  • Introduction to short corner kicks for youth soccer players. Short corner kicks are a great alternative to the traditional (long) corner kicks, because it guarantees possession while giving teams a opportunity to attack the goal from better angles and distances. A short corner kick also allows teams to play the ball more to feet, which can be useful for young teams that are either not allowed or discouraged from heading the ball to minimize the risk of concussions.

This is great and I'm a giant fan and I use these with my junior teams. One little thing, though... I have had referees stop the play (but just give a warning so far) if the 2nd player isn't on the field for the kick - or even once when he was off the field until just beforehand.) That's the rule of course, but also a stickler of a ref for U12. I noticed your stick kid is slightly off the field.

Great observation - and sorry about the confusion! You are correct, the second player should stay on the field to receive the first pass. In the video, I originally had the second player standing just inside the field of play, but his head was blocking the view of the ball so I moved the player off the field to provide a better view of the first pass. Thanks for sharing and good luck this season!
