The average modern size room seems to take roughly 3 minutes from ignition to flashover, which means if you haven't found the source of the fire within 2 minutes of your smoke detector going off it's already too late.
that is terrifying .. to think that something we do every day .. plug in our phone, and then maybe go take a shower or head into another room could cost us our entire house :(
Thomas Guillot. It was because the charger plastic cover was ripped apart exposing cables. Lesson learned. Do not be a complete cheapskate and just buy a new charger so you won’t burn your own house
I just have to ask: who's stupid enough to charge their phone with a frayed cord and set it on their bed with sheets and comforters?! What would make someone think that's a good idea?
Roosevelt Scaggs III That's true, but, they can ask a friend if they have one they don't use or need anymore. I'd give someone one if that were the case. I've got tons of adaptors and cables!
A bar of soap rubbed on the cable works too, vicks vaporub, or vicks vaporub mixed with pepper *thinly* coated on the cable too, because when you touch it you’re aware you have touched it and go wash your hands - you *can* rub the inside of a whole pepper along the cord however once dry there is no touch reminder and you may transfer the pepper to your eyes or other sensitive areas. Same with the soap, however soap is a hell of a lot easier to wash out and less damaging on the eyes. 👍
Always be cautious when using a space heater. Put the space heater 3 feet away from anything that could catch on fire and never plug space heater into a extension cord or a power strip because it uses a ton of power.
The fire started at a damaged section of the cable on the bed. There must a been a slow smouldering stage in the vicinity of the cable where the damaged section is. As for phones charging on the bed, the bedding will act as an insulatant causing the phone to heat up and go into thermal runaway. The end of the cable where it plugs into the phone is an area where a fire could start due to fatigue on the cable strands causing them to heat up. It’s better to charge phones on a hard surface where the surface acts as a heat sink absorbing the heat from the charging up process.
Anyone with common sense would know not to use a frayed cord. It's just a fire waiting to happen! Unfortunately, common sense isn't that common these days. Replace your charger if it's frayed or damaged in any other way. They're not expensive and it could save your home and your life!
never ever plug alot of things into an extension cord.they all have a power limit.1 or 2 things is acceptable.and always make sure you check your cords to make sure they have no slits in them as the cord with the phone plugged into it did.
Polyester. A synthetic material that is similar to plastic in the way it burns. Most furniture is made from synthetic materials, making flashover a lot faster than it was in the fifties.
@@animasternorris6508 Many products we have in our homes are made from hydrocarbons, which means much of the stuff inside modern homes is not much different from oil in its ability to burn.
This ranks alongside the speed of fire psa where a real stadium was destroyed in less than 5 minutes while a soccer game was being played. Get smoke alarms!
Поврежденный шнур, причина пожара. Ноутбук тожеинельзя класть на мягкую поверхность. Нужна венттляция. А еще в магазинах продаются специальные подставки для ноутбков, с охлаждением. Удобно.
Correct. With a fully enclosed room the engulfment/flash would have occurred FAR sooner. These videos are made to show why you have two and a half minutes MAXIMUM to get out.
Oxygen would be used up more in a four sided room than a room with three walls (open sided) which in theory would delay the development of a fire. I think the fire triangle in this situation ( oxygen, heat and fuel) would not be in the right proportions. There will be a lot of heat and fuel but not enough oxygen. Should a window break or a door opens, a rush of oxygen would feed the fire quickly ( completing the fire triangle) because all the heat and gasses are present. That’s how back draughts occur.
Hi, My name is Kai Xiao and I am a student researching fire detection based on object detection algorithms. Specifically, I am working on a project that involves detecting fires from video footage. To train my model, I need a large amount of fire data. May I have your permission to use your videos as part of my training data? Thank you very much! Best regards, Kai Xiao
This shows you how extremely dangerous our homes are. In less than 3 minutes the entire room was engulfed. A human in there even even if he got out right away would not survive. He would have 3rd degree burns all over his body and he would be in unbearable agony for hours before he would die. Almost everything in our home is flammable, we live in virtual tinder boxes. We really need to start building and filling our homes with less flammable stuff. The problem is, once people are in the habit of doing something it is very hard to get them to change.
Considering how quickly it caught fire, and spread, not likely. The demonstration was to show how quickly a fire can spread. Imagine going to take a five minute shower. That's all it could take before your room is engulfed.

Yeah but it's different when it's on a bed if it's on a table then it's safe
I keep my phone plugged in on top of my table next to by bed and there are so many plugs plugged in on to that long plug cord.
From reading the comments, it seems videos like this do the trick. They certainly makes people realise the dangers of fire.
Everything Mechanical jar.
when the flashover started it scared me so much I almost fell of my chair
It's the LOUDNESS of the ROAR of the fire that gets you ain't it? Very aggressive.
thrasher1889 yeah is it, but this video did teach me a lesson to never charge a phone using a broken charger when it's on your bed.
Me: how to stop fire?
hmm
Minecraft: set fire spreads options off
me: ok
RIP beautiful bedroom
I agree so I give the video a down thumb 😭
I hate it when they put cute toys in these demonstrations.
That 2 teddy bears almost give me a heart attack
Always make sure that there are no exposed wires cause it will cause a fire
Agreed
DON'T TRY THIS AT HOME!
NEVER CHARGE YOUR PHONE WITH A EXPOSED WIRE!
Never charge your phone on your bed
DO NOT CHARGE A PHONE USING A BROKEN CORD WHILE IT'S PLUGGED INTO THE PHONE, IT WILL CAUSE FIRE

I just have to ask: who's stupid enough to charge their phone with a frayed cord and set it on their bed with sheets and comforters?! What would make someone think that's a good idea?
Well I don’t know why they’d put it on a bed, but some people just refuse to buy new cables or don’t have the money
Roosevelt Scaggs III That's true, but, they can ask a friend if they have one they don't use or need anymore. I'd give someone one if that were the case. I've got tons of adaptors and cables!
You'd be surprised.
TotallyNotSomeWeirdo It's best to just buy a new cord.
I know right!!
You,or the whole room could instantly die in seconds!!
Not to mention the whole room burning to a crisp!!
Where will you sleep now?
That's why I smeared my phone charger cable with pepper to stop my cat from chewing on it. That's how bad cables end.
That is one of the reasons why I hate cats, not only are they mean and selfish but they chew everything.

After watching this, I ran around the house and turned most of the plugs off.

Yes but the problem is that these charger cords break every few months cuse there all cheap samsung crap. That's why I went with wireless charging.

That will never do that in my room.

I cannot believe a phone charging cord can do this. That is crazy.
What was that bed sheets made of? It's disturbing the way it burns.

Just a heads up that the first thing you should be doing when your car gets to 😢
It looks like this room has a completely open front, allowing unlimited oxygen to enter.
It's a demonstration. If it was closed, it actually be worse, because the smoke won't have a place to vent to.
Correct. With a fully enclosed room the engulfment/flash would have occurred FAR sooner. These videos are made to show why you have two and a half minutes MAXIMUM to get out.
Demonstrating how easily a fire could start
The phone is a htc
