extra special luxury touches like Nappa leather, real wood and special finishes
Dilemma time sensitive. My budget is under $400.00 a month lease and my options are. Would you rather have a 2020 cx5 with turbo but crappy infotainment or a 2021 cx5 no turbo but the new infotainment. Thanks in advance
That's a tough call... Personally, I'd probably go turbo because the 2020 infotainment is still decent enough to get the basic stuff done and I love the extra power
@@CarConfections Thank you for your help. I'm feeling the same way. I just never used the old infotainment but people talk like its terrible. I just need basic tasks.
Crappy infotainment? What makes you say that? What do you possible be doing while driving that the infotainment cant deliver to your needs? The only feature you use is the radio and playing music. What is the problem?
@@troytruong8246 Troy I agree with you on that the infotainment system is great on the mazda cx5. The reason why I call it crappy is because so many people and reviewers are constantly saying that the infotainment system on the cx5 is the only low point of the car. For 2021 cx5 has a "better" infotainment system. I purchased a 2020 mazda cx5 gtr and I find the "crappy" infotainment actually very well executed. Simple and easy to control for all basic functions. Best lookings SUV by a mile. Gets away from the blocky/station wagon look. I want a 2022 GT turbo. BTW: quiet is very important to me. On long commutes, loud vehicles are fatiguing. Only the Signature trim has the Navigation data card installed. But all trims have the port in the center arm rest for the Navigation card, which Mazda sells for $450. So, for $450 from Mazda all trims levels can be upgraded to integrated Navigation.
That is correct
I'm looking for significant flaws in this car and just not seeing any. Excellent review guys!
Thanks! Have a fantastic week!
No memory for mirrors
I love the 2021 Mazda cx 5, it’s very nice and great price! I saw the blue Tesla at 21:42
My Lexus GS was stolen and I’ve been looking at crossover SUV’s for my kiddo. I’m test driving one next week. I don’t want a high note but I do want that “luxury” feel inside.
Im loving the new display
It generates 250 hp and 320 lb-ft of torque when premium fuel is used, and 227 hp and 310 lb-ft of torque with regular fuel
I have a 2020 CX-5 Signature. Mazda needs to step-up their remote start program. It should be standard on the upper trims and should be smart-phone driven. Even my 2017 GMC Acadia had that. I live in Wisconsin so remote start is a big deal.
Awesome review. Finally a proper multimedia system.
1. Full auto up/down on windows besides the drivers window
2. Folding down the rear seats with the headrest up. I’m 6ft and I have to either move my seat up or remove my rear seat row headrest every time I fold it down.
Nice 👍 reviews, thinking to get one. Thanks
Glad you liked it!
No wireless charging? They are trying to be luxury I just knew that would be available They need to add pano roofs also.
Still a compelling compact SUV Good review
Drew, do know if the engine in the CX-5 has cylinder deactivation? I think that CD is just another over-engineered "feature" that will go bad and be a costly repair. CD will be a deal-breaker for me.
That black display on top of the dashboard is horrendous. What an eyesore.
Perfect 👌 video review guys
Thanks!
please review mid range mazda cx 5. the car that most people would buy not the highest trim level.
Two things I wish M had done: LED turn signals. Accent LED running daytime (signature trim) instead of full headlight on all the time.
The DRL can be turned off with some trickery or a trip to the dealer. Then the accent running lights can be switched on at the column.
Do the passenger doors open to 90 degrees? This was not covered or shown. Thank you.
Rear cargo area is lacking compared to a Crv. Rear legroom could be better to be honest. Otherwise it is arguably the best overall small suv.
Very fine review - thank you.
Glad you enjoyed!
Good job guys
What does the voice activation system control? Great thorough review as always.
@@leslieschaffer2495 Signature trim gets real wood.
Mazda Zoom ZoomZoomZomm 🤩🤩🤩🤩💓💓💓💓💓
The biggest issue for me were the very uncomfortable seats. I'm 6'3 230 and the bolsters on the seat bottom dig into my legs. After about 10 mins it feels like knives stabbing me.
You need a bigger car...period.
I'd like to see theblack trim outside in piano black, would make the soul red and chrome pop.
I'm so glad the camera quality is improved, but I don't like digital instrument panel.
Cameras don't do it justice, it actually blends in really well. Almost unnoticeable.
You guys are great 👍what's bigger and better crv..or cx 5
Nice Review. I still can't decide which one to choose. Ford Escape or Mazda CX-5. I do like both of them but leaning towards Escape 🤔
Very helpful, thanks!
Has Mazda done away with the fog lamps?
Picking up my CX 5 GT Sport today 😀
Will there be an update for Cx5 owners to get the improved infotainment display and camera modes/quality?
I got the update for Apple CarPlay and Android auto for my 2017 Cx5 however wanted to ask if Mazda will extend any more software/ hardware updates to the previous model year Cx5s.
Mazda hasn't officially announced if they will be able to update the old system to the new one
If you can wait the redesign is just around the corner ... save your money ... this cx5 is starting to look outdated . But interior is still good
Nice videos Guys :)
Do you prefer the turbo CX-5 over the Outback XT?
Also, what are the main differences between the the Reserve and Signature?
We do prefer the CX-5 over the Outback XT because it's going to be a bit quicker and more agile overall. But Outback will have a bit more space if you need it. The Signature basically just adds the extra special luxury touches like Nappa leather, real wood and special finishes
Subaru and lousy CVT trans!
Actually much better then the lexus nx I traded in for this grand touring reserve has an easier infotainment control.
@@troytruong8246 Actually Troy in between listening to the radio I launch spaceships from my infotainment system.
Best lookings SUV by a mile. Gets away from the blocky/station wagon look. I want a 2022 GT turbo. BTW: quiet is very important to me. On long commutes, loud vehicles are fatiguing. I hate having to crank the radio to hear it over the noise. In the CX-5, the bose premium system sounds great, and it's not competing with road noise.
Good job guys! Now, I KNOW you’re going to be the first ones to do Mazda3 Turbo review :) don’t let me down :)
Let's hope so! 😁
Why doesn't the UK CX 5 Sport have a turbocharger like the ones in the USA?
